Thracian Tomb of Sveshtari

I knew about the place in advance, but it was a nice surprise to find everything very well organised and carefully maintained - from the shop to the information centre to the clean rest room! The actual visit to the tomb, led by a highly professional guide, was an unforgettable experience! I would recommend the place to everybody interested in history and archaeology and ancient civilisations. Even without this specific interests the Tomb modern exposition would turn you into an adventurer and explorer of the ancient history of the Bulgarian lands! The design of the museum complex was on par with the recognition UNESCO gave to the discovery by including it into the list of world heritage sites.

If there is one site to visit in Bulgaria, this is it! Absolutely unique monument of the ancient Thracian culture, that has no parallels all across Europe. Modern visitors center offering lots of information about the place in both Bulgarian and English. Note that they accept only cash payments for the entrance fee.

Truly a breathtaking site. my one complaint, as with the rest of Bulgaria - why no pictures allowed? what are Bulgarians so afraid of? can you please let me take my pictures for when I get dementia in peace?

This place blew me away! Got a private English tour and the lady was lovely and knowledgeable. Everything is in great condition- and to walk into and around such a grave/tomb- it was a bit surreal. Never expected such a gem in the middle of nowhere and in a country that normally doesn’t take too much care of its historical assets.

Very interesting place that i visited. It was really old an very well preserved. It is Beautiful Tomb and the restoration takes more than 30 years if I am right. Intetionaly I am not posting photos from the inside. So I recommend you visit it an enjoy the ride 😇✌️🙂

You can get there easily with a car, there is a free parking lot. The ticket price is totally worth it, there are group and family discounts. There is also a gift shop and WC. The story behind this tomb is very interesting and old, but I won't spoil it for you, because there is always a guide who explains everything you need to know in English or Bulgarian. Average time to see all is around an hour or so. Keep in mind that in order to enter the big thomb your group must not exceed 12 people (kids included) - that's in terms of preservation.

Drove about 1h30min from Ruse as Google Map said the place is open till 430pm on Wednesday (29 Nov 23) but was told by the guard that this place is closed till March next year. So we are only allowed to walk around the compound and not able to visit inside the tomb :(

Interesting. This is the closest you can get, to experience the feeling of being in a tomb. Well preserved and arranged. Engaging tour-guide, answering visitor's questions. Nice walk around the park, with scenery view of the surroundings. There were on-going excavations on the side, which were interesting for the kids, to see the process.
