Ubud is home to many beautiful boutiques, but Threads of Life stands out as more than just a standard gallery. They go above and beyond to promote and support traditional Indonesian textiles and natural dye production—an important and often underserved area.
As a big fan of their work, I can personally attest to the craftsmanship and authenticity of the pieces offered at Threads of Life. It's worth noting that each purchase is truly one-of-a-kind, resulting from years of relationship-building with indigenous communities across Indonesia. This approach has provided stable income for these artisans, allowing them to continue weaving and pass their wisdom to future generations.
Even better, Threads of Life offers wonderful hands-on classes at their Dye Studio in Petulu. Set amidst nature, their open studio and half-day batik classes are my personal favorites!
I'd like to extend a big thank you to Ibu Tutut and Meri for their incredible service. They took the time to explain each beautiful textile and patiently answered all of my questions.
If you're interested in Indonesian textiles and supporting sustainable craftsmanship, Threads of Life is definitely worth a visit during your time in Ubud!
