The best ski resorts in Australia - SilverKris

"About a 2.5-hour drive from Canberra, this much-loved local resort features Australia’s five longest runs and the country’s highest vertical drop, plus the highest ski lift Down Under that carries skiers up to 2,037 m — ideal for piste runs or accessing backcountry terrain. The village has a busy events calendar ranging from family nights to big parties, and recreational facilities at the leisure centre include a bouldering wall, a heated pool and an inflatable obstacle course. Adult day lift passes start from AU$179." - SilverKris

Thredbo is undoubtedly a beautiful place to stay, regardless of when throughout the year! The atmosphere is amazing and the people are super nice and welcoming. During the winter, Thredbo offers breathtaking snowy scenery. Summer offers slightly warmer weather that also has the same benefits. Definitely come here at least once in your life.

Went there during the new year. Kids loved the Alpine coaster rides and our walk to Mt. Kosciuszko. Plenty of walks to explore just come prepared. Restrooms are always clean, staff at service desk were friendly and their was a free shuttle bus to the main center from the car park, how good is that!

Amazing experience taking the chair lift and then hiking to the top of the tallest mountain jn Australia! The views were just spectacular and the chair lift is an amazing experience! The mountain bike trails are just awesome and loved the free eco wash bay to clean your bike at the end of the day. Can't wait to come again in winter!

Whether you come for the world-class winter slopes or the stunning summer hikes, Thredbo consistently delivers an alpine experience like no other in Australia. The village buzzes with a warm, friendly energy, the facilities are top-notch, and the backdrop of the Snowy Mountains is simply breathtaking.

I spent a June long weekend at Thredbo Alpine Resort and came away super impressed — it really lives up to its reputation as one of Australia’s best all-round ski destinations. Thredbo offers terrain for everyone. Beginners have their own safe space at Friday Flat, with gentle slopes and easy lifts to practice without stress. Intermediates have loads to explore, and if you’re more advanced there are steep runs, long descents (the Supertrail is one of Australia’s longest) and varied terrain including terrain parks of all difficulties. The village is charming and very walkable. There are plenty of accommodation options — from rustic lodges and self-contained apartments to premium hotels — many with excellent proximity to lifts and village amenities. Dining is strong too. On-mountain cafés like Merritts Mountain House bring views and flavour; for après you’ve got ski-in options like Kareela Hutte, hearty pubs, and bars in the Village. Things to watch: in peak times, lift queues can add up, and prices (accommodation, food, lift passes) tend to run high. Also, booking ahead (especially for winter and school holidays) is important. All up, Thredbo strikes a great balance — superb snow terrain, lively village atmosphere, and plenty of options for both families and expert riders. Definitely worth the trip if you want more than just slopes.

I think its ok for newbies to come. The location quite easy to get to and the section is nicely divided. Do their lesson there, most of the instructors are quite good. Can hire most of the equipments there. Got to pay for the card pass. Food overpriced so BYO if you want to avoid over paying.

We stayed for 2 days We went up the mountain on the Suger gums chair lift. It was bitting cold due to the wind. Our accommodation was good. We had dinner in the pub. Everyone was helpful and friendly. Totally recommend a stay. It was very quiet when we were there as it was between winter and summer seasons.

It was still snowing when I visited in October, which made the trip even more special. The town has a local, homey feel with plenty of restaurants and a cosy pub, and the quieter atmosphere was perfect. Snowboarding was so much fun, and Riccardo, the instructor, was great and really easy to get along with. The free shuttle bus runs regularly to take you around town, and when we left late one evening, a driver kindly radioed another shuttle on our route to pick us up. The staff were super friendly and the service was excellent.
