6 Great Places to Visit in Australia Right Now - AFAR

"The Farm is a working farm/idyll on a hill about 10 minutes from the surf break. Here you can easily come for dinner at Three Blue Ducks—a now-iconic restaurant that put hyper-local Australian cuisine on the map." - Laura Dannen Redman

The food was absolutely delicious, with very little to fault — every dish was truly outstanding. We had the Moreton Bay bug, the eye fillet, and roasted pumpkin, and each one was exceptional. For dessert, we finished with a banana caramel white chocolate panna cotta with macadamia, and a mango sorbet with passionfruit and sea salt meringue — completely next level. The service was a little laid back but everyone was very friendly and polite

The set menu is definitely the best way to try, taste and experience all the flavours. We ordered extra oysters and scallops which were amazing too. With live band, fresh organic produce being cooked to perfection, and the side store selling a range of local sustainably sourced goods, it was an amazing day. The yummy gelato was the perfect way to finish the day!

Didn’t book still got a table outside. Relaxing great family place plenty of room for the kids to roam and we could bring our dog which was great. Unfortunately they made massive mistakes with our food. Some of our meals took over an hour and had to be reordered. A male manager with a British accent was very curt with us about this. We were refunded some of the meals but they didn’t refund to the correct people in our group ( we were paying separately). By the time we got our meals it was more than an 1.5 hours. We had to chase the staff on at least 3 occasions.

I had a late lunch on Father's Day with my mum for her 93rd birthday. Food was great, except the sauce on my steak was cold, flavours well matched. Apart from this and wine by bottle, is actually a carafe of tap wine. Sorry, not classy. Very touristy, but that's what it is, in Byron. Very relaxed setting and staff made this review as they were eager to please and a great professional service 🙄. Went back for brunch on Monday, BLT and Portuguese tart were delicious with a good coffee! Thank you xx

A visit to Three Blue Ducks Byron Bay feels like stepping into a warm country farmhouse surrounded by rolling fields and friendly farm animals. By day we had brunch and by night we sipped on a perfectly balanced Charlie Chaplin cocktail before diving into a lovely spread - from local sourdough with chicken skin butter & smoked salt to polenta gnocchi, 12-hour slow-cooked brisket, and Moreton Bay bugs. The charcoal chicken was smoky and tender, while sides of skin-on chips and macaroni with butter kept even the little one happy. The lovely dishes, and the rustic setting with its own café & bakery to explore by day.

Food was good and fresh but not something i would be bragging about or rushing to come back for more. The bloody marys were nice but not the greatest. Service was nice but inconsistent which was a ket down as it wasnt super busy.

I had made an early reservation for 6 adults and 4 children. Unfortunately, it took nearly an hour from ordering to receiving the main courses. The kids’ meals and appetizers were finished long before the adult meals arrived. We ordered the $12 special, which included two slices of garlic bread. It was delicious, with a rich aroma and crispy texture. However, the crispy pork belly was difficult to chew, with most of it being very fatty and a small amount of tough lean meat. The sauerkraut didn’t help balance the richness of the dish. The braised beef of the day was disappointing, as the meat wasn’t tender at all. It didn’t compare to the soft and melt-in-your-mouth texture I’ve experienced in the past. The eye fillet was overcooked on the outside, although it remained pink on the inside. On the positive side, the oysters were very fresh, and the garden salad was mostly good, but the kale was too tough and hard to chew. The Moreton Bay bug was excellent — full of umami with a perfectly balanced salty-savory flavour, and the accompanying sides were also fresh and tasty. As always, the coffee and bakery items were excellent. Despite these issues, we continue to love Three Blue Ducks and return every year with our family, bringing the kids to play with the animals. It’s a wonderful experience overall.

Loved our lunch experience at this venue High quality ingredients and meal was excellent. Scallops and Morton bay bugs were our choice. So full no room for dessert. Great relaxed vibe and excellent service.

Yelp
Our tour driver stopped by TBD on the way to Byron Bay, and we were glad he did. They offer a number of baked items, inc their sig Portuguese tart. In addition, they have a sit down restaurant. I saw a porchetta on a rotisserie above an open fire in the back. The staff is super nice, and their baristas make a mean flat white or long black. In addition to the tart, we had a beef pie and bacon quiche. I forgot the individual cost of each item. However, the total was $50 AUD inc the coffees. The tart was massive, and it tasted so good. The custard was nice & creamy and that crust. Likewise, the quiche and pie had nice crusts, and were full of fillings. No lack of meat here. Regarding the ambiance, its open air and you can order casual or sit down. There were a lot of people mid-morning on a Sun. TBD was a very pleasant way to have a first meal of the day. The tart is a must!

Yelp
If you are lucky enough to be here on Sunday evening check into their Sunday roast. Meal, entertainment, atmosphere hits all the marks at this restaurant. Such a cool concept. Enjoyable place for family or dates. You MUST go here if you are vegetarian or care about healthier meals. Loved it.

Yelp
If I could give them more stars I would. Recommended by staff at Elements of Byron we went on a Sunday night. They said they had roast and being a veggie I thought I wouldn't be able to eat anything. They said they had a veggie roast and it was the best thing I've ever eaten. Starting with a broccoli dish so spectacular. Roasted pumpkin with roast carrots, potato , bokchoy with Yorkshire pud! I added cheesy cauliflower. How I had room for dessert I don't know but that was amazing. Just great staff, incredible chefs!! Excellent wine list and drinks. We loved it so much we came back for lunch a few days later. Do not miss this if visiting

Yelp
We were surprised when we arrived at 8pm to find the place was much quieter for dinner compared to the buzziness of lunchtime. However we like that not everyone is talking at the top of their voice at dinner and we could actually hear our own conversation. The food here is fantastic and so worth to make the trip for. However , $21 for the sashimi entree was definitely too rich! It tasted superb with avocado cream, the toasted black sesame seed added a wonderful layer of cruchiness to the taste, but all I got was five thinly sliced kingfish sashimi. That's too stingy. My partner loved his oysters. $4.50 each for half a dozen and comes with finger lime dipping. I had one and it was superbly fresh! The mains were more reasonable in portion size. The pork $36 was just slightly over cooked and not as tender as it should be but the flavours are spot on, a pleasant surprise that it also comes with very crispy skin which wasn't mentioned on the menu. The lamb from the southern tableland $37 won the prize for best dish of the night. It was super tender and perfectly pink. It has the best flavours of any lamb we have tasted recently. All the accompanying char veggies on the two dishes tasted sublime. The dessert of burnt honey ice cream was fantastic. Beside this and the cheesplate, the only other choice for dessert was tiramisu. This might be everyone's favourite but we thought it was too obvious a choice for this restaurant. Tiramisu seems to appear on every restaurant's menu, it is not an interesting option for us. The waiters are friendly but not very attentive. As our mains were served, we were well into the last drop of our first glass of wine. We wanted to order the second glass to go with our mains. But all the waiters were busy and we tried and tried to get their attention to no avail. By the time we finally caught one of them and ordered we were already finishing our mains. And the wines took a long time to be delivered. By the time we got it we had long finished our mains! After the dessert, we ordered another cup of coffee. By this time, which was around 9.30pm most of the other diners have left. All the waiters were busy cleaning up. The coffee was never delivered. Hence we were very disappointed with the quality of their service at the end of our meal. So we rate the food 4/5. For service 2/5.

Yelp
Wow...so this is what fresh food really tastes like! Pricey, but portions are generous. Everything is made fresh and sourced locally. Even the milk in our coffee was organic and the juice freshly squeezed. Enjoyed our breakfast surrounded by lush farmland and a couple of chooks circling our table... your can't really get a more authentic farmhouse brekkie than that! Three Blue Ducks a must try when in Byron Bay!

Yelp
This is a lovely restaurant with room to walk around they do tours and have a small dessert truck next to the park the experience is excellent there are so many animals, plants and trees the food is wonderful they have a cafe and the main restaurant in the restaurant there is wonderful lighting and even better food my only complaint is that it's right next to one of the main roads so you can hear it all. Other than I love this place and would totally recommend it.

Yelp
I loved this place in theory, but in execution I thought it could be better. Three Blue Ducks is an extremely versatile place. It has a sit-down restaurant, a bakery, a cafe, a gelato stand, a street-style food vendor cart, an extensive bar, a playground for kids, animals, and lots of outdoor space. You can really make of it what you want - come for a fancy meal or bring your kids and get some ice cream, play on the swings and check out the animals. I love the idea of this place. When my friends and I arrived, we attempted to get a table for lunch. It was a Sunday and was very busy. We were told that it would take about 30-45 minutes, and we put our name on the list. In the meantime, we got drinks (coffee for some of us, Bloody Marys for others, both of which were delicious). After 45 minutes or so, we started to get tired of waiting. Upon review of the menu, we realised that it was pricey (average main was mid-$30s) and seemed like light fare (although I cannot confirm). Given the other options, we decided to buy food from the street-style stand. They were grilling various items, including a pork burger and grilled peppers, which I ordered. The peppers were delicious (some were spicy, some were not). The pork burger was so-so. In the end, while I liked the atmosphere of the place a lot, I was slightly upset that the restaurant wait was so long and the food from the grill mostly average. If you go, you must have a car. It is a short drive (but not walkable) outside of Byron Bay.

Yelp
Stop here on the way to the Gold Coast from Sydney. 20 mins from Byron Bay lighthouse. This place serves fresh farm to table food and offers wine and beer. When you have been driving with kids under 5 years old, it helps that they have a playground, farm with chickens, horses, pigs and lots of grassy area where they can run around for a bit before we had to drive again. We ordered the mussels and pork belly and were happy with the dishes. Kids had pasta with cheese. I would highly recommend stopping here. Prices are a little high but quality of the food is worth it.

Yelp
Super expensive, nice ginger beer, lamb was good, scallops average, $15 for 4 small slices of bread, we went online the day before and were advised to make a booking via resi.com and who stated they would text us with a booking time next day. What actually happened was we heard nothing, called the restuarant and they told us we don't need a booking we could just turn up and they could fit us in, even though we told them we were a party of 6. We arrived shortly after and were told we had to wait at least 1hr .. Ordered the farm greens and it was bokchoi stems, white cabbage and Chilli, no actual greens. Checkout was super difficult. We asked for the cheque waiting 15 minutes nothing came. We went to front of the restaurant and got the bill and had one question on the bill and the waiter disappeared telling us 'we'd need to talk to a manager'.. We stood there waiting to pay and the barista finally acknowledged us and said we had to go to the main checkout outside. We went there and then our waiter appeared and told us we had to go back inside to the checkout near the coffee shop. Then she walked away and we waited another 10 mins. We stopped an Irish waiter and told him we were just trying to pay and split the bill 50/50..kept getting bounced back and forth. He apologized and processed in 2 minutes..don't go..the experience isn't worth the price tag..poor service, doesn't compensate for a great lamb dish or a ginger beer..

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere and beautiful food, so creative too! We arrived at a super busy time for lunch but were put on the wait list and sat to wait comfortably. We were called within 10min which was great. Food was really good and you can just tell how fresh it is. I ordered the pate which was an entree but just what I needed. The smoothies are delicious (all without sugar, and raw beautiful ingredients). I love that they farm everything and it's all sustainable. Makes a big difference when making a choice on where to eat and prices are about the same as anywhere else. On the weekend they have live music which is so good! Lots of kids around as it's a family place :)

Yelp
Went here on consecutive days for breakfast and lunch. $21 USD for avocado toast (with chorizo, egg, and feta, granted) is a bit precious, but consider the ingredients all come from the farm, and you get some free post-meal entertainment in the form of the chickens and pigs just across the grass from the restaurant. And that toast itself is damn good, as are all the baked goods, with real croissants to rival just about anywhere. Lunch featured a lot of interesting choices, like ceviche with buttermilk, cucumber, and crispy buckwheat, or marlin with charred eggplant purée, corn, chickpeas and tomatoes. Restaurants like these are always in danger of adding one too many components to their dishes, but everything made total sense. Looking forward to stopping for coffee and pastries on the way back to Gold Coast Airport.

Yelp
A sensational place to visit. With a sustainable, ethical and organic vision this place is what food is all about. The food is A1, yet dining there has that 'flying under the radar' feel. It has MUCH more on offer other than a fantastic menu (changes seasonally) such as farm tours, fresh fruit & veg., a bakery, licensed bar and a providore with spreads, jams, sauces, cook books etc etc. It is no doubt the best place to take the kids. It has a playground, lawns/paddocks, animals and more.

Yelp
Loved the ambiance- food of course - but the coffee notes and the bread and butter pudding were the best! A definite stop over and close to Byron Bay

Yelp
This place is great, much of food grown on premises. Great serving sizes, wonderful atmosphere with semi outdoor area.

Yelp
Three Blue Ducks at the farm Byron Bay produces amazing food in a wonderfully relaxed, social, and rural setting. I'd highly recommend anyone pasig through or staying nearby stop in for either a quick bite or an long afternoon or evening session. You couldn't find a better restaurant nearby to have a large social gathering that is kid friendly as well. I had a pressed lamb, it was simply amazing! Massive selection of on tap beer and wine backed up with excellent coffee. The kids have a play area close by, but not too close by to keep them busy.

Yelp
So we went for lunch, which you can't book for - the queue was about a 30min wait - but boys was the food worth it. The sourdough was out of this world and the homemade butter was soooo smooth. We had 2 main dishes - the fish wings which had an Asian twist with grapefruit and the lamb curry, the meat melted in your mouth. We complemented the meal with the Farm Salad all locally grown produce. To ensure the meal was eased into our stomachs we covered it with a lovely Pino Grigio - crisp and delicious - never drinking Sav Blanc again! If you can put up with queues then this is a must - oh and buy your sourdough load before they sell out.

Yelp
Decor and design would lead you to believe this is a very special cafe, but for all its fresh produce and fancy farm cred, it's pretty average. The smoked salmon plate was relatively well played and white flavoursome, but not more so than usual. Service was a little curt, but the vibes and seating was positive, and they did have quite a few options on the menu. A serviceable experience.

Yelp
Fantastic location. Great place to pop out of Byron for a few drinks and dinner. There's is a fantastic outdoor bar with plenty of really good beers on tap. The outdoor bar area is top notch for a few sunset beers. For dinner in the restaurant, the fish curry and the side of vegetables are outstanding. The other dishes my friends had looked really good too. There's also a great playground for the kids if you are with family. Friendly staff, great night all round. Recommended, would definitely go again.

Kerrie H.

Yelp
Wow, no disappointments here. A few friends and I rode bikes from town to sample some of the local produce. The farm salad and mushroom dish together with crusty sourdough bread and creamy butter went down a treat. I had a delicious pot of milky Chai and the local cider and green juice were also amazing. Can't wait to return to sample the rest of the menu!

Yelp
Yep, I can highly recommend this place. A lovely open and outdoor setting for a Sunday lunch with family and friends. The food was exquisite and well presented, and the service was timely without being overbearing. A good selection of drinks to quench your thirst and round off a most enjoyable experience.

Yelp
Great lunch. The food was exceptional. All locally sourced and tasted delicious. Favourite was the packed lamb and the halloumi salad. Apart from the food the atmosphere is great!
