Pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. The sashimi was fresh and the slices were thick. The seafood had a sweetness to it. Sukiyaki with udon was also really good; the soup base was a little too sweet but the there was generous amount of meat. Perfect on a cold day. The grilled skewers were delicious as well. Pear sake was overly sweet though and masked the sake.

Cozy little place. A little hidden gem. Food was great with friendly service too. Will come back when we visit Horbart again. Hopefully in warmer weather as the outdoor space looks nice too.

Beautiful Japanese restaurant in a quaint neighborhood. Food was fresh, delicious and unpretentious. Karage squid came with this delicious wasabi mayo and the sashimi was great.

Especially loved the sesame ice cream & almond tart. The waitress was very friendly and welcoming.

The most beautiful little spot, the atmosphere was so lovely and quaint. Service was amazing received food within 20 minutes of ordering, waitor and waitress were super friendly and patient. Best udon I've had and reasonably priced for the portion!! Very generous on the meat too, enoki mushrooms would have been great with it. Seemed to get quite busy so make sure to book a table. Will definitely be comming back!

Looking for Japanese cuisine in Hobart can be a challenge. Three Japanese has a reasonable menu (albeit no sushi) and for a small venue, it’s quite quaint and decor similar to create a Japanese ambiance in a suburban area. The sashimi seemed to have been refrigerated to a point of semi-frozen; the taste of ice in the salmon a bit of a giveaway. The food was pleasant, but somewhat ‘bland’ in taste. Wait staff would also do well to ensure one of the first things they say to customers is not “we need you to be finished at 7:30, is that ok?” Truly, that all depends on whether the kitchen staff are able to get the orders completed.

We cooked our own Sukiyaki Hot pot with Waygu steak — its tricky but fun & delicious, lots of starters wines beers Saki. Friendly vibe & fast service. Reasonable prices, we booked early and got good seat inside! Popular!

So disappointed I feel obligated to post my first review. Extremely disappointed in the portion size of this. See the three pictures below, the one with the spoon is what was delivered to me. Compare that with the other two examples, one from a year ago and the other is their picture from the Uber Eats app. I received barely any Eel, though the taste was acceptable, there was hardly any to enjoy. Definitely would not recommend this dish if you want eel as you're paying more for the rice than eel.

Yelp
READ REVIEWS BEFORE YOU EAT HERE READ tripadvisor REVIEWS BEFORE YOU EAT HERE. Most of the staff seemed very nice but it was crazy expensive, very small portions and when we left I was still hungry... that has never happened to me before. The exterior needs some work, so does the timing of the food (This seems to be a theme in the reviews so it goes to show, they are not listening to the public)... bring it all out at once or we are left waiting for the last plate... these are basics of food service. The main course was the size of an appetizer. I can't believe that after 2 months I still remember this as the worst /expensive experience we had in Australia. Again, most the staff seemed very friendly but....

Yelp
What a lovely place. I've been meaning to come here basically since they moved from the CBD into the old Environs building and it took me way too long. I finally got my opportunity a couple of weeks ago when some girls from work and I decided to catch up somewhere nice we hadn't been before... and 3J was on everyone's list! I love, love, love a place that has a "feed me" option, and 3J does that for around $65 a head. A multitude of delicious and interesting courses all served in excellent time, and catering for a vegetarian in our midst, to boot. The space itself is a bit strange, and has always been a bit strange, but I'm happy the restaurant now exists here and I look forward to another visit to hopefully try their breakfast menu next time!

Yelp
A quirky little restaurant. Was packed and understandable as the food was amazing probably the best Japanese food I've had outside of Japan. Make sure you try the dengaku (miso grilled eggplant)

Yelp
WARNING, WARNING, WARNING! This place was sold two months ago to three youngsters without a clue about Japanese cooking. Friendly service but understaffed so you will have to wait long for any attention. Food was very average, sake tasting is a real rip-off, ribs consisting of bones and tendons were sold as "charcoal grilled beef".

Yelp
Delicious food, warm environment and friendly staff. Really reasonably priced. We missed it on the set menu so did a couple of dishes to share. The tea options are delicious too, not just your basic oolong option! When you walk in the door, you go into the kitchen area which is a bit weird- but also really funky as you see all the action before sitting down.

Yelp
After a few mediocre meals at more expensive CBD located restaurants (e.g., looked kind of cute, tasted like cold, stale rolls), walking into this straightforward, warm and family owned place was a breath of fresh air. We went for the banquet dinner ($65) and were asked about our food preferences--we asked for whatever was most fresh and said we enjoyed seafood. What followed were 7 wonderful courses of pickles, calamari, soup and onigiri, eggplant, chicken, kingfish and a delicious green tea dessert. The portions were perfect and while I'm sure the courses vary day by day, I'm certain that given the owners intentions, thoughtfulness and care for their customers, it would mean more consistently executed and delicious food. Can't recommend this place enough.

Yelp
We had a great meal there . My daughter is gluten intolerant but there were so many GF dishes that were available, it was awesome ! Would have given 5 star if it had not been a large party group making a racket while we were there ! The waitress was very friendly and obliging .
