Hello Again

Google
this is the best place to get cassettes in the entire bay area. I have been to 9 other shops in the past 2 weeks. thrillhouse has such good deals and such an insane selection. I almost didn't want to write a review, just because I didn't want others picking their shelves before I could again!! I had to, though. this place is amazing and charges $10 for new releases, then $2-8 for old classics and well known albums. they have an indie section that teaches you about local stuff and staff that seems super knowledgeable. the people I've chatted with here, customers and clerks alike, all had a great vibe. seriously, even the places in oakland and hayward were more expensive and bare

Found some great punk albums at this little store. Nice selection of musical taste.

Visited today, wish I could've bought a stack of records but am flying out of the US and don't have the luggage space. BUT I will definitely recommend this awesome store to others. Amazing punk selection, solid alt rock, uncommonly fair prices and the dude working there was the nicest guy. Love from 🇦🇺

Google
Just close the online shop if nobody runs it. I tried to get a gift card, paid for it, and was never sent anything. I tried emailing three times. Tried calling any number I could find, but all were disconnected. Reached out via Facebook and they literally left me on READ, real slap in the face. Did a chargeback. The store looks cool and I'd like to visit it when I'm over there, but c'mon, why have the online shop if you're just taking money and ingoring the orders.

Amazing selection and very fair pricing. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Thrillhouse Records is a must visit if you're in the area and a fan of records! My fiancé and I were in the area after having brunch and not in a hurry to leave San Francisco just yet.. I looked around the neighborhood on maps and found out this place existed. My fiancé is a big fan of vinyl records and is always looking to add to his collection so I figured this would be a good place to bring him.. and it was. Parking is all along the streets and you can probably get away with parking at the Safeway nearby if you're quick about it. The inside is fantastic - I've been in record stores before where everything is everywhere and not properly labeled, but Thrillhouse has sections labeled to help aid in your search for whatever it is you're looking for and I appreciate it. My fiancé bought two records and he's a happy camper.

Yelp
It's tough being a fan of Heavy metal music when it comes to vinyl, since a lot of places over price their metal records selection. That's not the case here at Thrillhouse records. Great store with a fine selection. Excellent prices and careful vinyl grading so that you always know what you're getting. On my last visit I found a few records from the band; Shadows Fall and since they broke up, their albums have sky-rocketed to the top in price, and bought them before they go out of print. Hardly any records stores these days sell metal music on vinyl and if they do it's rare, I will defientely go back to go through their massive heavy metal record selection when I have the time. I bet their will be more hidden gems to be found - thank you!

Um O.

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE it here, I'm here on a monthly basis, if I'm not in the store I'm in the basement or patio. There's always something fun going on here, whether it's a show or arts & crafts night on tuesdays. The service is amazing, there's a MASSIVE selection of music to choose from, and everything is priced so well I just love it so much. The basement has cute lighting which I love for photos I take of shows, I'll be here this Sunday for a Chemical Victim show!!! Excited

Yelp
One of my favorite vinyl record stores in San Francisco. Definitely their specialty is hardcore punk in obscure stuff like Code Of Honor, GISM and the norm like the descendents and Discharge. They also have a decent Metal selection of Bathory, Death and Darkthrone. As well as alternative, Jazz, R&B and classic rock

Yelp
This strip is awesome at Mission St. near Bernal Heights. I had never walked inside this record store and I thought it was so neat. It is a community-run record store with an old-school taste. It's not an indie hipster record store, but it has 90s, punk, industrial, classical, etc. It's got an interesting selection to choose from. They have volunteers working and it's cool.
google avatar

Carina R.

Yelp
*They do not have a working store phone so don't bother calling!* I finally made it to this joint in the Mission. AWESOME record shop. Even has cds and cassettes. Lots of punk, metal, classic rock & 80s. I found mint records of Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio, Slayer, Whitney Houston debut, Rufus and Chaka Kahn, LTD, Vanity! Spent 2 hours going through their bins. They even have $1 stuff. Reasonable prices! Super nice & chill, and vibe is not snotty like Amoeba.

Yelp
When looking for a cool place to live in SF (from NYC), I walked into Thrillhouse, fell in love with the place and took an apartment up the street. I've been here for a bit over 10 years, and still love the community and punk rock awesomeness that Thrillhouse Records continues to serve up. I also met my significant other there. So there's that too. :)

Yelp
once i found out about this record store, it has been my go to ever since! their records are priced reasonably as well as individually packed in protective sleeves! records are sorted out for easy browsing, friendly staff and wide selection for any music lover of any genre! would definitely recommend for anyone in search for a new record store in the city.
google avatar

Drew C.

Yelp
Unique co-op record store worth visiting. Good selection of vinyl. A lot of punk but also a lot of rock and a handful of other genres. Prices are very fair. You can also get some DVDs and VHS tapes if so inclined.

Yelp
This record store in Bernal Heights is pretty rad. Wasn't sure what to expect coming in but they have a pretty nice selection of both new and used vinyl and the pricing is pretty reasonable. Not the biggest store but it's packed pretty nicely in here. There are some hip hop records and some jazz as well but the bulk of the selection is rock, and punk more specifically. I don't listen to a whole lot of punk anymore but I came away impressed with their selection regardless and ended up grabbing a couple lps. Even better, when I was checking out I noticed a Line 6 interface sitting on the counter. It caught my eye because it had XLR inputs and my current interface does not. I asked if it was for sale and he said it was. When I asked how much, he shrugged and then said, "I dunno... 5 bucks?" I thought he was kidding until he asked if I wanted to buy it. To be fair, it was pretty beat up and didn't have any of the cables so I'm not even sure it works, but for $5 I'm willing to gamble. I'm a fan. Friendly staff, good selection of vinyl and a random assortment of used gear. Come through if you're in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Great little spot that keeps SF punk alive

Yelp
This eclectic record store in Bernal Heights has such a wide selection of punk vinyl, while also having a variety of other genres. Huge selection of pins/buttons and the lady behind the counter was so patient when I purchased a bunch.

Yelp
Yo I flippin love this place! Great records great staff got so many awesome records and cds when I was there last. Also went to a few shows in the back a long time ago and it was so fun!

Yelp
Thrillhouse is the BEST record store in San Francisco, and the entire planet! (In my humble opinion). They have a great selection of vinyl and the best prices in town. Lots of cool and local zines! Super rad place to just hang out too. Listen to punk, read a zine, stare at the art, get a handful of buttons from the millions of options, and find out about whatever shows are coming up. I love this place :)
google avatar

P O.

Yelp
This is a great record store for both used and new vinyl. Selection is limited, but the very reasonable prices on used records and the friendly staff make it well worth visiting when on your hunt for records.

Yelp
There are days where I could give two shits about seeing another Gordon Lightfoot or Barbara Streissand record in any thriftstore record bins. There are also days where I could give less than a single shit about flipping through the benign "Rock" or "Indie" section at Rasputin. There are even days when I don't have the patience for the hubbub of Amoeba. Thank goodness there's something for the dying dirtbag in me. Not only does Thrillhouse stock a deep roster of punk, hardcore and garage records, they also have their own label and do the occasional show on the premises. Definitely take a minute to finger through their bins. There's plenty of vinyl and plastic discs to go through. Volunteer run, this place has the a nice enough vibe and they even have a tape deck if you want to make a mix tape at their listening station. Yes. Tapes. Get ahead of it. No, I'm serious.
google avatar

Mat K.

Yelp
Thrillhouse makes me want to quit my job, teach myself three chords, start a shitty band and shout, "Fuck the MAN!" in a microphone. Maybe if I'm lucky I can pick up a dope habit along the way. Unfortunately I sold out a few years back. I hate when that happens. Instead I'll give these rock n roll kids my hard earned cash. And they take it with nary a judgmental comment nor inkling of musical elitism. Zines & Music. Viva Thrillhouse! DIY to the bone!
google avatar

Anthony A.

Yelp
Preface: punk is not my bag. Other than The Misfits, maybe some Ramones, there is nothing to that musical genre that does anything for me. So, with that in mind it should be little surprise that I didn't walk out with anything after a visit here. They had a dearth of metal records, or most any other genre for that matter. This place is almost exclusively for those into punk and its derivatives. I will say that they've got outstanding pricing here. Many of the new albums they carry have a price tag lower than what you'd find at Amoeba or similar stores. Generally, these smaller independent shops are priced a bit higher to cover the fact they aren't making as much as whatever majors are still around, but this place takes the opposite approach and offers great prices as a major incentive to buy. My brother walked out with a stack of records, all bought at very nice prices. Downside (for me): the music playing here is loud (fuck, do I sound old or what?) and it's the kind of chaotic gutter punk that is mostly repeated bar chords and unintelligible shouting. If that isn't your thing, you'll find it as intolerable as I did. Also shitty: there are a couple of chairs outside the front door, and two people decided it would be cool to sit there and smoke. Isn't shopping so much better when cancerous death fumes are infiltrating your every orifice, with no escape in sight other than to leave the building? Have some consideration, shitheads.
google avatar

Yelp
It's small! It's dirty! It's cheap! It's just what San Francisco has been so desperately needing -- a true DIY punk record store! The selection is limited at best, but the prices are so affordable that you're practlcally guaranteed to walk out with at least one or two CDs or LPs or 7" singles and feel like you just robbed a bank. They also carry random zines, cassettes, clothing, and whatever else seems to have fallen into their hands on any given weekend. Oh, and ask about their all-ages punk shows. Just keep it quiet. Shhhh! The cops are always listening.

Yelp
BEST PUNK RECORD STORE IN SF!!! TIED FOR BEST IN THE BAY W/ 1234GO!!! ok, anybody out there remember the awesome epicenter records on valencia at 16th? well it closed way back in the late 90s but thrillhouse is its illegitmate baby and it fuckin rules! thrillhouse has a great collection of current indy punk and hardcore records plus used stuff too. looking for that 7" that made everyones top ten list in MRR? thrillhouse will have it! it isn't big but its stocked with quality hard to find vinyl. plus, like epicenter, its collectively run and hosts killer shows. the basement is the venue for the gigs which end early and aren't super well advertised. the people that work there are friendly and you probably already know if you go to DIY punk gigs. another fuckin awesome bonus is there is a turntable there complete with headphones so you can listen to records before you buy them! that way you can sift thru the shit and find the gold and not blow your hard earned cash on a record that blow. btw, thrillhouse is cash only. plastic isn't punk! fuckin go there now and buy some records! its out on mission past ceasar chavez around cortland. when you're done you can get indian pizza at zante's or pupusas at zocalo or a burrito down at cancun since its in a part of the mission that doesn't suck ass yet! i love this place!
google avatar

Yelp
I really like this store and always find something to walk away with..like a previous reviewer said it reminds me of the old Epicenter.on valencia. Epicenter had a political agenda that his place doesnt and was started by Tim Yohannon. Im not sure who runs this place but I know they are music fanatics Whenever I have gone in the staff have been friendly enough( think there volunteers). Great selection of new and used vinyl. Vintage and new lps singles. Lots of small import and local labels and a great bonus...you can listen to everything anything on a turntable with headphones before buying. if your nostalgic for zines they've got that to. I know they have live shows but i havent had the chance to make it here.Prices are reasonable too...check it out
google avatar

Dee C.

Yelp
Fantastic shop. Totally hidden gem. Great selection of punk and rock. Prices are really fair and service is friendly. There is a vinyl listening station with good headphones. Good selection of cassettes, too.
google avatar

Meghan K.

Yelp
This place rules. Nice, volunteer-based staff, AMAZING priced records, and great selection (if you don't have shitty taste in music). Hours are convenient, I always feel welcome to come in.
google avatar

Jonathan J.

Yelp
One of the best punk record stores I've ever been to. Keyword: "punk". If yr not into such subcultures and scenes, this is not the place you should go. They'll have classic releases, and hidden gems, and all sorts of new pressings of everything I feel I need. Saints, X-Ray Spex, Screamers, Crass, World/Inferno, I could literally go on for hours. What's all the more impressive is that this is entirely volunteer-run. This record store is a labor of love, and cities across the country need more places like this. In fact, Thrillhouse probably shouldn't even have a Yelp! They're not a business, they're a collective. Kudos to them on their wonderful selection, and their sacred mission. Bonus: They also sell some old Genesis, SNES, and NES games. They carry miscellaneous cassette tapes, and this store IS named after Milhouse Van Houten from 'The Simpsons'.
google avatar

Raquel R.

Yelp
So many record stores in the city have everything you would expect. An overstock in Elton John and Neil Diamond in the bargain section, and nothing you really want. Thrillhouse changes everything. Came here once for a show, and flipped out over some of their collection. And so freakin' cheap!
google avatar

Andrew A.

Yelp
A really great, community-oriented punk record store. It's volunteer run, so sometimes the guy at the counter is drunk, but that just increases the mystique. They used to have shows in the basement, but the fire dept. put a swift end to that, so the basement is now entirely devoted to art projects. Fred and Zoe are saints, and will always help you even if you're a retard. Go on Sunday and demand that they make you breakfast!
google avatar

Jim P.

Yelp
Great independent record store in SF. They specialize in Punk, Hardcore, and Metal, but don't limit the selection to just that. There's also a large selection of rock, soundtracks, etc. Always a fun place to go digging at!
google avatar

Ben H.

Yelp
For local and west coast punk and 80s post punk, as well as fun random records and tapes...go here. This place is populated by cool people with funny names and mustaches. There's a secret in the basement that you can enjoy in the afternoons sometimes. Records are really cheap here, too. I got a Sonic Youth original self titled for under $10. Also, talk to Fred. He knows his shit.
google avatar

Jackson L.

Yelp
Went to see Black Rainbow there, got there early, stepped out to Mitchell`s for some ice cream on a nice, cold, Summer in The City....by the time I got back they started stamping people and asking for donations. Fair enough, but for a (ex) punk five bucks is five bucks! The venue has a nice, low ceiling and I have yet to see the record store...and probably won`t. It`s a modern-version of Epicenter or Mission Records (if you remember those places).
google avatar

Rego S.

Yelp
Almost all the old records are well-disguised reissues (save for the used bin in the back), so don't get too excited. At least they're marked as "new". I can't hold that against this place though, because there's no other way to maintain this kind of selection. And their listening station is a big plus.
google avatar

daniel m.

Yelp
It's a small hole in the wall and you are probably not going to find a major score here. But the records they do have are cheap and fairly priced (both new and used). The store focuses on punk and hardcore and serves a nice little niche. There are also in the basement from time to time. Always a party. Thrillhouse is volunteer run and operated and I believe they can always use a helping hand. Ultimately, a cool little shop that embodies the DIY spirit in a way that very few other places can.
google avatar

Jake A.

Yelp
Great little record store tucked away in the Mission delivers. This is the way you are supposed to shop for vinyl, with a small store and a friendly owner with endless knowledge about everything pop culture. Big punk section, but found some other great finds for dirt cheap. Even though it is a fraction of the size of Amoeba I could spend all day digging for groovy tunes and talking with fellow vinyl heads. Will definitely make it my first stop when looking to satisfy my record habit.

Opal B.

Yelp
Super cool find, they have a huge selection of cassettes and records. They have tons of pins and the staff is very friendly. Definitely worth visiting.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
Great old-school record store with a wide selection of punk vinyl, plus some blues and rock from 60s, 70s, 80s & 90s. I asked the guy at the counter a long-shot question: if they had any recordings of classic punk shows in SF -- and he had just the thing! Prices are very reasonable so bring your moneys cos there's lots you're gonna want.
google avatar

Mastiff B.

Yelp
Yay a record store for punk stuff! Selection is kind of small but I've seen and picked up a lot of records that I like there. There used to be shows in the basement but I heard from a friend that they're not allowed to do it anymore. That's too bad because I saw a lot of good bands at Thrillhouse: Toys That Kill, Shang-a-Lang, The Ergs, No People, etc. I saw them selling the Blotto cd here, so that alone would be automatic 4 stars. Why not 5? The selection is really small, I wish they had more, but what they do have is top notch really. Anyway, if you're looking for punk records or cds check this place out because they have excellent prices and it's just a really fun record store!
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
When I walked in here the other day, I started half-blindly grabbing things off the shelf because it all looked so amazing and wonderful to me! I was on a budget, though, so about halfway through my shopping experience I had to decide what to put back and what to keep. That is how much cool shit they have in this record store that is the size of my living room! It may be small, but this store is like a baby kitten: tiny, cute, but never fails to give you exactly what you're looking for. Okay, maybe that's not the best analogy for most people, but hopefully you cat people see what I'm trying to say with that analogy. The thing that made me give this place a five-star rating was the fact that I saw Hummingbird of Death on a 12". I have been looking for this artist for a while since I foolishly let someone borrow my HoD cd years ago and never saw it again. Seriously, when I saw this record here, my faith in humanity was restored! Of course I bought it, are you kidding me?? The punky hipster dude at the check out counter was pretty damned awesome as well. He wasn't all douchey about it when I attempted to strike up a conversation with him because that's what I do, damnit. We had a brief conversation about record store shopping and then I walked back to BART grinning ear-to-ear. Cash-only for this volunteer-run diamond in the rough! If you don't find something you like here, you're an asshole.
google avatar

Jessica T.

Yelp
Saw a really fun show here this weekend. Really really small space, but luckily I got there pretty early and scored a decent spot where I could almost see the band, but I wasn't going to get punched in the face. I am super glad places like this still exist and I had a pretty fun time!
google avatar

Zach L.

Yelp
As a record shop, you have all the necessary punk/hardcore records as well as hard to find ones. Great selection all in all. Prices are relatively cheap...at least cheaper then Amoeba. I remember picking up the latest Inepsy album there at a Lebenden Toten show for only $7. As a venue, this place is awesome. Although I'm not sure if they still put on gigs here, I remember seeing plenty of great shows a few years back. Some of the more notable ones were Lebenden Toten (PDX), Fy Fan (Sweden) and many more. All ages, no real rules. BYOB, smoking is cool. To simplify, it was a small basement with the roof and pipes inches from your head. Dimly lit with the smell of spilled beer and smoke. Sound was decent, but who really cared when seeing a band in such an intimate setting. Also, huge A+ for being in the city. After some of the lesser known DIY "venues" shutdown over the years (RIP Tehama, Warmwater) this place is awesome in location and relative ease to get there (driving or busing). Great place, must go back soon.

Yelp
Visited this record store once 2 years ago and the selection of Cd's and records their was amazing. Definitely a lot of great things that I couldn't afford at the moment. The Cd selections cases were opened with the disc held at the counter so I happily spent some time checking out a bunch of CD booklets. Ended up buying the Shaky Bones ep and some 7inch record that I was very happy with for under $5. Service was acceptable and the store had good prices on all the things I wanted

S. M.

Yelp
Visited Sat. 5/20/17 Amazing customer service. Very friendly. The guy at register could not have been friendlier and seemed very happy to work there. I didn't realize it was a punk heavy store, but I wandered in and was absolutely amazed that they had a selection of 80's vinyl. Im very much an old 80's pop kid, proven by the Duran Duran and George Michael tattoos on my arms-I am going back today for the record I didn't buy last night!...If anyone sees a mint condition 45 of The Reflex- Leave It! it's mine! :) I had no idea they were about to close because they didn't give that "ummmwe'reabouttoclosebuttwipe" vibe, that you have come to expect in this city and figured they would tell me-they didn't and let me shop until I was finished-sorry guys-and thanks, that was a very cool gesture. I will be back and be aware of the closing time-I promise! Amoeba, with their dirty stores and bad attitude can suck it-this gang of punks deserve our time and money! Thanks Thrillhouse.

Yelp
This is the best record store in the world. Best people, best selection, best prices. Nothing better.
google avatar

Caddy M.

Yelp
I love to dig for vinyl. Even better when I can do it in a small shop that doesn't make me feel overwhelmed. I went on Sunday right after they opened. I was greeted by the nicest, most pleasant dude. I looked at everything. and then looked again. All records are alphabetized, but not split by genre. I'm actually becoming more and more of a fan of this style of organization. It forces you to really look and consider wonderful records you might otherwise dismiss. I wouldn't be deterred by the punk rep this place has. The prices are really good, and it's just a cool shop. I encourage you to check it out for yourself.
google avatar

Ryne F.

Yelp
I just decided to check out this store for the first time and within a few minutes of being there, a black dog came running out from behind the counter and bit me on the leg out of nowhere. The owner reacted by laughing at me and saying I would be fine, which about sums up the vibe in this shop. I immediately left and went home to clean up my bleeding leg and figured I should post this as a warning to future customers. I would not go back into that store if I was paid.
google avatar

Gus R.

Yelp
This is an excellent co-op with a truly excellent range of new and used punk, post-punk, new wave and indoe alternative vinyl. Great selection of cassette tapes too if you wanna get a taste of the local scene. Staff are rad, knowledgeable and friendly. Support this store, support the scene and get some bargains.
google avatar

Yelp
They had a vinyl copy of The Restarts - System Error. 'nuff said

Yelp
Fantastic Punk rock record store for all the best records at awsome cheap prices, definitely come check it out, and they are always working for volunteers in the shop
google avatar

Yelp
Loved the store and the concert there, there were pretty amazing bands, I hope they'll have more shows like this in the future.
google avatar

Yelp
I waited all summer for these guys to open. I grew up around crusty stores like this one, and while I wouldn't say that I'm your typical punk collector, there are some gems in those dusty racks. I make it a point to always buy something when I go in because it would be a crying shame if these kids left the upper Mission.
google avatar

Jordan M.

Yelp
100% support this record store. If you like punk/hardcore there is no excuse not to come here... cheaper then amoeba.. D.I.Y. feel. So glad this spot exists, glad to have it in San Francisco.

Matt P.

Yelp
Fuck you for never being open when you're supposed to be. I've made the trek multiple times at reasonable hours that you are supposed to be open at. But of course, like all things managed by small children of punk, you're unreliable and a total nightmare of frustration.
