Visiting Thuy Tien Lake Abandoned Waterpark in Hue was a truly unique experience. I asked my apartment host for guidance, and she arranged a motorbike driver to tour me around. He was very knowledgeable about the area, which is quite far from the main highway.
As we approached, a guard asked for a fee, which I realized was a scam. Luckily, the driver spoke in Vietnamese and managed to haggle, and I ended up paying around 100,000 VND to be allowed in. When I arrived, there were only about 5 tourists, making it a quiet and surreal experience. Some of the fellow visitors were kind enough to take photos with me.
The highlight was climbing up the head of the dragon, it was deteriorating, making the climb both scary and thrilling. There were marks on the walls that hinted at the park’s past, adding to its eerie charm. I didn’t have time to explore further as it was already around 4 PM.
I hope the government of Hue preserves this abandoned site. It’s slowly gaining attention, and while it’s slightly risky, it’s a fascinating glimpse into Vietnam’s unusual and forgotten attractions.
