Andros Island in the Bahamas Has Luxury Hotels, Fresh Seafood, and the Largest Concentration of Blue Holes in the World

"Accessible only by seaplane or boat, this 14-room resort on South Andros offers luxury accommodations and French-inspired cuisine. Raise a red flag and a butler will come to your thatched-roof villa just steps away from the beach. Surrounded by 125 acres of nature preserve, the eco-chic resort also has activities such as reef fishing, diving, and wakeboarding." - Travel + Leisure Editors

"It is not quite accurate to say that this 13-room beachfront property on sparsely populated South Andros Island is off the beaten path. Sure, there are no roads to bring you here, and the only neighbors are the denizens of the 125-acre nature preserve that surrounds it, but a seaplane flight from Nassau will have you wading ashore in just 15 minutes. Once settled into their thatch-roofed private villas, guests gravitate toward the Great Room for fruity drinks, fresh-caught meals, and tall tales. While there is every kind of watery diversion, from bonefishing to scuba diving—and nature tours, too—it’s the kind of place where kicking your feet up is the most strenuous thing you’ll do all day, and where privacy is so valued that beach butlers won’t intrude unless, in one of the older nautical traditions, you raise a flag to indicate that you require food and drink."

Tiamo Resort ||Tiamo Resort is the kind of place you dream about when you think of escaping it all — tucked away on South Andros Island, accessible only by boat or seaplane, it offers a truly off-the-grid luxury experience. With just a handful of villas and a strong emphasis on sustainability, the resort strikes an intimate, eco-luxurious tone that’s hard to find elsewhere.||The scenery is stunning: turquoise waters, soft white sand, and lush greenery in every direction. It’s serene, quiet, and incredibly private — ideal for couples, honeymooners, or anyone looking to unplug.||The villas are beautifully appointed, especially the beachfront options, which open right onto the sand. Interiors blend Caribbean charm with modern comfort, and the outdoor showers are a lovely touch. Staff are warm and helpful, often going out of their way to accommodate special requests, though service can be on “island time” — laid-back and unhurried, which some may find part of the charm, while others might find it a bit slow.||Dining is generally excellent, with a focus on fresh seafood and local ingredients, though menu options can feel a bit limited over longer stays. Activities like snorkeling, bonefishing, kayaking, and nature tours are readily available, and the resort's commitment to conservation is a meaningful bonus.||That said, Tiamo isn’t for everyone. If you’re looking for nightlife, a bustling resort vibe, or modern connectivity, this may feel too remote. There can also be some logistical hurdles in getting there, so it pays to plan your arrival carefully.||Overall, Tiamo Resort is a special place — understated, exclusive, and immersive in the best ways. If your goal is to truly unplug and soak up the natural beauty of the Bahamas, this resort delivers beautifully.

We had a great time. The food was good, the staff excellent on all counts. Accommodation was not massively luxurious but stylish, comfortable and clean. This is a small, exclusive and remote resort, only accessible by boat and right on the beach with no other hotels, restaurants or people near by. It is right on the beach with a beautiful outlook to the sea. Great for stargazing, snorkeling, diving, and fishing - particularly bone fishing. We had a great guide who helped us to catch plenty of bone fish even though we have never tried this type of fishing before. Would recommend booking a guide direct rather than via the resort as would be cheaper. We also went on a bush walking safari led by a lovely and knowledgeable guide - Barbara, and included a swim in one of the famous blue holes. This was a beautiful and unique experience with not one other tourist or local in sight! The only negative were the sandflies that are prevalent on the island, but we strictly followed the managers bite avoidance advice and didn't have any problems with bites. Take lots of insect spray, antihistamines and coverup at night. Overall, I would highly recommend this quiet, unique and exclusive resort if you want a relaxing holiday with some adventurous activities and the best sleeps you'll ever have.

My wife and I had an amazing week at Tiamo. It is truly a tropical paradise! Our beach bungalow with a view of the turquoise water and spectacular sunsets each night was charming and spacious. Above all, though, was the incredible hospitality provided by the general manager, Fred, and his team. Thank you, Team Tiamo! See you next year, or sooner.

This is our 10th visit to Tiamo. We come twice a year now. Fred, the manager, and his entire staff treat us like royalty and we feel like family at the same time. We particularly like the separate cottages and the size of the resort. Tiamo is quiet, relaxing and soothing. Activities can be arranged but we simply like to relax, read, listen to music and see/hear the ocean. The accent is on old Caribbean but all the amenities. The food was outstanding prepared by the chefs Alex and Rene. Housekeeping by Reynaldo was twice a day and perfect. Luis took excellent care of our pool and grounds. John and Ron gave excellent food/bar service and anticipated our every need. Fred, manager, has become a wonderful friend and sees that everything is done right.

Perfect place to just breathe. Fred was a super host. Just made me feel at home. The entire staff was very friendly. Everyone there made the stay so memorable. The food…WOW! I tried several things I have never eaten, and it was just delicious. Jon was such a sweet guy. His smile made every meal just that much better. I look forward to our next visit. Fred promised to have the baby Seadoo water ready!

We loved Tiamo! We were there for a week mid-January 2025. It was the perfect place to relax.||Perhaps the best attribute of Tiamo is the attitude of every single staff member. From the kid who cleaned our pool every day to the general manager. Their answer to any request was always, “Yes”.||The food is outstanding! We are experienced travelers, and food is an important part of our travels. Each and every lunch and dinner presented some of the best, and beautifully plated, meals we’ve ever had. The seafood (fish, shrimp, lobster) is local and fresh. All is wonderful and perfectly cooked. The lamb was perhaps the best I’ve ever had. Great wines, too.||We went bonefishing (successfully!), snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming in the ocean (and in our private pool and in the main lodge infinity pool). We spent a lot of time sitting by the ocean or the pool with a beer in one hand and a book in the other.||Each villa feels as if it’s the only one on the island. The property is designed so that each villa is invisible from any of the others. Each villa has its own assigned beach chairs with an umbrella just feet from the ocean. The villas are not over-the-top showy luxurious. They are the perfect level of comfort to feel as if they belong in their setting.||One of the other reviews complained about the bugs. Yes, there were no-se-ums; they were barely noticeable and not a problem. If you are really troubled by insects, take deet; do not rely on herbal concoctions. (As recently published, deet’s not bad for you; its bad rap is undeserved.) If you’re in a natural environment and there are no bugs, they’ve probably sprayed ‘way too much insecticide.||Another reviewer complained that Tiamo did not have a high-end dive shop. Tiamo is not a diving destination. Diving can be arranged but it’s not a focus. If you are an avid diver (I once was), you belong on a liveaboard. Snorkeling was good; there were thousands of colorful fish. Sharks and barracuda, too. Blue holes are common on the reefs; they are connected (this is karst geology).||Tiamo is not an adventure destination. It’s a place to relax that offers the perfect level of activity.||We highly recommend Tiamo.||BTW – don’t count on your US phone working in the Bahamas. Our AT&T phones had bars but were pretty useless. We bought a Jitney Mobile eSIM right away; it was cheap and worked well. || If you’re connecting with one of the local air carriers to an island, give yourself lots of time. Same-day service seems to count as on time. One of our flights was 2 hours late; the other left 2 hours early.

This is a wonderful resort to go to when you want to completely relax. The beach is very nice and very private. There are lots of activities to do. The food and service was top notch.

This resort on this secluded island is gorgeous. We took two planes, a car and a boat to get to Andros. The staff was wonderful and welcoming. They went above and beyond for anything we asked or needed. The villas were clean and spacious. I've never seen water so beautiful. Water activities were great. Snorkeling was phenomenal. Biggest negative were the sand flies. We look and feel like we have chicken pox. We used the oils supplied by the resort and brought deet. Nothing worked. Unfortunately for me, the sand flies ruined an almost perfect romantic trip. I'm sad to say, I would not return because of the sand flies.
