I liked the experience here, however, the bathrooms were very neglected. The staff hardly ever saw them being cleaned. And under every bed I slept in, I found a lot of dirt, even dead cockroaches. But overall, the experience here is very good. The atmosphere is interesting, and the roommates are also interesting. You have several shared areas on the top floor. It's a very nice place to hang out with your partner or just relax. It's a good place to work remotely or online. Suitable for digital nomads. The place is close to everything, literally close to everything. There's a beautiful Thai food restaurant very close to the hostel, right in front of the tap on the same block as every hostel..

Absolutely loved my stay at Tido Hostel Penang! I had a private soundproof room with a beautiful view — such a rare find in Penang. The room was super comfortable, and the common area on the top floor was such a nice space to relax and meet people. The reception team was lovely and really helpful throughout my stay. Only thing to note: the rooftop common area closes at midnight, which also cuts off access to the water dispenser — but not a big deal if you plan ahead. Overall, such a great experience and totally worth the price. AND BEST AREA. Close to everything but also quiet. Would definitely stay again!

I recently stayed at this hostel and was very pleased! 🌟 It's an excellent place located in the old town with a wonderful atmosphere. The hostel has a large area for working, and the entire fifth floor is fully accessible to guests, which is very convenient. There are plenty of rooms, and they are well-equipped. The staff is always available and ready to help with any questions. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming, creating a pleasant environment. 👍 The air conditioning works great, which is especially important in hot weather. Additionally, there are a couple of cozy and upscale cafes right nearby where you can enjoy delicious food and great coffee. ☕️🍰 Overall, I highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient place to stay. I will definitely return here again! ❤️ ---

So this was a mixed experience with a fatal mistake. I booked this hostel with Agoda and already paid before my 3 night stay. On the day i checked in there was an extra 10 rm tourism tax/ day and extra i think 2 rm heritage tax/ day. Now under normal circumstances this would be fine. But on my 2nd day after chatting with other guests i realized that i had already paid the tourism tax in advance when i booked the room through Agoda. The desk person confirmed this mistake and said that the person checking me in must have known not to charge me but did so anyway. I got my money back but kinda ruined the vibe of the trip. Anyways the room, accommodations, co working space was great. though i don't think security was the best, make sure to bring a lock when you stay here to secure the locker.

The hostel is totally okay for its price, it has an elevator, free towels and a big lounge with free refill water. The beds in the dorm rooms don’t have curtains so it’s a little bit annoying at night when someone turns on the light. The location is good, it’s just 10 minutes walk from fruit markets and other restaurants away. If you wanna extend your stay you CANNOT pay in cash there you have to make online reservation whyever. They also charge a deposit (20MYR)

Use a plastic bag to tie back the massive curtains—this allows natural light from the large windows to brighten the room and lets you enjoy the view. The private rooms would benefit from proper curtain ties. I ended up using my bikini (and forgot) —otherwise, the space feels a bit like a gray concrete and metal dungeon. Many of the friendly staff earn only 2 ringgit per hour, so generosity and tipping are appreciated. I chose this place for the smoke-free environment. Private rooms are ideal for those seeking peace and quiet. The top floor is as quiet as a library. Some ceiling sound-dampening could make it even better. Highlights of the top floor include: comfortable lounges, big windows with a city view, microwave, filtered hot and cold water, dishes and utensils, and a small library. Room positives: pleasant air freshener through the aircon, clean sheets, comfortable bed, long narrow shelf behind the bed, large windows, nicely painted walls with framed art, mirror, space to hang clothes with leftover hangers, table with lounge chair, bag table, and at least three outlets. Tip: bring two pairs of shoes—one for outdoors, and flip-flops/sandals for indoor or shower use. They also provide several flip-flops for guests. Minor complaints: signage could be updated. The female-only floor may not be fully female. COVID-era cleaning signs remain posted, although it’s clear surfaces aren’t being sanitized every two hours. Breakfast signs are still up, though breakfast is no longer offered. Location is excellent—close to many top restaurants: Benton (second floor, across the street), Saigon (just around the corner), Rossi (down the street to the left), and Bottega (a bit farther away). Maliia Bakery is just a tiny block away, selling 12 fresh buns for only 3 ringgit. What would improve the rating? Cleaner elevators and bathrooms, a small gym or pool, an elliptical machine, more welcoming volunteers organizing activities, and a friendlier atmosphere in terms of design, guests, and staff. Overall: a great place to get things done.

🚨 DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOSTEL! 🚨 Tido Hostel in Penang is NOT safe. Your belongings can be stolen, and even though they’ll say they “checked the CCTV,” they will take no real responsibility or offer any compensation. My shoes disappeared inside the hostel, I looked everywhere, reported it, and in the end, nothing was resolved. Now, the worst part: you are FORCED to leave your shoes outside, because if you take them into the room, you get FINED 20 ringgit. But if they get stolen? That’s your problem. The hostel enforces rules, charges fines, but doesn’t fulfill its most basic duty: keeping guests’ belongings safe. And the problems don’t stop there: ⚠️ Bed bugs – Yes, get ready to be eaten alive at night. ⚠️ Dirty bathrooms and NO toilet paper – And they often stink. ⚠️ Rules, rules, and more rules, but ZERO accountability – They fine you for everything but vanish when it comes to doing their job. I’ve stayed in hostels all over the world, I know some issues are normal. But this place is simply not worth it. If you can, go somewhere else and avoid this headache.
