I made a reservation at Tien Hotel Penang through Agoda, but upon receiving the confirmation, I realized I had mistakenly selected the wrong date. Immediately — within less than 5 minutes — I contacted both the hotel and Agoda to request a cancellation.
Unfortunately, the hotel replied stating that according to their cancellation policy, they do not offer refunds under any circumstances. While I completely understand the importance of policies, in this particular case — just minutes after the booking and without causing any loss or inconvenience to the hotel — a small act of goodwill would have gone a long way. It was not a no-show or a last-minute cancellation; it was simply a human error that I tried to fix right away.
Agoda actually agreed that a refund was reasonable and even reached out to the hotel on my behalf. Yet, Tien Hotel Penang refused to refund the amount.
Honestly, this felt like a complete scam. With a simple act of understanding, they could have secured my loyalty and a future reservation for the correct dates — when I will actually be traveling to Penang. Instead, I'm left with the bitter feeling of having lost nearly $80 for something I attempted to fix almost immediately.
Such rigid and unempathetic management speaks volumes about how little they value their guests. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone expecting to be treated with basic respect and fairness.
