Tien Hotel George Town

Convenient location with plenty of food options within few minutes walk. Music sound can still be heard around 11pm but it’s not very loud, manageable for us. The cleanliness needs to be improved as there were still strands of hair in toilet, the bedsheets doesn’t seem very clean. Service as good thou as the check in was fast despite no onsite staff when we arrived and they were quick to prepare more toiletries when we ran out. But overall it is what you pay.

Bad experience Difficult to check in. No one at the counter to let us in, so we were stuck outside for half an hour. Room wasn't that clean or new and the door didn’t function properly. No fridge in the room. First time staying in a hotel that the Air con wasn't functioning properly so we had to report it and someone came to fix it in the middle of the night. Bad place someone coming with a car as there is no parking. Worse experience in a hotel, specially for the price. So many other better options in penang.

If u're looking for a hotel, dont look here. Good location but terrible receptionist / service. Also towels are old, abit of sewage smell and room is old. Street noise as others describe was not so bad on weekdays that i stayed, but im staying on the second level so even when the staff is using his phone for video call at the pantry area, i can hear in the early morning. Not great for light sleepers. Checked into the room with wet used towel on floor and tv remote with no battery. Also saw a note that says that my room requires housekeeping by prior guest, means the housekeeping isnt done daily. Sloppy to be honest. Receptionist perpectually missing even though her work hours are 11am to 6pm... so do ur own check in and checkout by grabbing ur own key card. People are disciplined here but in other places, they may just use your room without you knowing. I dont recommend it for solo travelers though location is ideal on main street. Dont expect hotel at this price, but i feel like this airbnb can do better overall with better housekeeping and upgrades.

The room is big but pointless, no good Air conditioned no cold. The room without a kettle for coffee making, have to go out. Today is the first night, still need to suffer for another 2 nights The receptionist is very helpful and nice.

I made a reservation at Tien Hotel Penang through Agoda, but upon receiving the confirmation, I realized I had mistakenly selected the wrong date. Immediately — within less than 5 minutes — I contacted both the hotel and Agoda to request a cancellation. Unfortunately, the hotel replied stating that according to their cancellation policy, they do not offer refunds under any circumstances. While I completely understand the importance of policies, in this particular case — just minutes after the booking and without causing any loss or inconvenience to the hotel — a small act of goodwill would have gone a long way. It was not a no-show or a last-minute cancellation; it was simply a human error that I tried to fix right away. Agoda actually agreed that a refund was reasonable and even reached out to the hotel on my behalf. Yet, Tien Hotel Penang refused to refund the amount. Honestly, this felt like a complete scam. With a simple act of understanding, they could have secured my loyalty and a future reservation for the correct dates — when I will actually be traveling to Penang. Instead, I'm left with the bitter feeling of having lost nearly $80 for something I attempted to fix almost immediately. Such rigid and unempathetic management speaks volumes about how little they value their guests. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone expecting to be treated with basic respect and fairness.

Tien Hotel is in a very strategic location. Very close to must-visit places of interests and food places. Tien Hotel is just 1 min walk to Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Koay. 2 mins across to durian stalls, 5 mins to night markets and also short walk to many famous cuisines.

Cheap and cheerful, no fridge, no receptionist and oddly enough, no bathroom door, which being a King room, that was quite weird. But, it is clean and tidy and in a great location.

Didn’t have a pleasant experience here, there are no doors for the toilet, it’s just a curtain, rooms are small, there is a pungent smell in the toilet possible due to drainage blockage, the pool is not a pool - looked like a slimy bathtub, no AC turned on at the upper deck so you can’t chill there, the pictures you see online is quite deceiving.
