I picked up a delivery order in the evening on Super Bowl Sunday. Since there was a wait for the order I was picking up, I wanted to place an order. As soon as I gave the cashier the name for my order, another customer walked in behind me. The cashier promptly walked off, and when she returned, she started talking to the other customers, even though I was standing right in front of them. I said, "Excuse me, but I wanted to order. Her response was "Well, since you have to wait, I'll take care of the other customer.” I was in shock, appalled. There was one item in the display left that I wanted. I knew if the other customer wanted that item and they were tended to first, I wouldn't have time to wait, nor come back before closing. When I gave a very inquisitive look, and didn't immediately respond, she asked again if that was ok. I said "Fine". Luckily, the other customer didn't want that item, and I was able to make my purchase. As soon as I made my purchase, I decided to ask about another item that was in the case. I was given the name of the item, and another customer walked in. I was then told to move to the side so she could assist the new. The other customer did not want to wait for new cookies to be made, and was indecisive about which items they wanted. After looking at the availability, the open to take the other item I was ready to purchase. Meanwhile, my pickup order was sitting in the counter between the bakery and the front for quite some time. Once the other customer had their order pulled together, the clerk decided to go to the back to look for something instead of first handing me the pickup order. It's unfortunate that a sale was lost, and I have no plans on purchasing from this store again if I ever encounter the same clerk. Regardless if I am picking up for myself or somebody else, I should be seen as a customer/customer by proxy. It's a shame that the same considerations aren't given to everybody who walks through their door.
