Fantastic chowder. Rich, flavorful, and exactly what you want after walking around Galway. The bread that came with it was incredible, fresh and perfect for soaking everything up. And the Guinness was super creamy, poured properly and tasting spot on. Service took a little while at first, but once I ordered, the food came out very quickly. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere felt authentic and relaxed. A great place to slow down, enjoy a proper meal, and have a solid pint. I would definitely come back.

This is exactly how I picture a traditional Irish pub. I am staying close by and have come in a few times over the past few days. The staff have been extremely friendly everytime. I had the seafood chowder yesterday and it is one of the best soups I have ever tasted. It was hearty, had big chunks of fish, and was great value. It was so delicious. I highly recommend coming here for a fantastic experience.

I first visited years ago when a local shop owner recommended it to me after seeing my surname. The food and drink here are great! You can have a light offering if you’re here right when they open. (The shop owner was from “Galway Bay Gifts” which is now closed sadly). Nevertheless, I’m glad of him for his recommendations not only here but even having taking my mother and I under his wing a bit. Tigh Neachtain’s is a lovely and iconic spot in Galway. I visit every chance I can.

Felt like a local! Eating real Irish food with the best ambiance! Go here! The Irish Coffee was particularly delightful! The downstairs had some fantastic pockets and snugs and the upstairs was great to eat with a group!

We had a nice lunch at the this pub. We sat outside and I ordered their oysters which were fabulous. We also ordered a caesar salad which was not very Caeser salad like but it was good. We also ordered some fries which were served with garlic mayo. Overall, quite enjoyable.

Fast bar service, live music, great Guinness....what more do you need? Smoking area out back is handy for when it gets hot 🥵🔥🥵. We had a group of 13 and found space, it's a small spot but you spread out. Locals and tourists mixing, one of the best places visited.

Our group of 11 (ages 25–34) chose this pub because of its strong reputation and because it’s known as a great place to visit. Instead, we were met with treatment that was rude and completely unjustified. After politely moving from our original table to another due to a strong food smell coming from open bins beside it, a staff member told us this was not the establishment for our group and even suggested other bars we would be “better suited to.” We were fully aware of our group size and immediately offered to split up across different tables to make things easier, but we were told this wasn’t allowed either. Something that made the situation even more baffling. The pub was not busy, and we were a group of young professionals behaving respectfully, yet we were dismissed in a way that made it clear we were being judged on appearance. The interaction felt unfair and inappropriate, and left my friends feeling embarrassed and uncomfortable. The staff member’s cold, dismissive attitude only made it worse. Whether this comes down to poor training or poor judgement, it was deeply unprofessional. Having since read other recent reviews mentioning rude staff, it seems this may be an ongoing issue management should take seriously. As someone who has family in Galway and has spent years visiting the city, this left a terrible impression, especially when all I wanted was to show friends, including visitors from abroad, the highlights of Galway. We were ready to enjoy ourselves, spend money, and support a well-regarded venue. Instead, we were pushed out without cause. Hugely disappointing from a place we expected far better from.

Stopped in to have a Jameson and avoid the rain. Such a cute place. Luckily we got seats at the bar and ordered a quick drink. The staff was efficient and friendly. The crowd was cozy in corner booths. I wished we had more time to stay and enjoy the atmosphere!

A historical and iconic pub - it didn't have live music or food (that I saw) but had a great cozy pub vibe with super friendly staff and crisp Guinness. Tons of snugs to sit in on a rainy day to warm up and enjoy a pint with friends. Outdoor seating available too and is always busy.

Stopped by for a drink in our first night in Galway. Order at the bar and then try to find a seat somewhere; didn't seem like they serve food (or at least not at dinner time). Several rooms of seating and an outdoor section as well that is sometimes covered

Please note that this is a pub... no trad music other than an occasional fiddle player. They don't have food either, so you are strictly here for drinks. They have some cozy, private nooks for 2-4 people tucked away all throughout which makes it cozy and intimate. Unfortunately there were no tables available inside or out during our 4 days in town. So grab a pint and spill out onto the streets with everyone else. It was incredibly hot inside as there was a bit of a heatwave in his past week with temperatures reaching almost 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Really solid bar food for lunch. If you can grab a table during a sunny day, you'll be able to eat and drink right in the middle of the action. With street performers playing music on the street, you even get live music to go along with your meal. I didn't have high expectations for pub food but the lamb burger and BLT were excellent. Lamb burger was very juicy and worked well with the thick bread. Bacon lovers will enjoy the thick slices of bacon on the BLT. Service was pretty good for a busy day as well. Wouldn't recommend for a very large group or kids though because it is a bit tight between the tables.

Very very busy! No seating available on the covered or non covered patio so we found a nook inside and shared some delicious food! The bacon was very flavorful and the fried polenta on the veggie platter was great! The salad was exactly what I needed - vibrant greens, tomatoes and a light dressing. Enjoyed drinks as the rain started and poured for about an hour so we had lucky timing as well.

Great selection of drinks and great food. Wonderful place to just sit and eat while enjoying the sights.

This is a quaint little Irish Pub that was built in the 1890's. It was home to a well known animal rights activist and when you walk in the door you feel like you just walked into someone's kitchen or sitting room. There are little nooks and corners with bench seating and stools, fire places, a bar with a great selection of beer and whiskey. You can get a great bowl of chowder here as well, some of the best in the city if you ask the locals. You have to get here early if you want to hang here in the evening, it gets very crowded, very quickly, but it definitely hits the old Galway City vibe.

Atmosphere was mesmerizing. The food was solidly yummy (seafood chowder and a scone). Their jam is the jam! The service was outstanding. Seriously this will be one of our favorite experiences visiting Ireland.

Please stop if you are in Galway! We planned to sit outside as they have prime people watching outdoor seating but as the weather looked blustery we moved indoors and were delighted with the ambiance inside ... the food was delicious, the service SO friendly and the soulwater bulletproof ipa was the tastiest we've had in Ireland! We tried the seafood chowder, fennel soup, the lovely things platter, Parmesan polenta fries and tomato bruschetta ... all scrumptious!

Our family toured most of Southern Ireland over the course of 10 days, and of all the great pubs, this was one was tops! By an incredible stroke of luck, we managed to secure one of the "snugs" and were able to hang for a couple of pints. The character of this place is unsurpassed, and the patrons there were as friendly as they were entertaining. If you're a tourist, grab at least grab 1 pint in this place as it will round out your Irish experience. Just don't order a Murphy's!

Amazing Customer Service, Very Clean and Amazing Atmosphere. . As stated in the above I was made feel very Welcome. It should be noted I served all the World with the U.S.Marines and lived in the United States of America for over thirty years. I definitely know a great bar from my travels and life experiences . I definitely will visit this amazing bar in the near future again. Tigh Neachtain rates Five Stars and more! you definitely won't be disappointed.

Our first pub of the night did not disappoint! Everywhere was pretty crowded so we just chose a pub and dove in. Ordering our respective Guinness' after being personally guided to the bartender by a very welcoming and energetic group on a guys trip from Dublin. It was a great atmosphere, even with being so crowded. Never once was anyone rude for being smooshed. Great experience and made some wonderful friends for our time in Galway!

This was my favorite pub atmosphere in Ireland, the interior was so quaint and they had the fireplace roaring on an early afternoon in September, absolutely loved the interior. The seafood chowder here is the best I've tried anywhere, definitely rivals the light but hearty chowders in Maine on the East Coast of the United States. The chowders in Ireland are packed with pieces of fresh seafood, but they have the light and flavorful broth nailed down at this spot! Wished we could have stayed longer to try more items on the menu. A visit at lunchtime during the day may help to avoid the crowds, because at night this place like so many pubs is jam packed and people overflow to the outside.

Not one our guide recommended but one we chose due to outside decor was so inviting, so pretty. We are so glad we chose this. The soups were amazing! We ordered oysters and lobster roll. Hubby ended up eating all of it because all of it had dairy. Here's a tip, when you order oysters don't say "dozen oysters" because you'll get buttermilk poured into them (I find this nasty let alone allergic to milk) make sure you order "al natural" at least I got to eat the soup which was great. Honey enjoyed the lobster roll too.

They are located on a corner with great outdoor seating. The perfect place to sit have and a beer and do some people watching after a day of exploring the surrounding area of Galway.

Great place to stop by. It's small inside but the fun was to sit outside. We sat for a few hours because locals visit this place and it was great to talk with them. €5.00 per beer which is a fair price. Read the sign BEFORE you enter the restroom area...funny.

Tigh Neachtain made my Galway fantasy of walking into a cosy pub, taking a seat at the bar and then hearing some Irish musicians strike up in the corner, come true. It's a particularly delightful multi-roomed pub in a historical building belonging to one of the Tribes families. And if the atmosphere and music wasn't enough, they also had a fantastic Dublin-brewed milk stout on tap and plenty of whisky options too.

I just love Neachtain's. Despite being right in the thick of the tourist quarter of Galway, it maintains a brilliant crowd of locals and makes for a great atmosphere. It's inexplicably tiny inside and always full of people but the bartenders are always quick to get through the crowd and ever-courteous. If you can get a seat outside in the summer, it's one of the best places to relax, soak up the sun and have a bit of a gawk at people. You can fit a good crowd of 15 around the tables and still get out to the bar from any seat on either side. The staff keep the place free of glasses and are always sound.

Excellent little Galway pub. Gets crowded out front. Look for the snugs in the back. Good crowd. Friendly bartenders.

This is one of my favorite stops in Galway - amazing service, care, music, and memories. Put this on your list for a visit - it will not disappoint.

Loved this pub!!!!!! It was small and quaint but like a hole in the wall. They had the best 3 piece band, they were so talented! The alcohol selection was very good, lots of diversity. The servers weren't overly friendly like at most places but they were quick. There isn't much space so you have to get there at the right time to get a seat. Worth spending some time!!

One of the best pubs I've been to on this island. The snugs are adorable and the bar men were so nice. A ton of beer options compared to most places and such a cozy vibe. I'd absolutely recommend stopping here. There's also a ton of outdoor seating for the warmer months.

This place came highly recommend by several bolggers. It is a great place to grab a beer and a 'snug' and get out of the rain. I set back and read my Kindle while waiting to meet up with my friends for lunch.

Went for the music. Not much place to sit but great traditional music. The troupe we saw did not have any vocals but truly great fiddlers. Others instruments were good also. Fine bar with lots to select from. The music made it a standout.

Great Pub! This has quickly become my fav place in Galway. It's a small pub with limited seating but the people and staff are friendly. Love this place! I tried the Whiskey sampler and found the Green Spot to be a favorite.

Had a great drink here! They have a wonderful whiskey collection, and a wine bar next door.

This place was great. The people were great. The staff was amazing and catered to westerners and were very accommodating and forgave us our touristy traits. Good on you guys

I'm of two minds about this place. On the one hand, for me, it's a fantastic little pub on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. It's quiet enough to get a seat and enjoy a pint. On the other hand, once it gets later, especially in the evening, the place quickly gets packed to the point that trying to order a beer is uncomfortable. Forget about finding a seat. Your best bet is to go outside and stand around until someone near you leaves. The Galway Hooker brewery brews beer for Tigh Neachtain. It used to be Opus II, a dark wheat beer but when I went in yesterday, it had been replaced by Napoleon stout which is just a regular nitro stout like Guinness. In fact I ordered it and while I was waiting (they do the 2 part pour like Guinness) another man beside me ordered a Guinness and a few moments later a beer arrived in a Guinness glass. He went off with that. I'm pretty sure that was my stout as the bar tender then poured a Guinness and that was the next beer in front of me. I left beerless and joined my friends. I had not paid yet. It was too packed and too loud to explain to the bar man what happened and the guy who took what I suspect was my beer, disappeared in to the crowd, never to be seen again. There was live traditional music going on as there is every night. So like I said; I am of two minds. If you like that sort of close personal contact with people then go for it but if not, either avoid, or go on a quiet afternoon.

If you like Irish whiskey, visit this bar. It is very popular, so try to get there early, otherwise you will be a bit pressed for space. The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. Prices are fair and makes for a good spot to begin a night in Galway after enjoying dinner at one of the nearby restaurants.

We spent a lovely afternoon here, tried a whiskey board, a few beers, met a charming couple. Lots of books, art and whiskey!

Quickly our favorite spot in Galway! Loads of fun folks to talk with, the lady bartenders kept the pints flowing and the live music out in the street was awesome. You can sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere or just stand around and mingle, a definite go to in Galway!!

Great Irish pub. The Guinness was flowing at this place and you know it was properly serve. Not a lot of room for seating. But if you don't mind standing around it's all good.

This place is your stereotypical Irish pub in Galway. Live music, good pints, and lots of tourists. It is a good place to go have a drink or two and then move on for something a little more low key.

I think this is my favorite pub in Galway City. I love it for its ambience and very unique physical design. But then of course also its thick with a local vibe, especially a musical flavor. The afternoon of our most recent visit we were surprised by a trio playing in the corner; turns out to be some sort of prominent "trad" performers...so for the price of a few pints we enjoyed some fantastic local music.

We thought this place was great, as far as the whisky and beer selections, and live music (Beatles cover songs that evening). I can see how it would get uncomfortably crowded on a weekend evening, but we found it the best pub we visited in Galway.

I stopped here on a whim as I was walking back to my B&B. This tiny pub was packed with friendly people and a super helpful staff. I ended up meeting a group of other people and going to another bar afterwards dancing. The music playing was super lively and gave the whole room a great atmosphere!

I liked the little nooks of seating in the back room, it felt like hiding in a library. Great spot for drinks, i thought it was the least touristy out of the area.

I love how cosy this place is. Great location, always buzzing, and well priced drinks. Arguably the best pint of Guinness in town too! Really lovely pub with lots of character and history.
