If you live in the US and have a passport, a trip to this museum is very worth it. If you live in Baja close to TJ and you haven't been, why not??? This is a very very nice museum and I could not believe that it was free. It's right next to a nice mall with a couple of Cinepolis cinemas, so there is plenty of things to do in the area. There are also some really nice restaurants around. Parking here can be tricky because the museum's paid paid parking lot is small. The nice guard offered to valet my car just for me, but uh, no thanks. I just headed back to the mall across the street that charges only 20 pesos to park there and it was no big deal to cross the street.
I really like the designs of this building. Many exhibits are sectioned off into separate galleries which can come off as being a little strange, but I think it's mostly because of the different exhibits having various rules about photography. All galleries are still free. One of my favorite exhibits is the one about California history, but from the Baja California perspective. This might be a little different from what you read in YOUR textbooks. I sure learned a lot, lol. But, there are some interesting artifacts I had never seen before. The explanations are presented in both Spanish and English, in a very logical timeline and the exhibits are multilevel on very gradual slopes. This makes accessible for people with disabilities and/or ambulatory issues. Very clever design.
