Enjoyed my stay here and felt this hostel provides a unique experience. The beach is right outside and a good surf spot for beginners. I really liked how it feels outdoorsy and close to nature. My room is a simple partition but not enclosed, so I wake up to the birds chirping. There is a garden in the outdoor common spaces and several cats roaming around. The staff are super friendly and work hard to keep the place clean. I would give 5 stars if the bathrooms were a bit cleaner and had better ventilation. Otherwise I would still consider staying here again.

Google
What a lovely place to stay! Amidst the great location, this hostel is really really charming and inviting. The shared outdoor Tiki garden area is a great place to relax and meet other guests. I enjoyed hearing waves and bird life in the morning. The staff were all super helpful and friendly. I would definitely come back here and send my friends.

This hostel is a great option for travelers looking for adventure at an awesome price. The place is (mostly) surprisingly clean for being a tropical location with doors and windows open all the time. The staff is super friendly and the place is adorable. Plus, it’s right on the beach! With parking!! And the cats were a lovely surprise that really made my trip even better. That being said. The harsher reviews on here are fair, mostly. And the negative ones, I think, reflect people who didn’t read reviews/don’t know what a hostel is. I have been around the world staying in hostels and this was one of the best experiences, this one is great for younger travels (but all age friendly). If an amazing island paradise on the beach with cool friends for a great price - but with shared small rooms, bunk beds, flat pillows, and sometimes unintentionally disrespectful guests - doesn’t appeal to you - you should probably book a resort instead.

This place was honestly gross and run down, I've stayed at dozens of hostels, and nothing was quite like this. The shower was literally decaying from the wall. The smell of cat and cat urine is also VERY strong, if cat's aren't your thing. It was fine for the two days I stayed and only needing a place to crash with full days of activities. Any longer and I would have booked elsewhere. It is pretty quiet though, and has a great location to the beach.

Google
Tiki Beach Hostel’s best attribute is the location. Kitchens both have plenty of pots, pans, etc. The tents are a better buy than rooms. Beautiful garden. However, the property is becoming quite run down. It is one of the quietest hostels I have stayed in. If cleanliness is your thing, don’t go here. We enjoyed our 5 day stay, but be prepared for the conditions.

You will feel more than welcomed staying here! The couple who runs the hostel are amazing and friendly people. I stayed for a month when I was here and really came to know them well. The facility overall is perfect if your spending most of your time outside and at the beach. It’s around a 30 second walk to the ocean. The backyard is a fun place to hangout at night and kick back. You’ll meet people from all over the world and life long friends. Book a stay! You won’t regret it. ❤️

Google
The location of the hostel less than 50' away from the beach was a great bonus and a highlight to surrounding areas. The staff were fantastic and very accommodating with friendly smiles and great conversation. They work very hard to keep the hostel clean, accommodate the guests, and are always hustling to get the job done. I couldn't ask for better stay and the daily rate is very affordable and reasonable.

Google
The room was clean and secure. I don't think the bathroom should have one hand towel for that many people, bathroom dirty at night, hard to get in for shower.... Disposable would be best. Bathroom was cleaned daily. I use the outdoor bathroom and shower. Which were dirty. House rules are quiet times at 10 pm. Well, not when we stayed. People up talking and telling jokes in the kitchen until 11, then kids up screaming at 7 am. It says children not allowed but... There were 2 small kids there under 4 and I was expecting no kids (screaming bright and early and, in closer quarters you can hear everyone).

Yelp
Don't come here with the intention of sleeping. There was no parking so I paid $25 to overnight park in a lot, and really I should've just slept in my car. I had a tent, and the mattress I had was actually amazingly comfortable, which is why I left two stars. I really wanted to sleep because I had a long day but that was incredibly difficult due to the close quarters of everyone and the lack of respect for quiet hours. My tent was right near the washing machine and the dryer was going till past 11. I didn't see any signs that said no washing past a certain point, but the house quiet hours were at 10. I've stayed at hostels all over the world and know partying and meeting people in your hostel has been some of my favorite travel experiences. However with this hostels open floor plan you can hear the screaming and hooting all night long, and can't ignore the partying.

Yelp
I don't usually ask for people's names at businesses. If I do, I often forget them when it comes time to review. Not here. The host, Yali(sp?), was incredible. She was constantly walking around cleaning, and generally improving everything about the hostel. She knew the area well, and had great recommendations. She did this all with the gorgeous grace of a movie star. I wanted to take a picture of her for my review, but I didn't want to be be a creep. The location is out of this world, I don't know how it could be better. You're about 237 paces to the beach and you're a very short walk to the Waikiki-esque madness of "downtown" Lahaina. The WiFi here is world-class. The fastest I've ever had at anywhere I've ever stayed. That is not an exaggeration. The rooms are nice and cool. (common areas have no AC though) The common areas have a great, communal, party atmosphere. (there are a few communal cats too!) Nice perks like free snorkel rental. My only complaint is: there just aren't enough restrooms showers here. There is always a line. The bed-to-bathroom ratio is way out of whack.

Yelp
Never thought I'd stay in a real hostel before. In my travels before, I came close to a property in downtown Vancouver, BC Canada, but we had our own rooms with shared bathrooms. I almost had to call this recent trip to Lahaina, Maui off because I couldn't find a decent hotel on the island, with hotel rooms averaging $225/night in Lahaina, Kihei, and even Kahului/Wailuku during January 2018. A friend of mine told me to check Airbnb and I saw a bunch of properties in the area till I saw this hostel property listed. It is in a prime location on Front Street and where I needed to be. The price was oh so nice, very much under $100, so I scored in that respect. But me in a hostel was a very real and new concept to me. I decided to take the plunge and sent the request for accommodations on Airbnb. It was accepted 12 hours later and they charged my credit card. I was anxious leading up to the trip, since as mentioned before, I've never stayed in a hostel. I figured I can tough it out for a night and the reviews on yelp seemed in favor for this place called Tiki Beach Hostel. I received an email reminder from Airbnb saying check out is 12 midnight the next morning. I freaked out, thinking I had to check out at midnight. I emailed the Tiki Beach Hostel for clarification, but they never emailed me back. I saw their website stating that check out is 11am, so that made me relax a bit. I'm glad I did make the trip and the hostel outlook seems to be better. I guess I've been spoiled with modern hotels and motels, so it was good to try new things. The overall experience here at the Tiki Beach Hostel in Lahaina Maui was interesting. I kept an open mind and I was pleasantly surprised at what I found. This hostel definitely feels like a converted home turned into a hostel. There are beds everywhere on property, complete with bunk beds and a common areas to hang out with other people who are staying along with you. I'm sure the draw to come to this hostel is the price point and those budget travelers who want a good rate when they come to Maui for vacation. The Tiki Beach Hostel is located in the heart of Lahaina town @ 545 F Front Street. The shared driveway is directly across the tennis courts and 100 feet away from the free public parking lot. Prices here are very good, comparable to what the hotels and resorts do charge on Maui. Upon arrival, I parked at the free public parking lot and walked in. I noticed my name on the check in bulletin board, so that was kind of cute and intimate. The instructions was very helpful and there was someone at the desk to answer any questions you could have during your stay here on Maui. Parking here is very very limited. I was told that parking is limited to the spaces directly in front of the property, which is about 4 cars. Apparently you can't park in the free parking lot across the street overnight. If you park in front of the hostel, you need to sign your car in with the hostel. First time I slept in bunk beds since I was a kid. I picked the bottom, since I saw the bedding wasn't disturbed or had someone else's stuff on it. The lady at the desk told me since, I was running the half marathon the next morning, I can shower afterwards while my stuff gets stored behind the front desk. Score! The bed itself isn't as comfortable as I thought it would be, but I'm not complaining, since the accommodations were super cheap, since it is Maui, after all. While this experience does not really reflect my view of hostels in general, it does make my views on hostels better. Sometimes, it's just the location and the staff that makes the place awesome. Tiki Beach Hostel caters to everyone and thought that it was a good night's stay on Maui at an affordable price. I did enjoy the common areas in the back of the property, complete with the lawn furniture and outdoor lighting at night. Feels like you're in a luau or a festive time at a friend's house. For the most part though, I gotta admit that the hostel experience was good and eye opening. While this hostel is good, sometimes the others elsewhere aren't so awesome. Thanks to Maui's Tiki Beach Hostel for being a good example. Recommended if you are in the area and don't mind the Hostel experience. It's a departure from the usual hotel gig, but if price is an important factor for your trip to Maui, consider this property. It's pretty cool. I'm sold! 4.0 stars for the overall experience. 4.0 stars for the service and 2.5 stars for bed comfort, but the price makes this place a winner! Support local! B *there is air condition and there's free wifi, but with code

Yelp
My advise would be to avoid this hostel like the plague. Booked in here because we were on a budget and was the cheapest place we could find that still had availability. There was a reason for that. Our bedroom was a glass house. Literally a glass house with 4 beds in it. It rained while we were there and with no glass on the top of the side walls we got saturated that night. All we had was one sheet, not even a blanket. As far as I'm aware I heard that Maui rains a lot so I'm not sure how this works out? The staff were appalling. All but Chloe who was the only redeeming quality of this hostel. There was a German girl there and possibly the most unhelpful person I have ever dealt with. I didn't have quarters for the washer and asked if she did. She looked at me and all I got was a 'no'. There was no hot water in the shower. I told her this all I got was 'oh, there should be'. She didn't come to the bathroom and even check to see if I was doing any thing wrong. When I came out a second time and explained I ran the tap for 10 minutes and there was definitely no water. She replies with 'there's should be' and continued to sit on the sofa drinking her water. Eventually I got another guy at the hostel to figure it out for me. Long review but definitely needs to be written - I have no idea how the good reviews made it on to this site because this is over priced and a horrible experience.

Yelp
This hostel was awesome. My girl friend and I ended up having to book this hostel out last minute and we are SO happy we did. The people were welcoming and nice. It is like a big family. We slept in the tents and it was not bad at all, it was actually super private and gave us an adventure feel while we were here. We are planning on coming back in 6 months to move here and we are definitely going to stay here in between moving and finding our home.

Yelp
Location- Amazing! (one star) That's where amazing stops! Only two bathrooms for 20+ guests and they are dirty & disgusting. Staff is not rude, just indifferent. If you have a vehicle you may be directed to park across the road in a dark, unsupervised lot. Sign says current residents only, but I witnessed many standing at the doors, who did not have the code let in and most likely led to the parking issue. Watched a female guest get harassed this morning by one of these individuals (yes I offered to help). Finally staff started a blower up early in the morning, which in itself was annoying only to come out and find my Mercedes covered in crap they blew off the walkways. If you are looking for a party atmosphere this is the place and many younger people seemed to enjoy that so that may be a plus (gave a star for that).

Yelp
The best hostel on Maui for sure! Great vibes and great people. The kittens are adorable and so loving. Lots to do at this hostel and the staff are very helpful and everyone is so nice and friendly. 2min walk to the beach and Front street. Couldn't ask for a better vacation spot. I'll be back for sure!

Yelp
This is my first time staying at a hostel. I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Upon arriving I was greeted by Martin who showed me my sleeping space, a bunk bed on the patio enclosed with bamboo. There was a shelving unit to put my things on. I had told them I didn't mind a mixed dorm, I'm a mom of adults so these guys were my kid's ages! There are two indoor bathrooms with showers and an outdoor bathroom and shower which I opted to use, I loved the jungle like backyard setting and seeing the stars while I showered! The bed was more comfortable, the pillow a lil flat but I made do, the sheets clean and comfy and a fan blowing right on me, I was in heaven as it was super humid for my visit! I slept like a rock every night I was there! They foster a real open feeling there, a nice outside area where people gathered often and got to know one another. It was unusual to hear another American there! There are two kitchens, this place is actually two homes connected thus two kitchens with two refrigerators each and you're provided with tape and a marker to label your food. The hostel is literally steps from the beach, which is good for surfing but not much for swimming, it's full of boulders. It's a great place to watch the sunset and stroll along in the morning with your coffee. I will return again for sure!

Yelp
We haven't even received our services yet just trying to check in and see how the layout's gonna be for our teenagers Martin as the representative tonight picked up our phone call and was extremely rude and professional And not welcoming all he kept on saying is why don't you cancel your reservation over and over agand over again unacceptable I hope the owner calls us we have 2 weeks before we get to maui for our 1st time with 3 teenagers

Yelp
This was a great place to stay if you want a few lazy beach days. It was a 2 minute walk from the beach and 5 minutes or less into town. However, if you're looking for a big party this is not the place. We were sort of in party mode after leaving Banana Bungalow and switching to this place so were a bit disappointed, but you can always walk to town and go to the bars. The staff were friendly, but it was very low key. Very nice inside and beautifully decorated. The only other downside was that there are only two bathrooms with showers plus one other outside for the entire house. It was a bit of a challenge at times. Overall, was a nice place to stay.

Yelp
Here are some things I noticed during my stay at the Tiki Beach Hostel. I stayed at the Tiki Beach Hostel for two nights this December (2021) while visiting a friend on the island. The first thing I noticed when I got to the hostel was the misleading pictures on their website. The rooms are nothing like the pictures and the general area is much more dirty (Lots of bugs, dirt, & grime). The dorms are actually right outside the housing area and should be advertised as a porch with a DIY looking bamboo wall. While this isn't too much of a problem for me, I can imagine how it can be an unwelcoming surprise for someone else. Additionally, after just getting through all the COVID-19 checkpoints and stuff at the airport, I was surprised to see there was no care or attention to mask mandates or safety guidelines. It was as if covid-19 did NOT exist. The owner, Martin, did not seem to care about any safety precautions nor did he seem to care about the risks of spreading the illness as he let his 2 year old son run around the hostel as well. Again, all subjective to the person who is staying, but good to know before planning to stay here. I will say the beach is literally seconds from the hostel which is awesome...But it also means, that you can hear all the beach parties at night, which according to locals, happens quite often. Tiki Beach Hostel has a reputation for partying on the beach and is actually quite frowned upon by the nearby residents. During my stay, I was able to hear shouting and screaming til about 2am. There is a lights out policy at 10pm which means people have to be quiet, although most people just go to the beach and continue screaming from 30 feet away. Being an outdoor person, I also noticed that the tents they have are the cheap $20 Coleman tents from Walmart. Don't get me wrong, it is a place to sleep-but the truth is, those tents will NOT keep the rain or bugs out. Prior to my stay, there was rainy weather and ultimately led to people's tents getting flooded and were forced to sleep elsewhere. Luckily, that wasn't the case for me, but I wouldn't be surprised if that has happened more than once. These are just some of the things you should consider before staying here. If you're coming to the island to make friends, just come to the hostel during the day because they really don't care who hangs out. If you want to stay the night, you might be better off sleeping in the rainforest where you can get bugs, dirt, and rain for free. I do not recommend spending your money here.

Yelp
So happy I stopped here! I needed a bed for the night since my hotel booking plans were different than my airline plans (by a night). My flight was late and I didn't end up getting here until around 9pm. It was a bit difficult to check in as there wasn't anyone around. I thought there was just a group of travelers hanging out in the back, but once I introduced myself, Rubiana showed me around and was altogether super friendly! In fact, everyone was super friendly. The bunk beds weren't bad, and while I only got a sheet for a cover, I didn't even use that because the temperature was just right (thanks Hawaii!). When I woke up there was fresh coffee and some delicious fruit ready. The bathrooms were clean I never had to wait for them. If you want a low cost alternative to the resorts and you don't mind sharing your bathroom and rooming with different people, this is the place to go.

Yelp
Sherry runs a great hostel that is so dear We had super awesome dinner party here with fresh I he tuna and money money that I caught the previous night

Yelp
Pros: -awesome outdoor common area -nice outdoor shower -great location Cons: -upkeep is "relaxed" (broken toilet seats, leaking faucets, etc) -not enough bathrooms -brave cockroaches -no blankets, just top sheet -some accommodations are not in bunk houses... ours was on a porch with bamboo reeds partially enclosing it which they called the bamboo room... it was not a room. There was no where to put your luggage, our "bamboo wall" abuts an outdoor common space where you hear people very well even when they are being politely quiet and there was no secure door so you were basically leaving your pack on a porch in full access of all 24+ residents We enjoyed our stay well enough but this experience will make me think to ask the following in the future: -is my bed in a room? Does the room door have a lock? -should I bring my own sleeping bag/blanket? -what is your max guest capacity and how many bathrooms are there?

Yelp
I loved staying there , it's such a good energy, helpful and friendly staffs, nice kitchen and back yard with couches, tables and grill...It was so much fun, I met people from all over the world, so it's a great place if you traveling alone, you will meet lots of new friends;) and location is great, right next to the ocean! Martin ( manager) was so helpful , showed us beautiful beaches, gave a lot of recommendations about the island and they even cooked dinner for everybody! I really enjoyed it, I totally recommend it.

Yelp
Cool place to stay, hang, and meet people from all over the world. Lots of different types of rooms and in the middle of everything. Best deal in town!

Yelp
This is actually a review of Hakuna Matata (sister hostel to Tiki Hale right across the street and run by the same management), which is not on Yelp yet because I think it's somewhat new. Loved this place - it had everything we needed for a great stay. Nice, modest rooms, full working kitchen, friendly and attentive staff, laundry, decent bathroom (though a little hard to share), plenty of parking, and in an amazing location (super close to bars, shops, and beach; but tucked away on a quiet side street). AC works but a little rough. Free snorkel gear and bikes for all to use. Fresh towels whenever you need them. Didn't attend any of the activities as I was busy doing my own stuff but I bet they were fun. I liked that there was a private dorm room for women. Beautiful views of the West Maui mountains. No degenerates hanging around, haha. Would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
What an amazing experience to be had at the Tiki Hale!! I spent four glorious days there and did not want to leave. The festive atmosphere is not for everyone so make sure you want to party on the back deck and enjoy ALOHA! The hosts, Christopher, Andy and Kimo/James were so sweet and welcoming they made me feel like family! Sharing food, music and laughter with the other guests, the locals and the natives was a culturally enlightening experience and I appreciate the honest chats we had around the torches ;-) I spent my 51st birthday there and plan to go back for my 52, 53, 54, 55, etc. until I can transition to island life. Blessings & Slainte' Sue S.

Yelp
BEDBUGS is the only issue (pretty big one) that we had. It's actually disappointing to have to write a negative review since we had an excellent time at this hostel. Not quite as clean as some and a few of the rooms are practically outdoors where the mosquitoes frequent, however some of the other rooms were pleasant. The common area is hard to beat -super inviting and fun. The owner and staff are very friendly and accommodating. You can rent decent quality boards and the surf break is just steps away. The location is prime. BUT we stayed for three nights and had two different rooms. Not sure if one or both had the bedbugs but we definitely got bit...a lot. We tried a couple times to reach the owner but he was unavailable. The assistant manager listened to our issue and saw the bite marks all over my friend's arms, legs, stomach and feet but seemed to be in disbelief/denial that they could possibly have bed bugs. The bites were unmistakable -some in lines, occasionally in clusters, red and very itchy. We stressed how fast they can spread from place to place and that people should not be sleeping in those rooms. His reaction was receptive but we got the feeling action was not going to be taken. We did not receive any communication from the owner after our complaint was submitted. I would advise against sleeping here unless you have no fear of bed bugs -which would be nuts if you do some research about how nasty they are, how they will sneak into your luggage and enter your own home, and how near impossible they are to be rid of. Again, really unfortunate since this would otherwise be an excellent choice.

Gary K.

Yelp
I recently stayed at The Tiki Hale and was very impressed with the concept; it's a re-configured duplex with 4 bunk beds per room. There is a full kitchen and a lovely common area in the backyard. The backyard reminds you that you are in Hawaii with the hand carved statues, tiki torches, outdoor showers and much more. The manager is friendly and very accommodating; apparently he used to be a professional chef and he puts on occasional dinners for the guests and serves pineapple waffles on Wednesday - known as "Waffle Wednesday". To top off the beauty of this place, it's just steps to the beach and there are several restaurants, bars, and shopping in either direction on Front Street. It's a really cool place and I certainly recommend it - ill definitely be coming back! Gary Kramer

Yelp
Reading all the reviews (even the ones not recommended) I was surprised that people would rate this a 5 star hostel. It's a duplex hostel with other houses nearby also being part of this place. The side I stayed on was the quiet side, and the other side was the party side. Super fine with me, but it was weird that the party side kept coming over to use the bathroom. Maybe they were all on the same cycle and when ya gotta go, ya gotta go. The kitchen is stocked and people leave food behind, so it was nice to add to the food we bought. The location is stellar as it is close to Front Street and the beach; I was able to go night swimming a couple of times. Kimo the caretaker is pretty cool, as is Pablo, but some of the girls cleaning the place were pretty snotty and had chips on their shoulders. To quote Tucker Max, "You're not better 'n me!" Also, there was this broke alcoholic staying for free on the sofa inside and outside so it was hard to chill in the morning. All in all it was an okay stay, but I've had way better.

Yelp
Très Bon ...... A wonderful little place on the Ocean , with a beautiful Tiki Garden in the back with over size chairs and soft lighting and hand carved tike Gods all around you . they let you have surfboards , mask and fins all for free... and you are just steps to the sea . the crew is the best of the best had a great time with them very funny and the owner is a French trained Chef ( as a Chef ) let me say the best food I had on Maui was his cooking Pineapple pancakes and Maui coffee was perfect and the Hawaiian B B Q pork was the best meal I had on Maui ..........it's a new Hostels and I understand they are going to add some more rooms that would make it world class

Yelp
I'll give an unbiased opinion. I am a solo traveller, at times I travel with friends, at times for business; I love my 5 star resorts with all the trimmings, as well as well organised hostels. The Tiki Hale hostel is essentially a house, with a kitchen and living room and a back yard. The house is laidback, you can come and go as you please. If you are a solo traveller who is looking for a safe, clean, small and friendly place to stay, just metres from the beach and small shops, this is the place to stay. The bathroom is clean and relatively new, the rooms have basic bunks and lockable storage boxes (which are big enough for two suitcases, bring your own locks if you want to be 100% foolproof). I was there for 4 nights, and I had a peaceful night's sleep (the rooms are airconditioned) and met some great people along the way, who invited me to surfing, a few parties and sunset drinks. The atmosphere is great and laid back, and in the evening's you can usually find someone in the living room to share your adventures with. The price is quite dear for a bunk bed, especially since there is no breakfast included, so this is my only con. I would definitely recommend this for solo travellers, or travellers with friends, and I would stay here 100% next time. The hostel is 50m from a great surf break!

Emer M.

Yelp
Bad custumer service. I would not recommend this place. Called late multiple time wanting to inform them that we're not going to make it because road was closed but no answer so we ended up staying near the airport. They still charged me for the full amount of the reservation and according to the lady (finally she answered) they have to charge because save the space for us, Yes I get that but at least partial of the full reservation. Very rude custumer service.

Yelp
Had an amazing stay here! The people were awesome and diverse. It was the cleanest hostel I have ever seen. Best location ever right on the beach and front street. Surf boards and snorkel gear to borrow. Met great locals and natives there and learned a lot of the history and culture of Hawaii. Made friends from all over the world. Community dinners pretty much nightly. They have 2 seperate sides that come together as one. My favorite part was the outdoor enclosed shower! On Sunday I was showering and there was some beautiful native choir singing powerfully next door.. Best shower ever!! Lol. I never even slept in my bed, there was a hammock out back that I just loved to sleep in! The first night I was there we had a jam session out back that was absofarkinlutely amazing and a few of us shut it down by laying on the beach star gazing. Plenty of parking and walking distance to everything Front st. I grabbed the surf board early one morning and decided to give it a try. Lots of surfers meet up at the break there, so after awhile of seeing me try this old surfer snapped at me to get lower on my board and paddle when the waves come in.. Low and behold the next wave I rode in standing up!!! Awesome! The beach is super quiet and empty late at night, so no one was there to object to late night skinny dipping! Lol. Amazing experience!
