I had heard a lot of good things about Timberline mountain in the last few years, so I was really excited for my first visit. Given the weather in the days preceding our visit, I was really impressed with the conditions on the mountain. The groomers were still in work when the lift opened because of the early morning freeze, so each new run opened in about 15 minute intervals until the entire mountain was open. The high speed, six person lift was amazing. There is an automated gate check prior to loading that allows you to stage the group you are riding with, and approach loading with the correct timing. The lift is very quick to the top. All of the staff we encountered were great, and the lodge is a nice place for a rest and refreshment. We stayed at the Timberline Hotel, which was so convenient - right next to the lift base. The only caution I would throw out would be for beginners on the mountain. Salamander is a very nice run from the top, but it does have a couple steep turns. As a beginner, unloading with 6 people can be intimidating even though it is a nice gradual off ramp. The mid station lift does offer some green runs, but all of these on the lower portion of the mountain combine with, or cross black diamond or blue trails. I wouldn't feel comfortable taking along a beginner and constantly be watching crossing/merging traffic. Just my two cents. Otherwise, this place does live up to the hype. It is a very well run resort with some great terrain to fill a day on the slopes.

Grew up skiing here, and it slowly went downhill with the previous owners, but since new management it’s improved immensely. Awesome skiing experience, and the people are always nice and helpful. The new high speed lift helps with the previous 15-20 minute ride to the top taking it down to now a 5+ minute ride. Under the new ownership, more runs are open since they’ve expanded and kept up snow making. All around, great experience and the first place I recommend to anyone looking for a place to ski.

Not only is this a great place to snowboard at the hospitality and service we received was amazing. While our day didn’t go as planned with a flat tire in the parking lot and then loosing our car keys we still had an amazing day on the slopes. After loosing our keys we then had to wait a few hours after they closed for a locksmith to come and program a new key and then drive 6 hours back home to Dayton. Timberline provided us with a hotel room to stay in temporarily while we waited and even brought us snacks since we couldn’t leave. The selfless service we received was amazing. This was our second time there and we will without a doubt we back

I live in NC but my family is from WV and grew up skiing in the valley so when this place re-opened I was excited to give it a try. We had typical "mid-atlantic" weather while we were there, mid thirties when we arrived the first day, rained 2" the next day and then temperatures dropped into the teens the day we skied. Most of the snow covered roads and areas turned to a complete sheet of ice so I was somewhat concerned about conditions, however TL did a great job of grooming and conditions were a non issue. I did take issue with their grooming plan though, because of the rain, they waited and did a delayed groom on the mountain, but they started East and worked their way West. So when we got to the top of the lift your two options were Salamander and White Lightning. What this resulted in was a lot of intermediate skiers bombing and falling down an overcrowded white lightning, it felt unsafe. I would recommend the resort in the future groom based on trail rating instead of moving north to south based on logistics. The mountain also has a bit of a quirky layout, the trail map is somewhat misleading as the smaller quad does not reach far up the mountain. I believe this leads most beginners to use the main 6 person lift so they can access Salamander which is a really great trail for beginners. Because of this, you probably have about 90% of mountain traffic funneled through this lift, with beginners and experts on the same lift which on other mountains I typically try to avoid. The lift is extremely fast though, so it handles crowds well, and if there were no crowds you could probably do 4 to 6 laps an hour if you wanted. The cafeteria was decent, nothing special but nothing to complain about, the one singing employee cooking hamburgers was entertaining though. They have no facilities or portable restrooms on the summit so your only option is to use the single hole restrooms at the lodge which can form a long line. I would recommend the resort replace those immediately with group restrooms. Single hole restrooms at a busy ski resort is just kind of crazy. Not a huge fan of the pricing, supposed to be a "family" owned place but I don't feel like this is encouraged by their model. No week day or half day lift tickets are sold and there is only a small discount for kids under 12. Probably good for them but bad for a family that takes 1 to 2 trips a year. A family of 4 will likely spend over $600 on lift tickets for two days which is kind of unreal to me. If the pricing was a little less I would probably be less picky on some of the items above. Also, the refusal to join the Indy pass also just kind of rubs me the wrong way. Almost like they feel they are better than the other indendent resorts. Overall, I will still vacation with my family in the valley, but if the snow is good, I'm probably going to stick with Canaan. If the snow is not good, I may or may not ski Timberline.

If your focus is to ski and snowboard (which it normally is if going to a snow resort) then this is the best. One of the fastest lifts on the east coast can fit 6 up. Never long waits. Always decent conditions. Stayed at the hotel and it's fantastic. Minimal and provides all necessities.

I enjoyed the place. They will make snow whenever possible unlike Vail resorts. I wish they had night time skiing from the summit. Night time skiing only covers the bottom half of the mountain and uses the lift that only goes halfway up the mountain. The Ski resort in the middle of nowhere, in a very small town. Food choices are very limited unless you drive 30 minutes or more away to a bigger town. Skiing and hiking is really all you can do here. They sometimes will cancel for weather related things, which leaves you just hiking.

Nice ski West Virginia experience atop a 4000’ peak with 1000’ vertical. This ski mountain is family friendly. I was fortunate to ski on a day it snowed 8” and it was cold. I like snow storms adds that fresh snow topper. But the rest of the fam that doesn’t came out the next day when it was sunny and mid 40s. Ski out condos along the outer trails. Plenty of terrain to enjoy when there is good snow cover January February.

It’s pricey! They don’t offer an option for 3-year-olds to try skiing and see if they like it. If you bring your 3-year-old, and they want to try skiing, you still have to pay over $100 for the ski set and lift ticket, which is ridiculously expensive. Even if they don't use the lift, you still have to pay for it, which doesn't make sense. Aside from that, it’s a fun place for adults and older kids.
