We worked with Jessica at Timbuktu to put together a 14 day private Japan trip which was beyond incredible. Our journey started in Tokyo, and then progressed to Kanazawa, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Matsumaya, Takamatsu, and finally Hakone. We had 13 private guides, all of whom were unique, informative and fun to be around. We also appreciated that all but one of them were women. We were so lucky to have full sun and peak fall foliage in Hakone that provided crystal clear views of Mt Fuji. We were all gobsmacked at the beauty. The Hyatt in Hakone was beyond lovely and the food was the best we had for both breakfast and dinner. Each hotel in all of the cities was beautiful and centrally located. In every city we were overwhelmed by the beautiful gardens, temples, shrines and kindness of the Japanese people.
As far as the itinerary, it was all stunning and much more active than we anticipated, but in a good way. There were a lot of steps and we walked many miles each day. We utilized public transportation in major cities which was easy and fun.
Overall an exceptional trip. The drivers, the guides, the woman who met us at Haneda and walked us to our driver, the man who walked us from our hotel to the train station and to our platform (totally unexpected and he gave us a couple pointers for trains). There were so many details that all came together perfectly. Even though the 3 trains from Takamatsu to Hakone area made for a long day, it was fun to find our way through stations and to cross over the inland Seto Sea by train on the longest double decker bridge in the world. The views were stunning and will not be forgotten. The trip had so many moving pieces that Jessica put together perfectly. We are forever grateful for Jessica at Timbuktu for creating a truly unique and memorable bucket list trip to Japan.
