On the Grid : Antiques and Furniture Store

"Stopping by Park Slope's antiques and furniture store is almost like going to a museum, with a lot of religious art sold by the Prophecies Gallery owner. His antique furniture store is around the corner, on President St off the 5th Ave. The highlight however, is the owner himself, Lenny. Stop by, meet him and hear out his adventurous life stories." - Anna Griniuk

I came across Time Galleries via social media and decided to check them out. The store is quite grand with rows and rows of antique electronics, glassware, furniture, lighting and wall art. They even have a basement full of antique furniture that is open to customers. The woman working the front desk was friendly and helpful. When buying a bigger piece of furniture, you’re given 7 days to come pick it up with proper transportation or you can inquire with their various delivery services available about having it dropped off to your home. Prices are not firm and they are open to negotiation so long as it is fair. Come pick-up day, our item was in the same condition as when I first purchased it and staff helped bring it up the stairs as well as outside to load it into our vehicle. Definitely recommend checking out Time Galleries! They are constantly restocking so there is always new stuff to check out!

Don't skip the lower level where they have items that still need work because there are some good deals down there. Also don't forget to look up or you'll miss the fabulous light fixtures. The vast inventory and the hard working staff are great. If you're not a jerk and make a reasonable offer, there is some wiggle space on the prices. If you're in the neighborhood, even better service, they carried an armoire to my apartment 4 blocks away!

Nice place in a great neighborhood. Big inventory with plenty of interesting stuff

Angel agreed to buy a vintage coffee table from us after communication over the phone, texting and sending multiple pictures of the item. We set up a time to drop it off and agreed on a price. Upon dropping off the table we were told instantly and rather rudely that they would not accept it. After we took the time to transport it ourselves to the store. This lack of professionalism and disrespect for our time leaves us feeling quite negatively about Time Galleries and I’d advise anyone doing business with them in the future to think twice.

Lovely place! Nice curated vintage furniture and home goods. The price here is very reasonable for sturdy quality vintage furniture. Bought a beautiful mirror with ivory color hand carved wood for $300. Will definitely come back

This place has lots of great finds, and really kind people. I got two vintage 1960s bar height chairs in great condition for a great price. They deliver nearby too. Always fun to walk around inside and take it all in!

The amount of things is huge. Furniture, home appliances, dishes, paintings, jewelry and much more.

A lot of my furniture and decor is from Time. These guys always are available to talk about the origins of their finds and negotiate slightly on prices although that's infrequently needed. Highly recommend this place if you're around the Slope area and don't forget there's a fantastic downstairs!

Yelp
I just like the people and the wide variety of items in here. The prices seem a little high, but a really cool variety from furniture, movie posters, and knick-nacks. Just wander in.

Yelp
For someone interested in Antiques, this is a true treasure chest. Sooooo many treasures. I just moved to Brooklyn and looking around for some cheap furniture entered this shop with not much hope. I stayed a long while. Just going around and around and around. Calculating my budget and my space and my budget again. They have great stuff. Lovely mahogany chest of drawers, next to the now stylish again sideboards from the 1960s. Also lovely bed side tables from the 1930s. I fell in love with a Neo-Grecian food stool and had to leave it behind ... heartbroken. I don't need a foot stool, but ohh I so wish I could just buy it anyway.

Yelp
This is THE place to stop in if you're looking for reasonably priced furniture that ain't IKEA, and have the ability to spot a diamond in the rough. My hunch is that here, they shop estate sales with a keen eye for what vintage-minded buyers are looking for, and price their stuff to MOVE. Everyone wins! Our first purchase here was a rad midcentury hutch for our teensy Brooklyn kitchen. We saw it outside, made an offer, and BOOM. It was delivered to our fourth-story walkup that same afternoon. Recently we moved to a larger space in Queens (ahem, the new Brooklyn), and suddenly had a need for a coffee table and chair to fill it, as well as a larger dresser. (You know you live in NYC when having the space for a coffee table feels like an incredible luxury.) Again, we struck gold, with a mint condition cedar chest for a coffee table, a lovely blonde wood midcentury dresser, and a perfectly-broken-in leather armchair with ottoman. All stuff you'd see for sale at twice the price in Williamsburg or on Dot&Bo, but here, they gave us an additional discount because we were buying so many pieces, and they were willing to deliver to our new spot. They've also helped a friend out with a lovely industrial-looking coffee table for his midtown apartment--well-priced, CB2-catalogue-worthy and again, delivered with no muss and fuss. And now we send all of our friends to look there first when they're furnishing a new place. Sometimes it takes some serious combing to find the good stuff in this place (don't neglect the basement -- we found the aforementioned coffee tables down there, with chairs stacked on top). But it's worth it!

Yelp
Bought over $600 of great furniture here and was initially very satisfied with the service. At the time of purchase, the people assisting were friendly and offered delivery for an extra charge. One of the pieces ended up getting damaged in a move (leg of wooden coffee table was broken off) so I called the store to inquire about restoring the piece. In spite of being able to completely describe the damage to the table (dowels had broken at one of the legs and needed to be replaced so leg could be put back on) they told me I would have to bring the table to the store for a quote. I hauled the table down there and, upon site of the damage, they they quoted me a charge ($200) that was double what I had paid when I purchased the table from them. When I noted this and the amount of money I had spent in their store ($600), how much the table had cost initially ($100) and what needed to be done (replace two wooden dowels, put leg back on), they shrugged me off like one may do if they're not feeling the chicken salad their co-worker has offered to share for lunch. When putting the table back into a cab, the driver dropped the table and it broke further and the guys who run the store stood outside pointing and laughing It was a special moment for all. Fortunately, a woodworker friend of mine ended up fixing the table and replacing it's dowels and the rest of the freshly broken bits from the traveling experience for me free of charge. It took him about 45 minutes and the table is restored back to the quality of when I bought it. Basically, Time Galleries has great shit but treat their customers like they are running a racket, which it seems like they are... big surprise in the antique world, I know. I'd rather be trampled by a hoard of Park Slope strollers than do business here again, but that's just me.

Yelp
Remember those special years entering puberty? The long, steamy dreams that you woke up in a pool of some mysterious liquid. At first you bashfully washed the linens in the bathroom sink, hoping no one noticed... then when they started reoccurring, you left them to dry by sleeping without covers well into the winter. Then it happened, that faithful day, you find out where that puddle comes from--more to the point you find out its fun! Not only that, but you find out you can do it with a friend! Hallelujah! Well that blissful light has charged my body again--praise--I was born again, I. am. Born-a-Gay-n! Hallelujah! Who knew antiques where so fun? (Answer: the gays) Well thanks to Time Galleries I can reach that wonderful climax for less money than I've ever thought. Before Time, if you would brought up "antiques" thoughts of middle aged person with an disposable income, not no mo' homo. Now I am filling my apartment with more dead peoples stuff than ever! Thanks Time Galleries!

Yelp
I have been coming here for over 12 years. Some of the items I purchased - 2 gorgeous dressers - one of which is a 'John Widdicomb, 2 chairs, mid century modern dining room table, a wing back chair from the 50's in mint condition. I can't resist milling about both floors when I pass the store. I have the coolest apartment because Time Galleries is fantastic. Half of my apartment is from there. So yeah, I guess I love it!!

Yelp
Yes. This place is no joke. Seriously good furniture, lamps, & art to be found here. Be quick - brisk turnover.

Yelp
Reasonably priced and negotiable. Fair amount of unusual pieces. Large selection and space. Worth a visit, to be sure.

Yelp
Gems live here. They repair in the lower level and showcase pieces outside.
