Time Out Arcade in Ames offers an impressive selection of pinball machines and classic arcade games including a dedicated purpose built star wars room. Staff seemed attentive and happy. The retro decor immerses you in 80s and 90s nostalgia. Their karaoke nights are lively and well-attended. With affordable drinks and a welcoming atmosphere, it's a fantastic spot for both gamers and music enthusiasts. Don't miss if you are in town.

Can definitely tell you it's really nice here. There's fun, themed drinks. There's a counter where it looks like you can buy some retro figures, games, and a whole N64! (Correct me if I'm making assumptions!) Karaoke was a blast to listen to, and it's awesome having a bunch of retro games combined with some "modern" ones. As a heads up, some folks might find it overstimulating on nights like karaoke night, BUT in my opinion it's a good kind of overstimulating, and I won't dock points for a good atmosphere. It's absolutely worth a visit, if anything, for the games.

This is my favorite bar in Ames. The bars I’ve been to in campus town are incredibly loud to the point where you can barely have a conversation and they only play songs that were popular 5-8 years ago. At TimeOut there is so much to do!! the games are affordable and the karaoke is so much fun. The Karaoke competitions feel like a live show with entertaining judges. They also play a variety of music old and new along with music videos to watch while you sip your drinks If you are feeling overstimulated they have a quieter Tim Burton themed room in the back with booths and soft music for ambiance. Seriously such an underrated bar. If you’re a little nerdy like me you need to try this place!!

We had a great team outing at Time Out today. Who doesn't love a little friendly competition over skee ball, mario kart 64, dance dance revolution, or high score on Galaga!?! Lance & Chris are awesome hosts!

I'm not sure why I never stopped here. I love the place! The retro arcade and much more. The food was delicious. They do have a grumpy chef but kill it with the food. Great atmosphere, i can also bring my kids and enjoy a game night. Until 7pm of course 😄

I just went here for the first time, the atmosphere was very chill but extremely fun at the same time. They have plenty of arcade games to play (most of them cost 50 cents per play), and the video game themed drinks are so cool. The Bill and Ted wall is also very cool, I wish I had one of my own I'm definitely going to be coming back regularly.

The front side of the bar has darts and karaoke, lots of seating and a huge bar. The beer selection and drinks are great. They also do cool events like music bingo and Bob Ross painting night. The back is an 80's/90's arcade with retro video games, skee ball, pool table, pop a shot and modern pinball machines. They have app style food that fixed fresh when it's ordered and tasty. There are tv's everywhere that are showing the Gen X videos that correspond to the music you're hearing, or they have a classic movie on (Ghostbusters, Goonies, etc...). This is a really fun, locally owned business!

I do not usually like bars. I had a very fun time here with friends. Coincidentally, it was karaoke night. Even better. They have a great selection of games that are well maintained. The staff are all lovely people, especially whoever’s mom works here. Me, and my quarters, will be back. (Suggestions for games, if more are added in the future: Another air hockey table, Paperboy, and Rhythm Heaven) edit: I forgot to add, it was pretty loud, but I expected that since it’s an arcade bar with karaoke on a Friday night.

Yelp
Last place in the world I would have thought I would have liked. Yes, college kids a sure bet. But me, at 50 something? I felt like a kid the whole time. Played a one on one Pac-Man game, the legendary Skee ball, won a silly stuffed toy and finished by very very badly singing karaoke. The whole time we felt welcomed and laughed like crazy. If you need a fun night out to remind yourself you are still young check out Time Out. If you're the younger generation enjoy and forgive us old folks stopping by every once in awhile.

Yelp
Are we having fun yet? You should be! Stopped here again to get my helping of karaoke singers and pop culture. Street or lot parking. As you walk in, the bar is right in from of you. If you look right the small stage is where you can have the spotlight and sing your heart out. Get in your song choice cause it is hoppin tonight. There is a decent selection of drinks on tap. You can grab your drink and hang or you can make your way around to the other rooms where video games are a plenty. Take your quarters. Grab your drink. Play your hearts desire. Some fantastic old pinball to some more current games. They even have a small kitchen if you get the munchies. If you need to get a shipping fix. There is even a small store that sells unique gifts. The bartenders were on point tonight, and no one was ignored. We all had fun and I really like the place.

Yelp
NEW FAVE ALERT. We brought our kids and had the best afternoon at Time Out. Had some beers and Shirley temples! Ate snacks and won big in the claw machine! I kicked my son's butt at DDR. Feels like the best day of my life. I will be back, Time Out. EVERY TIME I VISIT AMES. This I vow to you.

Yelp
Had an hour and $7 and had a blast! Skee ball, my fave and tons of video games from the 80s. Will for sure go back for Frogger and Donkey Kong.

Yelp
Had to kill some time so looked for something fun to do with my daughter and found this place. The fact that it was a bar made me wonder if it would be kid friendly so I called and talked to them. They said it was for sure kid friendly during the day but later into the evenings it is more of an adult scene. So we went and killed a few hours there and it was a blast! For $30 we had hours of fun. If you are a kid of the 80s and 90s and grew up going to arcades this place has all your favorites. Every time I turned around I was exclaiming "oh, they have hydrothunder" "look! Time Crisis 4" "oh, marvel vs capcom, that was my jam!" And getting to time travel and share that all with my daughter was extra amazing. On top of that they have tons of cool sci-fi and anime stuff including a full size TARDIS! It's like being in the house 14 year old me would have made if I somehow hit the lottery in 1996. It was a blast. Also shout out to the staff, the lady working that day was very nice, helpful, and engaged. This place was great!

Yelp
Great little place near downtown. Hidden gem! Place plays 80's, 90's and early 00's music. Lighting is ever-changing in this place. Full of games to fit any style... pinball, air hockey, pool, pac man and so much more! They've got a full bar for anything g your heart desires. I absolutely love that they carry Sacrilegious Ciderworks cider here!  I had the cotton candy cider, sweet and delicious! They do karaoke at night on Saturdays. They have televisions in every corner and are playing older movies which are great for the ambiance. Food was actually surprisingly very good and much better than typical bar food. The burgers are charbroiled and fries are air fried. No grease here!  The loaded nachos are fabulous and have tons of toppings and cheese. Come on my and try and top my high score on skee-ball!

Yelp
My absolute favorite bar in Ames. And every friend I bring to Time Out, instantly loves it. The atmosphere is fantastic and an all around good time. All of their games are either 25 or 50 cents. Plenty of pinball machines, air hockey, darts, and so much more. Including a stage for karaoke!! They have themed drinks, I love ordering either the slimmer or the princess peach. They also have food by burgers on the fly. Weird things I appreciate: I like how this place uses quarters, not tokens. They have a quarter machine. They also have a hallway for coats, which is incredibly helpful during the winter. And their bathrooms are so clean. I believe in the daytime, they close the bar but keep the arcade open, which is great for the kids. I look forward to visiting again once covid is over because this is literally my favorite bar in Ames.

Yelp
Came home for the first time in 2 years this weekend and went straight to timeout Friday night. It is as great as ever. Cheap shots, super fun games and a very very well run karaoke. I'd highly recommend this place. Maddie and Courtney were amazing bartenders

Yelp
Fun times to be had here. Three rooms of arcade, pinball, darts, basketball, and skeeball to play. There are also private rooms with console games that can be rented out. Beers on tap. Harder stuff for the more thirsty amongst us. Nostalgic music of the 90s playing. Great times.

Yelp
Fun place to play games, unwind and chill with friends. Been here once with colleagues and loved the ambience. Would definitely visit this place again once COVID situation gets normal.(that's the hope right)

Yelp
Totally rad! This place is loaded with every retro arcade game you can think of along with an awesome atmosphere. My husband and I have gone here with friends and for our date nights. Enjoying drinks and playing retro arcade games, a genius idea that everyone can enjoy. You will not be bored here! We just held my husband's 30th birthday here with the family and everyone is still talking about what a cool place it is!

Yelp
I love Time Out. Really great games (pinball, electronic darts, and old school arcade games) and nice staff.
