Tio Dario is a little off the beaten track - adjacent to the lovely Plaza de Yanahuara and thankfully, a bit removed from the congested tourist sector of the Plaza de Armas. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with both indoor and extensive outdoor seating on different terraces with beautiful plants throughout. The atmosphere is relaxed and congenial - the perfect place to enjoy a prolonged Arequipa lunch and drinks with friends and family. And I have not even gotten to the best part, which is the food. This is the very best of Arequipeno and Peruvian cuisine - outstanding Ceviches, Tiraditos, Pescados, Chaufas, Grilled Meats, and all the Ariquipeno classics - Rocoto Relleno, Anticucho, Saltados, etc. I had some Anticucho and Tiradito as an appetizer and a Filete de Pescado (sea bass) al ajo as the main course. All were fabulous and perfectly seasoned. It is refreshing to see a place that puts such care into their food - only the freshest ingredients, seasoned expertly and presented beautifully - while still serving very generous portions. The service is excellent with a very professional and attentive wait staff. To conclude, I have sampled many different restaurants in Arequipa and elsewhere in Peru and I can say without any hesitation that this is the best Peruvian food and the nicest venue of them all. Don't miss it!
