While the garden area of the hostel was quite pleasant, the overall experience was soured by the unwelcoming atmosphere and unprofessional conduct of the staff. The hostel seems to attract a particular type of traveler who don’t engage much with others unless you fit their mold. If you’re not part of that scene, don’t expect warmth or friendliness.
We mostly enjoyed our stay until the final morning. Unfortunately, we overslept and were 30 minutes late to check out of our room. At no point that morning were we reminded of checkout time—only to be abruptly woken by an irate cleaner. Instead of handling the situation calmly, the cleaner berated and pressured one of the reception staff until he issued each of us a fine of 500 Lek. The fine was obviously made up and something we definitely did not agree to while checking in.
Later, when we returned to retrieve an item a friend had accidentally left behind, we were met with a surprisingly hostile attitude from different staff members. They aggressively questioned us on unrelated matters and implied they would not return the item unless we complied, which felt entirely inappropriate and petty.
On top of this, we viewed reception staff letting people in without reservations or proof of stay. I even had to send someone away who wasn’t staying at the hostel who was repeatedly buzzing the door for reception late at night.
Overall, the hostel failed to provide the basic level of hospitality and professionalism you’d expect. I would not recommend it unless your idea of a good time includes unwelcoming vibes and pretentious staff.
