Yelp
Unbelievable Sicilian dishes. Lunch got my group hankerin' for real food, looking for an off the beaten path type resto. The main street in Taormina is loaded with beautiful restaurants, beautiful views, nice place settings.....touristy places. They were empty. Not a good sign so off we went looking for places we loved before.....but have since closed. Sigh. We asked some locals because TripAdvisor was no help with high stars for all places touristy, and we don't do Michelin or Zagat guides. Our antiques store dealer said, Tischi Toschi..... Mochi who?
I perused his website, menu not published..... Curious. We went searching walking, and found TT off the main drag
First we fell in love with the quirkiness of the resto: whimsy yet historic door totems, local art, homey small intimate. We took over. The owner says "Bravi Americani for coming to Sicily. You usually like Roma and the north". We replied, "Dood we're not typical" Loao. "Give us your best dishes". He replied don't worry let me decide for you. But don't be shy, I'll give you a few courses and if you don't like send it back! "Damn I thought". Then came the dishes...... Oh My Don Corleone! We didn't send any back!
The meal:
Caponata- game changer for us. I hate caponata in America. The photo looks as appetizing and scrummy as it was.
Fennel balls- absolutely dahvine, photo desc.
Pasta with sausage- this is what sausage and pasta is in Sicily? Texture, spice, flavor, damn see photo. Un piatto perfetto!
Pasta con carciofi- spicy sexy, hot and tasty
Desserts-- absolutely fresh and light, healthy and simply zenzolicious
We shook our heads the entire meal. We could not fathom why restaurants like Tischi do not exist in America....most Italians are from Sicily in the U.S. of A. We could not believe the quality, the flavors, the authenticity of the meal in this tiny town called Taormina. Everything was 2die4. In the end, the owner brings out glasses, on the house, with his fave digestif Amara. So memorable, so delicious, so genius.
"Bravi i Siciliani....god bless Sicilia!
Loved it.
Coming back.

Tip: A must visit. Some dishes spicy (I do love spicy but caution to those who cannot)
