Why This Region Nicknamed “the California of Europe” Should Be on Your Must-Visit List | Vogue

"Oceanfront and freshly renovated to five-star standards, this makes a perfect base for beach-hopping; after a day in the sun, head to the resort’s Skybar to drink in the view as the sun sets over the Atlantic—but not before enjoying Vale de Covo Beach, an otherworldly sight with crystal-clear water, rock cliffs, and an iconic cave." - Christina Pérez, Lindsay Lambert Day

"Set high on seaside cliffs near the fishing village of Carvoeiro, the Tivoli Carvoeiro Algarve Resort has occupied an enviable spot on Portugal’s sunny southern coast for years. But it wasn’t until its 2018 renovation that this landmark was transformed into one of the region’s largest and most luxurious resorts." - Tablet Hotels

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, always ready to help with a smile. The breakfast was excellent, offering a great variety of fresh and tasty options to start the day. The rooms were spotless, comfortable, and well-maintained, making it easy to relax after a long day. Overall, a fantastic experience—I would definitely stay here again.

What an awesome few days in the Algarve. This is a great hotel and would highly recommend. The rooms are great and the pool area is nice, although i imagine it can get busy in peak season. Also a bit of a shame the private beach area is currently closed off. We were well looked after and all the staff were excellent. We also happened to be there on my wifes birthday and we got cake and champagne delivered to the room and then a cake desert at dinner as well. They even sang happy birthday! Very spoiled. All the restaurants were excellent and the breakfast is sooo good. Didn't get to try the spa but the sauna was great, note you do need to book it. Would definitely go back :)

Another wonderful stay in our favourite place! We return time after time and can’t say enough good things about the hotel. We were sad to see a few familiar faces missing from the staff this time. We hope things remain constant as the staff are pivotal to making the hotel such a welcoming place to be. As regulars to Tivoli Carvoeiro, we are always looking for new things to see and do. We enjoyed the Wine Tasting Experience so much at our last visit, that this time, we thought we would take part in the Mocktail/Cocktail Experience.|We had the best time and would like to say a huge thank you to Andre, our host. It was a true family experience, with my elderly Mum and teenage son. Despite the diversity of our ages, we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and made memories to treasure.|The room was private, was laid out so beautifully and everything was prepared so thoroughly. Each one of us had our own ‘cocktail making station’. Andre was considerate and kind to ensure my elderly Mum had a seat and her own table, to make it more comfortable for her.|We learned so much about all the different drinks. Andre talked us through all the history behind them, the flavours, how to get the best out of them and what works well when mixing (and we got to try them all too!) Andre has exceptional knowledge in his field and he has such a warm, friendly manner, as well as making us laugh so much – a great teacher. |We made some delicious cocktails and mocktails – and they were very much enjoyed!!!|Thank you, Tivoli and extra special thanks to Andre. We can highly recommend this experience, whatever your age! Delightful, fun and great value for money!|Until next time!

It was our first visit to this wonderful hotel, and it absolutely won't be our last - we can't wait to return. We can't rate it highly enough!||From the moment we entered the hotel, the view from reception was just spectacular! |The warm welcoming atmosphere at reception continued throughout our stay, right through to the fireworks display on our last night.|Such a beautiful room and view (deluxe sea view) , with the sound of the waves the amazing backdrop to our most relaxing few days. The entire staff we encountered were gracious, helpful and friendly, with particular praise to all reception staff, housekeeping, Luisa at breakfast and Julia at the bar (a great place to relax in the evening).||Lovely walks around the cliffs and resort of Carvoeiro, hoping the hotel direct beach access returns soon. Nice easy walk to Carvoeiro resort with restaurant Faustinos a highlight.||Level of communication and care at Tivoli was exemplary throughout. |Sincere gratitude and praise to everyone at the hotel. We shall be back for sure!

For a five-star hotel, it is completely unacceptable that even after displaying the “Please Clean” sign, the room remained uncleaned for more than five hours. This alone deserves a one-star rating. The hotel has beautiful views, and while some facilities are a bit outdated, they are still within an acceptable range. The breakfast room offers truly outstanding service—one staff member in particular, a gentleman around 59 years old, clearly loves his job and provides top-tier, professional service that genuinely enhances the guest experience. The rest of the service is generally fine. However, the housekeeping service is extremely poor, and this single issue is serious enough to overshadow all other strengths of the hotel. I went to the front desk at 14:30 to complain and requested that my room be cleaned. However, by 15:00 the room was still not cleaned. When I returned to the front desk, the staff member repeatedly insisted that housekeeping might work until 16:00. This is an unreasonable excuse. If rooms are only cleaned whenever housekeeping feels like it, then what is the purpose of hanging a “Please Clean” sign? What made the situation even worse was her attitude. There was no acknowledgment of the mistake, no apology—only repeated claims that she had “already called” housekeeping. This is extremely disappointing. For a five-star hotel, this level of service is completely unacceptable and deserves a very, very poor rating. What made the situation truly discouraging was the attitude and handling by the front desk staff. I was already very upset, yet instead of calming the guest, she repeatedly emphasized that some rooms are cleaned as late as 4 PM, and that she had “already called” housekeeping. If displaying a “Please Clean” sign gives absolutely no priority and means nothing, then what is the purpose of providing it to guests? This is certainly not the standard of a five-star hotel. At no point did she offer a single word of apology or acknowledge the issue. Instead, she continued to contradict the guest, which made the entire experience even more frustrating. I hope her manager is made aware of this incident (she was working on the afternoon of November 19). I do not wish for her to lose her job, but someone must teach her what proper hospitality service looks like—because, as it stands, she is not suited for the role she is performing.

We stayed for four nights, travelling with Jet2 on a package tour. We had visited The Tivoli in Carvoeiro before but it had undergone a complete renovation since, making it more contemporary. The site is beautiful being situated in a small cove with spectacular views and an idyllic place to be married. The staff were so obliging and always ready to help with our queries. |We had half board which was buffet breakfast and table service for evening dinner. There is indoor or outdoor dining and enclosed flame burners scattered around which reflect in the glass panels on the dining terrace. The quality of food was very good, with varied choices of couvert, starter, mains and sweet and Caroline who served us was so friendly. At breakfast Goncolo was so attentive and so kind. |Reception staff were very helpful including Jose in the dining reception and while booking a table at main reception my husband mentioned it was our Anniversary next day and Mafalda who did the booking arranged for sparkling wine to be delivered to our room along with chocolates. We had such a memorable stay which we will always remember.

Attended a Women's Leadership Retreat to recharge and recalibrate. This resort did not disappoint - the meeting space, yoga on the cliff, views, meals, service, convenience to town and many more. You can either use the service they provide to go downtown or walked along the picturesque coastline-get to the boardwalk and traverse your way while taking in the view. Received a welcome note from a manager w/a fruit & chocolate plate. Professional staff welcomes you immediately upon arrival-ample parking available and if not, valet is available. No disappointment here.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the hotel! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming – we truly felt at home from the moment we arrived. The service was top-notch throughout our stay, and everything was done with a smile and a genuine desire to make our experience perfect.||The hotel’s location is ideal, close to city, beach and attractions making it easy to explore the area. The facilities were modern, clean, and very comfortable – everything from the rooms to the common areas fully lived up to our expectations.||Breakfast was excellent, with a wide selection of fresh and delicious dishes, and the restaurant also deserves great praise for both the quality of the food and the cozy atmosphere.||All in all, a place we can warmly recommend – and one we will definitely visit again!

Yelp
The Tavoli hotel in Carvoeiro, was absolutely amazing. They are breathtaking views from your room as well as the restaurants and pool. The restaurants are very good, including The One, where we feasted on freshly grilled, turbot, had delicious sushi on the rooftop, and Espresso martinis well at the Azul Blue bar. The hotel is located right on the ocean, with the seven Valley trail passing by that can take you to Benigel Caves. We opted to be picked up from the hotel with a stand up paddle boarding adventure into four different caves, including Benigel. We also enjoyed walking into town, a nice massage at their lovely spa and lounging by the pool. Oh, and one more thing - make sure to add the breakfast, the breakfast buffet is amazing, with an omelette bar, waffle bar, fresh, squeezed, orange juice a great spread of meats, cheeses, and pastries. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
This was a wonderful place to stay and in a great location. Easy to walk to town or just to hang out.

Yelp
Came here for a wedding. Perhaps the hotel was booked solid, but we were severely disappointed by our room. There was a fair amount of water damage. The bathroom was super small and since the shower door doesn't extend all the way, it was constantly flooded. We had the dinner buffet while we were here and the food here was extremely subpar. It was also very expensive compared to just walking around town (which is safe and nice) to one of the local restaurants. That being said, we also got the included breakfast and the food was very good there, though the same every day. Another nice touch to the breakfast though was that cava / prosecco was included in the breakfast. The pool area was nice, but we were unable to get a seat and therefore unable to use the pool. Another nice touch was that it was connected to a cool hiking path. To get to the beach was maybe a 10 minute walk. It was a similar walk to get to town. Overall, I feel like the room situation was not good enough that I would ever consider returning to this hotel.

Yelp
We. Hose to stay at the Tivoli for our honeymoon after being married in Sintra. It is stunningly beautiful and well situated amongst the town of Carvoeiro as well as the nearby Marinha beach , one of the top 20 most scenic beaches of the world ! It is rated 5 star but if you are from America don't expect the same rating system - Service is extremely slow - albeit mostly friendly ... Americans are used to "air con" but that is also not at the level Americans expect ... the caves , cliffs and cuisine however make up for the small service issues. Definitely would revisit ...

Yelp
Excellent service! We booked a standard room towards 2nd half of November which is considered a low season, the whole resort felt kind of empty but service did not fall short at all. All the staff we interacted with were extremely welcoming, offered more than we asked for and all had great positive attitudes. I used American Express Platinum card to book the room and for that reason we were upgraded to 5th floor (same floor as lobby) room directly facing the iconic cave and the swimming pool with a balcony, the view was amazing! We even saw sunrise from the room and it's breathtaking. Also because of AMEX we were given $100USD credit to spend at the resort which was a nice treat. The room was clean and new, bathroom was big with a floor to ceiling glass looking the ocean, and the location was perfect to walk to nearby famous beaches and only 10 mins walk away to the small downtown with lots of shops. I'm going to stay at this resort again when I have chance to visit the area next time!

Yelp
We stayed here for 3 nights in October 2019 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Unsatisfied with the first room (low floor, not great view, 2 double beds instead of one queen) we were able to get a much better room without too much inconvenience (both rooms were the same category of rooms). The bed was very comfortable, but the absolute best part of the room is the terrace with that amazing view. The terrace restaurant and roof top bars are also great places for a drink or nosh, but your own terrace is honestly just as good. The pool was nice, especially if you are not a fan of ocean swimming as the surf can be a bit rough. Breakfast every morning was very good and a great reason to stay here. The buffet was endless with lots of high-end options, and the dinning room is very pleasant with good views. For beach access you really do need to go into Carvoeiro, which is a 10/15 minute walk. The town has lots of restaurants for lunch and dinner options, bars, and touristy souvenir shops. There is also a very nice boardwalk along the cliffs. One reason we stayed here was it is a little remote but also kind of in the middle of the region, so it was a good location to be based out of.

Yelp
There is nothing luxurious about this place. Rooms are not nice, service is average and food is absolutely disgusting. Our child as well as my husband both got sick after eating the breakfast buffet. Don't waste your money. Oh and we left something in the room and realized within 2 hours after Checking out and when we called they denied having it even though I'm 100% sure we left it on the bed. - It was our baby's sleep sack that she can't sleep without. Never again.

Yelp
We stayed there in 2016 prior to the much-needed renovation and returned in September, 2018. The needed renovations were mostly in the rooms, which used to have "your grandmother's" décor. They are much nicer indeed. Aside from that, most of the changes were in layout of the lobby, where breakfast is served and the addition of the rooftop Sky Bar. That said, for a hotel that is essentially US$300+ for a decent room, we were very disappointed. * Let's start with room problems: o The DeLonghi pod coffee pot didn't work. o Multiple light bulbs were out. o There are a lot of light switches by the night stand but none are labeled and two killed all lights or the switches/wiring is faulty. o The bathroom is an open plan shower but there are no bath mats. o Laminate on the door frame in the bathroom was already peeling off. o There are not enough racks and shelf space in the shower. Nor is there a fan. o The towel rack was already coming of the wall. o The shower is overhead, not wall mounted. The optional hand held shower dispenser didn't have a wall mount to secure it. * Outside the room: o There is not a concierge desk and no stand with information for tourists. You have to wait in line at the front desk to get any and all information, including requesting taxis. o Azur Bar: The young servers are incredibly slow. I asked one for the check out on the patio and he told me to go inside to get it from the bartender. o Mare Bistro (poolside restaurant): Sadly, after the renovation, it has the same shit hours and doesn't open early yet closes early. I went down on Sunday morning and they didn't open until 11AM. It closes at 6 or 7PM. No morning coffee or sunset cocktails for you. o Speaking of coffee, there is no where to get coffee in the hotel in the morning without going to the breakfast café. Even in there, where there is a breakfast buffet, there is no self-serve coffee station. You have to wait to be served coffee at your table. o There is no newsstand, gift shop, anything to buy anything, whether it be a newspaper, toothbrush, or, again, a cup of coffee. o The included breakfast buffet includes much less options than before the renovation when the breakfast was downstairs. On top of that, the quality has decreased. The scrambled eggs and "bacon" were horrible. There was no cold milk available to drink, only warm sitting out for cereal. o As we were checking out very early, we ordered a private car hire from the front desk the night before. We were offered a boxed breakfast to take with us since we would miss the buffet. Upon checkout, they had no record of our boxed breakfast request. * The pool and access to the beach: o The pool decking and furniture looks much nicer after the renovation. o Access to Praia de Vale Covo is not the hotel's responsibility, but they need to get the municipality to fix the railings and steps down to the beach. It's very dangerous now. The thing about this Tivoli property is that they have the view, a view that not many other properties in the Algarve can offer. But they need to get it together and make it worth the US$300 a night for more than the view. I will be looking for alternatives, sadly, for our next trip to the Algarve after this visit.
