Great ticket price and great follow up show (the Great Gatsby). Apox 1 hour in line, but great options were still available and we got amazing seats for 4 next to each other.

The staff here are absolutely wonderful, super nice, friendly, and genuinely passionate about theatre. They chatted with us and helped us decide which play or musical to watch, making the whole experience so much fun. A special shoutout to Chance, who took the time to talk with us in detail. He explained how each show differs and gave thoughtful recommendations based on the plays we’ve already seen. His insights were spot on, even down to the best seats in the theatre and little things to watch out for during the performance. 10, 10, 10 across the board! Tips: if you bring your previous tix you bought with them (must be paper tickets as shown in pic), you will be able to use the fast track lane for your next purchases.

A very good place to purchase good tickets at a reduced price. I've used their service many times and have always been very happy. The staff are crazy busy and do a great job ... but don't go up to the window if you have no idea what you want. The place is too busy for you to tie up a window while you think things over. Read the displays, decide what you want to see and they will save you a bunch of money. The Theatre Development Fund operates the booth to make theatre accessible to more people.

TKTS is a great place to buy tickets to Broadway shows. It's been in this location in Times Square for as long as I can remember. On this visit, the line was long, but I was still able to get a ticket to the show that I wanted to see, and it was in a small theatre.

Same day tickets! You can purchase matinee tickets the day before. Not all tickets are half off, but discounted and the best prices available. On the weekends, the lines can be long (1-2 hours). Avoid counterfeits on the street, and support the arts by getting tickets here.

So glad we stumbled upon TKTS! Our first time seeing a Broadway show and ran into some sticker shock when initially going to book tickets. The staff was very helpful - we wanted to see Stranger Things, they gave us seat suggestions and told us to arrive early the next day to make sure we got tickets before it sold out. It opens at 11am so we showed up at 10:30. Line fills up fast. We got the exact seats we wanted for $60/ticket less than if we bought them directly online. While you're waiting in line, they advise you to have a couple back up shows incase one sells out. I recommend getting in line early. BTW, Stranger Things blew our minds. Hands down made me a Broadway theater fan. We saw it last week and are still asking ourselves "how did they do that?!"

I pity the people that don't know about this place. This is THE spot to get discounted tickets to current Broadway and off Broadway shows, both evenings and matinees. Sure, you wait in line outside, but to save 50% off box office prices, you can suffer a little. Forget the people that are offering you discounts on the street. Go here!!

Really smooth experience buying tickets. The website was easy to use, prices were clear, and checkout was quick with no issues. Tickets arrived promptly and everything worked perfectly on the day.

I came on around 5pm on a Thursday - absolutely perfect time! I queued for about five minutes only. I checked the website in advance to see what they had tickets to. I was able to score a ticket to ART with James Corden, Neil Patrick Harris and Bobby Cannavale (HIGHLY recommend the show!). Now, I don't know if this is typical: but I was offered two seats by the TKTS salesperson -- one was in mezzanine and one was in the orchestra. Maybe I could have asked if there were others? Like, other seats in the section? Maybe they tried to sell me the highest price seat in the section? Regardless, I'm happy I was able to get a ticket same day that was slightly discounted. 2025: 57/100

The TKTS booth is on a triangular block in the center of Times Square. They open at 11:00 AM selling discounted tickets for left over seats at today's Broadway & Off Broadway theater performances. We view the board listing performances available for the day. When we get up to the window we look at the theater's seating chart & make our purchase. All TKTS locations accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express & Discover cards, cash and TKTS gift certificates. A handful of Off-Broadway shows require cash only. All tickets include a $7 per ticket service charge, which helps support other TDF services. They now offer a fast past, frequent shoppers get priority service. If you show a TKTS Patron Service Rep your TKTS ticket purchased within the past 7 days you can go on a quicker line. We stood on line for ;75 minutes.

Got here on a Monday and it opens right at 3pm. If you're really wanting good tickets get here earlier than 3pm to secure a good spot in line. Me and my go dip off 5 thought it wouldn't be so bad on a random Monday and got there at 4pm. The line wasn't THAT bad but much longer than we expected. So expect that it will be busy no matter what day of the week it is. The line moved very quick and the staff outside were all super nice and knowledgeable about all the shows. The tickets were a really good price and we had great seats!!

If you want to be a real New Yawker, first off, don't be a schmuck and pay full price for Broadway theater tickets. Sure, Clooney and Denzel can sell the joint out at $900 a clip for their short-run vanity projects but if you're in the mood for a solid drama or musical there's the TKTS booth in Times Square that sells day of seating anywhere from 30-50 percent off the box office price. I'm a drama guy in a world that loves musicals so I always have a full choice menu. You may have to wait 30 minutes (the drama line moves much faster than the musical line) and it sucks in the dead of winter but the way I look at it I've just paid (almost) for my after show dinner. So you want to be a real New Yawker...? Five solid stars.

Decided to get last minute Moulin Rouge tickets for me and my wife and absolutely worth the 15 minutes waiting in line for saving 50% off the price for Orchestra seats. Staff are friendly and fast service. The TKTS is conveniently located at Times Square.

The TKTS Times Square location sells discounted tickets for broadway musical shows and off-broadway art performances, and they don't have all the shows on sale. It's usually 20%~50% discount off the original prices, and I think this ticket place only works out if they happen to offer the show you would like to see.

I was in town and watched broadway shows. A family member suggested to try to line up here to grab last minute deals. True enough, it was such an easy experience. We got there at 9am and ticket booths open at 10:30am. It was a wait but we were second in line so no complaints there. If you want to grab the best seats in the house for last minute filler seats, do this when you come to nyc

TKTS is the place to visit if you want tickets to Broadway musicals at a discounted rate. The line was very long, but it was worth it! We got tickets to Hadestown at $69.75 each, which was a great deal, 50% off the regular price! The show was sold out, so we were only able to get single tickets that were on opposite sides of the theatre. Tickets were available for same day shows only, but there were many different shows to choose from. We waited about 1 hour in the rain. The line was super long, but it moved at a decent pace. The trick is to come early, so you spend less time waiting in line. We didn't get there until around noon.

Great for Broadway; DON'T BUY OTHER TICKETS Tkts was great! I went on a Sunday and Monday afternoon around 2pm and there was no line either time. The vendors will take their time to talk to you and tell you about the different show times. They are definitely knowledgeable! I saw MJ, the Michael Jackson musical for $100 and it was an awesome show! I went back the next day (Monday), but there were limited options as most shows take a break on Mondays. Instead, the vendor talked me in to buying a ticket for a comedy show at Broadway comedy club. AVOID THIS! The Broadway comedy club is not the best use of your time or money. There are better experiences in the city!

Theater tickets at a discount for same day or next day matinee shows. We bought tickets for half price the cost online at Ticketmaster. The seats were 7 rows from the front. Paul was our ticket agent & he was great!

Always liked TKTS when I worked in the city for day of show tickets at a great price. Still selling and with a new sales office under some stairs built for the tourists. The people who try to hand you bus tour information are annoying. Seems they are everywhere and have become assertive. Use to just stand passively but now they wave flyers in front of your face.

We have been lucky over the years to score some heavily discounted tickets at TKTS Times Square over the years. From Finding Neverland to Newsies to Beautiful:The Carole King Musical, we have seen a lot of different shows. So easy to look up what's available and luckily, we have never had to wait more than 15 to 20 minutes to get to the ticket box. The headline Broadway or Disney musicals, like Hamilton, Aladdin or Lion King, are not usually available, but there is usually a wide selection of available same day tickets for other shows. Our most recent tickets to Jersey Boys were discounted to $60 and the view was perfect in the intimate New World Stages Theater. They checked to make sure that our COVID vaccines were up to date and collected information for contract tracing when we bought our tickets. Masks were required during the performance. Great place to get a deal on last minute half priced theater and musical tickets. Hope to be able to see Caroline, or Change next time we are in NYC. I was at Time Square and suddenly decided to watch a Broadway show. I was told to come here for cheap discounted tickets. I was also told that they have the best seats available. I know there are other platforms or websites that offer cheap tickets like tix.com or lottery ticket websites. However, if you get it from those sites, the prices of those tickets are reflected on the seats location. Yes, they are mostly balcony seats. I paid around $87 Usd for a side orchestra left seats and I have to say the seat was not bad. It was 40% off the ticket price from what I was told and on top, the ticket came from Ticketmasters. The ticket was for the Broadway show Aladdin. The show was awesome. Note that Tkts doesn't have some of the super popular shows like The Lion King and etc. They do have a screen outside showing the shows available so you can base it on that to determine if you want to join the line or not. If the line looks long don't worry it moves super fast. I was probably in line for 10 mins max. Great deal to buy it here especially if you are like me and doesn't want to plan it ahead of time.

Love this place to get the best discount tickets on Broadway. Yes, the wait times can be long and there are people that are trying to hustle you. However, if you need tickets to a performance pretty quickly for not outrageous prices, this is the spot to go. Once, I ended up getting Aladdin tickets that were great Orchestra seats. Another time, I ended up last second tickets to Hamlet (Yes, I got to see the famous Daniel Craig front and center) for only $90. The thing is this place is a hit or miss. The trick is to have a few shows you want to see and go in with an open mind. One or two of them will probably be sold out. They open at 11 for the same day matinee tickets and start selling tickets for the evening shows at 1. You need to be in line much earlier. The tickets are discounted and usually great seats. We paid $141.20 for & Juliet which sell for $312.00. Great show, great seats.

Amazing!! The lady was helping me at the ticket booth was really nice. And a shout out to the employees walking around handing out flyers they will answer all your questions regarding to the shows. Everyone was so nice and friendly!! I got to watch my favorite show " Harry Potter" it was phenomenon beyond my expectations!! It was my first trip to NYC i had a great experience and it won't be my last :)

TKTS is the place to get tickets. Amazing prices (up to 50% off) and great seats. If the shows you want to see are there, you can't beat it! They even allow you to buy the matinee & evening performances and even next day matinee at both TKTS locations now. Awesome! Plus, there's a return fast pass line for those who already purchased tickets there within the week, I think. Not sure of the timeframe, since my trips are never that long.

We can't recommend TKTS enough!!!! This is our third time using TKTS in the past 20 years since their inception. We were able to save 50% on Into the Woods tickets and at a cost of $440 discount!

How do people give this any less than 5 stars? You can get tickets to great shows at a huge discount. Yes there is a long line, but that's the price of the discount (and the line moves pretty quickly). There's even an app where you can view what's on the board before heading out there. Yes it's annoyingly in the middle of busy Times Square, but that's also close to where all the theaters are. The existence of TKTS always makes me feel a little bad for ever purchasing tickets at full price, but if there's a certain show you definitely want to see or a certain day you definitely want to see a show, you are better off paying full price and making reservations in advance. Also note the service fee is $7 per ticket, which is much lower than say Ticketmaster would charge you online.

It's a decent service but you have to do your homework. Also, be very alert. This is a high volume business with lots of tourists in a compacted space that is crowded and noisy. 1) Make sure you know at what time they will open. Lines start to form one hour prior. 2) Not all plays are available. Download their app and have a wish list ready. They also have a board on site for you to see the available plays. 3) Don't settle for the first option given for a specific play. They probably have cheaper tickets. 4) This place is a Magnet for pick pockets. Check your cell, wallet, etc and guard them at all times. Particularly when you are getting ready to make the transaction. Make sure you leave with your card and tickets. Check your change. 5) Read the reviews of the plays before going there. You will face a number of folks trying to sell you their play. They are nice people working, so be courteous, but they are selling. Once in the booth, they expect you to buy quickly and leave, not to give you the run down of who is who or summarize the latest Tony awards for you. It's a high volume, highly transactional place. 6) Enjoy the play! (and post a review maybe?)

When you're on travel by yourself and want to go see a broadway show at a great price, this is the place to go. Was a Saturday and got in line around 1pm hoping to get tickets for an 8pm show. I wasn't too picky on what I wanted to see, but I had a list in my head on what I was willing to pay and what I wanted to see. The line does move, although slowly, but as I was getting closer to the front, I was realizing that I could possibly see a 2pm matinee! I finally reached the ticket window about 1:50pm and was able to get a single seat to see The Whiz that started at 2pm. Price of my ticket came to about $125 and that included the service fee. Because the theater The Whiz was playing in was 1 block away, I raced to the theater, made it in time with about 5 minutes to spare! 3rd row center seat, you can't get better than that for a single ticket. I know the cost of this ticket if purchased through the regular box office would have cost me almost $300. So glad I was able to go. Fantastic show and loved seeing Wayne Brady as the Wizard as well!

On Sundays performances start at either 2:00pm or 3:00pm. The line is long. As the line progresses you will be greeted by many "barkers" hawking the show they represent. I get it they are trying to sell tickets to the shows they rep. The line moves slowly and to each of those "barkers" the question I asked was: Is there a separate line for the 2pm show and one for the 3pm show. The answer from all, was no. At that I said to each one.. wouldn't it make sense on a Sunday when there are two separate start times to have two separate lines? To some it was like a lightbulb went off. As the line inched forward 1:47pm, 1:53pm, 1:59pm, 2:04 i make it to the window. Sweeney Todd at please. The answer... we don't sell tickets after the start time of a show. I reply... well that sucks.. the line moved so slow and now I can't get a ticket. I brought up the point again of the two separate lines on a SUNDAY and she looks at me with a blank look and said, yeah no. Having lived a few blocks from TKTS for years in the years past the attendants would usher several people single file to each window thus making the line move quicker and selling out the show's people stood in line for. My response to the attendant as i stepped back was too bad there are not two separate lines on a Sunday by not doing so you are stopping theatres by not selling tickets and in some cases perhaps causing a show to close early. A bit far fetched but not too totally unreal. Via Broadway.

We came here in the fall and only had to wait about 30 minutes to get tickets in the early afternoon. We were able to get aisle seats for two productions at 40% off the face value of the tickets. Staff at the booth were very friendly and helped us decide which tickets to pick. I also like the theater staff that are walking along the lines helping everyone decide which shows to buy.

I only purchased tickets here once. It was a day much like today. Very cold. By the time I waited in line I couldn't feel my feet. I vowed never to stand in line again. I've purchased at the box office the day of a show and made out fine. Also in this day and age there's too many discount websites. If I want to see a show I research the theater before hand. You can get a nice seat with an unobstructed view and see fine in the balcony. When you're too close everyone has there head in your view. My advice is go fight the Times Square Tourist Scene and buy your tickets while outdoors in the elements. I hope you get the price you want. That cold day we bought tickets, the show we ended up seeing was so bad it closed a couple weeks later!

We like the Lincoln Center location better. There is no "fast pass lane". However, it's indoors and no rude people smoking all sorts of stuff and bumping into you in Times Square. If you do go here make sure you save tickets from your show. You can get a "fast pass" and get in front of line. Just hang out by front ticket windows and they will form a fast pass line. Cheers !!

This service provides a great opportunity to score last minute theatre tickets at discounted prices but there are thing you need to be aware of: The employees that are there represent different theaters and they are promoting for them so don't go by their recommendations, know what you want to see. What is showing as available on the display board may not be when you get to the tick counter....the good shows sell out quickly. The line looks longer than it is; Plan in about a 30-40min wait during peak times.

I'm a NYC local who's never used TKTS. I've always done lottery (the perks of living in NYC and being able to go to a Broadway show anytime). However, due to COVID-19 (no lottery yet) and since I was staying at a hotel nearby for work, I decided to check out the deals at TKTS. The tickets were all 50% off and usually just for the day of so good if you're a last minute person who doesn't plan (not me but you only live once!). We chose Chicago since I haven't seen it in years and it's one of the cheaper shows. The line looked long but we only waited like 15 minutes. The staff were really friendly and super efficient. The staff do inform you that you need to show your COVID-19 vaccination card for the show and ask you to complete a contact tracing card. We paid $50 a ticket which wasn't bad. I think I would use TKTS only if I'm feeling spontaneous which is not very often.

When you learn the history of TDF and TKTS and how part of their mission was to expand access to shows by people who are disabled it's ironic that they completely shut out people in wheelchairs. Went there hoping to get tickets to basically ANY show only to find they don't have any options for wheelchair users. So while everyone around us paid $45 to see a show last minute we had to pay $80 (per ticket over five tickets so our punishment for having the gall to want to see a show in a wheelchair was a bill hundreds more than they did).

So helpful. We got in line around 3:00 and we're out by 4:00 with affordable tickets to the Book of Mormon. The line felt like it would be really long but it moved quickly. Super helpful if you don't have the $$ to spend on normal tickets. Go in with and open mind to see any show and know what you want when you hit the box office.

Great deal. Arrived at around 10:20am on a Wednesday and they opened promptly at 11am. I was about 50th in line, but was buying my ticket within 5 mins of it opening. Great staff, walking around with questions and also requesting "contact tracing" info, which I thought was great. They also confirm, before payment, that you have your Vax card and matching ID. I didn't know this, but bonus. If you come back within 7 days after you buy a ticket, you can do it again and go, right to the front of the line! That's pretty cool. Anyway...great deals, nice and helpful staff, and efficient operations.

I'm not sure why I'd never bought from TKTS until last weekend, but I'll definitely be back. They sell discounted same day tickets (or you can get next day for matinees) to the Broadway shows. Obviously what you can get depends on availability... if a show sells out early, you probably won't find tickets there... but they had tickets available for most of the shows that are playing, and they more seats than you could find trying to buy the tickets online. While I technically had to get in a line, they had several ticket windows open and got people through quickly, so by the time I'd gotten in line, I was already next up for tickets. This was Easter weekend, not a random Tuesday, so while I'm sure they have busier moments, I don't think it was a rare fluke. I asked what they had for two tickets together for Come From Away. The ticket agent told me that there were a few options but that he thought the best were two tickets in the second row, if we didn't mind being close. He told me the price, and all-in the tickets were five or so dollars less than the cheapest ones advertised online would have been before the online service charges (which, for Broadway shows, can be steep), and those online ones had obstructed views. I assumed that the seats would be all the way off in the corner or something, but took them since I was grateful to get affordable tickets on short notice. They weren't. They were next to the aisle of the middle section (so, off towards the stage left side, but right in front of the stage)... With the bonus legroom from not having a seat in front of me, I felt like I might have had the best seat in the house. Glancing around the theater after I got there, it looked like they ultimately sold out that show, too. If you're making a special trip to New York for a particular show or if there's a show you must see on a particular day, it's obviously wise to book further in advance. But, if you're looking for some last minute entertainment, or if you're flexible about which show you see, TKTS is fantastic. I love Broadway shows, and I visit New York frequently, but not FOR the shows and not always with a ton of advanced notice, so I'm looking forward to using their service many times in the future.

Got helpful service and great seats for our first choice show, for an excellent price. Previously we looked for tix and TKTS was not yet open so we tried 'Broadway Discount Tickets' across the street, big mistake. Overpaid for lousy seats :( Stick with the known name in discount tix.

TKTS is a non profit organization that helps ensure that theater is available to everyone who lives in or visits New York City. It's a model for organizations around the world that want to ensure current and future generations of arts lovers. There are several locations around the city: 1: Times Square (main location) 2: Brooklyn 3. Lincoln Center 4. South St Seaport I have been to all but Brooklyn. While Times Square is the busiest, it has a plays only line. I tend to see more plays than musicals, so this is a fantastic feature for folks like me. The Seaport sells next day tickets, which is nice for those of us visiting from outside the metro area. However, it's a schlep downtown and may not make sense depending on where you are staying or reside and/or what your plans are for the day. I highly recommend this treasure. You can save up to 50% off tickets! Not all shows may be available but the live feed on their website can give you a sense of what to expect when you plan to visit. I always stalk it a week before I plan to buy tickets. I want to see what is trending that entire week, as it can differ widely day to day. You may not get to chose your seats but everyone should experience the great white way at least once. If you are able to afford discounted tickets, this is the best place to find them! Enjoy the show!

These booths are an absolute NY staple. I'm a local- and whether for myself our others visiting-always recommend the red tkt booths. You can get good seats for a fraction of the price. We spent an entire day in the city. Arrived to Times Square around 5pm. Was able to secure tickets for family to see The Phantom of the Opera. Scored orchestra seats, literally in the 8th row-smack in the middle. My family was so impressed! Nothing like seeing the joy on their face as the show started. Was looking for last minute Hadestown tickets but came away with Chicago tickets instead. Medi was very patient and helpful but getting 3 tickets seated together for that evening was too much to ask. Lines were nice and short. Got 6 bettlejuice tickets for cheaper than normal. The buying process is really fast

SERVICE: lines are like the airport or Disneyland where they snake in parallel lines, and there are staff members directing you to where to go. Staff is also there to answer any questions you might have. I think asking them questions helps their day go by faster so if you have questions feel free to ask them. Seems like they've seen most of the shows or at least know a good idea of what each show is about to answer any questions you have. LINES: yes the lines look LONG, but don't be discouraged, the lines move fast, once you get to the front there are 10 ticket windows, and they work fast to line you up in each one, and at the window they are efficient and fast to get you what you want. It's almost like the soup kitchen on Seinfeld where you gotta know what you want, say what you want, buy what you want, and get out of there and move on. Both times I've done tickets here it was a 30 min wait...not bad. Look for the red stairs in the middle of Times Square. You can walk up the stairs and hang out there to get a good panoramic view of Times Square. HOW?: there is a sign with red digital lettering that tells you what is available, but honestly don't wait until you get to the front to look at it. Look online or download the app then delete it later when you don't need it anymore after your visit to NYC. You can favorite what shows you like so you have it ready when you get to the window. Pick at least top 3 shows you're okay with seeing in case the top one you want is sold out. TICKETS: you wait in line for the SAME day tickets. If you want matinee tickets then you wait in the morning line up until 2pm. If you want night tickets, then you wait from 3pm+. You can line up ahead of time. I trust that they offer me the best seats and just say yes ok and pay. Double check your tickets before you walk too far away. SHOWS: I've seen Spiderman and Chicago by doing TKTS. Chicago was 2 tickets for $151 for Orchestra level seats. They have had shows like Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Jersey Boys, Mama Mia, Cinderella, and so many more.

It was so great to come back here for discounted show. The booth opened at 11am. I got there around 10:30am. Once the booth opened, only took me under 20 min to purchase my ticket. Ton of staffs walking around to educate us from show feedback and scan code to what is available that day.

A must see and experience when you go to New York City. Super cool, especially at night. Just don't make it your everything to do...there is so much more to do and see in New York. Just be careful and cautious. Try out some jazz clubs, super cool. You can sleep when you go home. Once you have experienced New York City start making plans to visit Chicago.

Flying cross country to New York, my arrival time was scheduled for 5:00p on a Friday night. Too much risk to buy tickets in advance in case of travel delays or traffic getting into the city. But I arrived early and was dying to see a show that night. Unfortunately my first few choices were sold out (no Hugh Jackman, Daniel Craig or Jude Law for me). But, my TKTS experience was a breeze. Located in the heart of Times Square, the line looked intimidatingly long, but moved very quickly. It is incredibly important to (a) have a few shows picked out in advance and (b) check the display boards to see what is available that night. The entire transaction was efficient, my show tickets were 50% off and they accepted a charge card. I'd absolutely use them again.

TKTS Discount Booths offer tickets to Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays at up to 50% off. With dozens of productions on sale every day, there's something for everyone! It's a great way to see a Broadway show, but the lines for tickets can be very long, especially during the tourist season. There's another branch of TKTS down by South Street Seaport that, while not as flashy looking, is usually a lot less crowded.

Everyone always says Broadway plays are expensive, but you can definitely save money if you're not picky about shows by buying from TKTS. Located underneath the red stairs, there's a marquee that shows which shows you can get tickets to, how much is the discount, and what time it starts. The line situation is definitely crazy with people harassing you to see their show and people spilling over into the next lane. However, it's totally worth it when you get a steep discount for the play! I saw Jersey Boys with my friend for $60 each and I had a blast! I was in the orchestra section which could've definitely been more money if I didn't buy the discounted ticket. If you're a tourist, definitely make sure to buy from here!

If you're looking for discount tickets to an "older" Broadway show, this is the place to go! Tickets will typically be 50% off. For a 7:00PM show on a Tuesday, this booth opened up at 2:00PM so we lined up around 1:30PM and got to the front at about 2:15PM. If you're trying to go to a "newer older" show, I'd show up earlier than 1:30PM. TKTS is a surefire way to get some show tickets--don't fall victim to strangers selling you something fake! Also, beware of annoying promoters trying to hand you things you don't want to take. Good luck!

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR TICKETS AND KNOW THE SEATING OF THE SHOW Our seller/cashier said our tickets were center Orchestra, 17th row on the aisle. We paid $208 for two tickets to the show "Beautiful". Arrived at the theater and told we were seated in the front row all the way on the right side. Normally this is ok but our view of the lead star was blocked as she played the piano. The guy selling the tickets just said whatever he wanted to say to move you along fast so he could get to the next victim. I would buy same day tickets again but ask to see a seating chart before paying for the ticket.
