Google
Hidden gem of Perth. Hidden in a back street Toastface made the most amazing toasties I've ever had. Well worth a visit and would recommend as it's very reasonably priced. Great hot chocolate too.

Google
a hidden gem in Perth CBD area - awesome atmosphere with great vibe, and the music played is always so good. pretty wide range for their toast, and the coffee is surprisingly amazing. its always very friendly staff here.

Google
definitely a must try if you’re in perth. the smell of grill welcomes you at the door in the alley. my first time trying toast with paprika. awesome 👍🏼 a pity the beef toast is only available at noon

Google
Perfect for my breakfast..! Breakfast on the go! The price are reasonable as well! The sandwiches 🥪 are fantastic, go and gige it a try.. I’ve ordered cheese & another one pear 👌🏼👍🏾 love it.. most of their customers are locals.. the place quite small but easy to get table coz most of the customers only take away 👌🏼⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ definitely will come again!!

Google
Was looking for a quick & easy brekky place around the Perth area and saw some good reviews for this place. They were not wrong. Simple but creative menu. Easy atmosphere. Friendly staff and quick service. Something as simple as a toasted sandwich when done right is great any time and really who doesn't love a toasty! Will definitely be back every time im in Perth

Ronald J

Google
A small shop, hidden at the back lanes of the city that serves great toast. Staff are friendly, the toast was crunchy on the outside but juicy on the inside. Even the coffee was great. Not much place to sit down.

Ming

Google
Awesome place for breakfast. They serve mean toasts and coffee. The shop is at the corner of an alley. Friendly service. Shop setup was pretty cool and chill.

Y NIL

Google
Small cafe but serves quality toast. Came here on a Saturday and it was busy. But the freshly toasted toasts served were hot and crispy without much waiting.

Stanley L.

Yelp
It is permanently closed. What a disappointment!!!! Must be due to the POOR economy. Sooooooo sad, SOB!

Teresa V.

Yelp
I was disappointed because I really looked forward to eating here considering the rave reviews. The ambience is retro chic but that's about all that this place offers. All the sandwiches are pre-made and they only toast/melt when order. I forgot which sandwich I got but the amount of mushrooms was little and honestly, for a cheesy sandwich, the cheese definitely didn't stand out but instead it was the rosemary bread - I thought it was too overwhelming. The overall sandwich was mediocre

Donna D.

Yelp
With people of all walks coming and going all for these tasty sandwiches, aren't you slightly curious to know why? I sure was, and I knew I had to pay Toastface Grillah a visit while in Perth. The reviews say it all. A little grimy looking, down an lane way, graffiti marking up everywhere, even an abstract wine glass piece in one of the alleyways. It's a one room inside and seats with dirty looking cushions and throws are outside. Everything looks so makeshift, and thrown together with odd ends, but it works. The hip hop music fits all the vibes here. Seriously, it's hard choosing any toastie to commit to, they all look so yummy. After scanning the door menu, I chose the Pear Grillz. After finding a bench outside, our lunch was brought to us in no time. Let me first say, these bad boys come out smoking hot. My suggestion is to let it cool down so the cheese reconstructs and isn't completely sliding off of your toast as you're trying to eat. The pear was chewy and the brie complimented it well as it was hot and stuck in between two fat pieces of toast. The cold pressed juices are delicious! Mine was apple and kale, I also tried the watermelon and is was equally yum and the perfect to combo with their sandwiches. I left happy and satisfied over such a cool lunch spot.

Toni C.

Yelp
This place is stupid! I can't believe there are over 100 reviews and so many stars?!?! Look the absolute best part of this place is the staff, they are so nice and accommodating and friendly! I loved that and would give them 5 stars. But their grilled cheese sandwiches suck!!! I had the notorious BIG of something silly like that. Just not impressed at all. Can't believe so many recommended it. Also it's in an alley and there were junkies as I walked up to the place so be careful!

Elle T.

Yelp
Delicious toasties * Danny Zuccho & Tito with an ice long black the best for our first meal in Perth City. Their cold press juices are delightful as well.

Mathew P.

Yelp
Best grilled cheese sandwich in town... the coffee is amazing too... next time I visit perth, I am definitely going back to toastface grillah, even though it may be a little difficult to find ...

Matthew B.

Yelp
What a filthy little laneway offering this place is. Tucked away beyond the cigarette butt garden in what looks like a share house you will find the best toasted sandwiches in Perth! I thought I was an OG at toasted cheesies but dayuumm I only tried their Classic Cheese and I was schooled! Best toasted sandwich I have ever tasted at $5 R U KIDDING ME!!

Jack D.

Yelp
This place is called Toastface Grillah, which is absolutely genius and I therefore feel I don't need to give you anymore reason to go here. But seriously, if you're after a fast lunch to take away or even if you just want to tell your friends that you ate toast in a venue called Toastface Grillah, you really ned to get here ASAP. I am boring/safe with my lunch choices and went with an Ol' Faithful toastie (ham, cheese and sweet pickle sauce) plus an iced latte and it was genuinely one of the better lunch experiences of my life. Service is fast and friendly, seating is sparse and mostly made up of rickety crates, so don't go here expecting anything fancy. The toasties are served in the most GORGE cardboard boxes, which are just screaming for an Instagram post. Get on it! Get Grillah!

Vijay S.

Yelp
Tiny spot that's located in the back and was initially hard to find but eventually found it. Didn't realize this was a grilled cheese place till I got there. Got the apple and gouda sandwich which was pretty good. Loved the bread especially. They're pretty hot, so beware. Also got the mango passion fruit juice which was good. Overall location may not be ideal but good spot if you're in the mood for grilled cheese.

Lydia Z.

Yelp
Love! When I was working in the city I would always get off the bus early and walk there to get myself a treat. They are friendly, efficient and I love the mural on the wall outside! All of their toasties are absolutely DELISH!!!

Michelle M.

Yelp
Toastface is a 10 walk from my office, one bite and you would walk half an hour! These guys make the best toasties in Perth (IMO & let's face it , that's the only one that counts ) I'm working my way through their menu. Service is quick & it's hipster all the way, fashionable milk crates & all. I usually head back to work with my toastie to give it time to cool. My current fave is the B.A.G - bacon, apple, gouda & onion

Mitch E.

Yelp
Went here on a recommendation while I was in Perth. I think the name and concept alone does most of the work for these guys - but that isn't to say that they don't pull it off. Toastface is tucked away in a little alley and is a tiny store with a makeshift seating area out the back. I opted for the Ol' faithful, which was ham cheese and mustard, and it sure did the trick. Overflowing with cheese and a great balance of mustard and pickles, it certainly went down a treat. The only downside was that the seating area has no shade, so I was eating a scorching toastie in 40 degree heat - probably not the most ideal environment. Also the fact it's not licensed is a bit of a let down - a cold beer would've sat well alongside. Definitely a spot worth checking out, maybe only once though - I'm not sure if I loved it enough on its own merits to return to.

Amy D.

Yelp
Perfect name for a coffee/sandwich shop - certainly made us laught. Very casual environment and pretty decent coffee. We didn't try Toasties but would love to next time we're in town.

Alen K.

Yelp
This is a great example of a business that knows what it's good at and does not lose sight of that with all kinds of random useless fluff. If you want great grilled sandwiches in a chill atmosphere this is where you go. There isn't much else, but that's how it should be. Tight, focused and delicious. Great breakfast/brunch location, highly recommended.

Steven S.

Yelp
Im quite a forgiving dude... almost gave it 3 Stars but the grilled cheese bumped it up when it was in my mouth. So there was just myself and one other ordering..and somehow my grilled cheese order was forgotten. 20 mins later the guy who takes orders as well as making the coffee realised the mistake and apologised, also he offered a free coffee next time... i understand its Day 1 but still, its a grilled cheese not a lobster mornay. Awesome location just off Barrack St down the laneway and you'll find it tucked away with wooden flooring and chairs, funk/soul music playing, quite a nice joint. So what about value? Yes its just a grilled cheese and for the same price you could buy a loaf and a block of cheese, but you're not going to do that so get over it.. Average grilled cheese price is $6 and the coffees are cheaper than Perth's average, and they taste great. So i'm happy with the value.

Philipa A.

Yelp
Yum Yum Yum, Always wanted to go here and finally the sensation of a well made toasted sandwich. The Apple and Gouda was amazing. The only let down was the coffee was so hot I had to wait a full 15 minutes just to drink it. I would of gone back but had already left. Shame otherwise would been 5 stars.

Laura M.

Yelp
With its namesake a clever play on Wu-Tang words, Toastface Grillah was carefully curated to reign supreme. You can't help but think .. how was this not thought of earlier?! Tucked away down Grand Lane (home to Lightspace Lockers amongst other sweet projects) this little toastie joint breathes life into a somewhat seedier part of the 'hood. The sunny outdoor area is a mix of crates and makeshift seats making it the perfect place to hang as you suck up some rays or shelter from the rain. Relax, kick your sneakered feet up and knock back a coffee (which I hear is first rate) or in my case a bottle of Sarsaparilla whilst you wait for the magic. We ordered an Apple & Gouda and a Ham & Cheese both ticking all the right boxes and gobbled down in seconds. I think what makes a good toastie are a) two thick slabs of wonderful white bread b) a generous application of salty butter 30 good quality (and plentiful) cheese and trimmings and d) it must be thrown onto the grill at the right temperature instantly sizzling the butter warming up to golden brown as the cheese slowly melts down the sides. Whilst I would have loved to tear through the menu chowing down multiple toasties my gluten hatin' tummy would not have left smiling. But that's okay ... I am quite alright with tackling each menu item one visit at a time.

Helene P.

Yelp
Good and reasonably price cheese toasties with some interesting flavors. The counter in northbridge is very small so it can take a while for the food to come out at peak times.

Luis G.

Yelp
Oh, my goodness! This out-of-the-way hidden gem is testament to the business model of doing one thing, and doing it well. As the other reviews will attest to, their grilled sandwich is definitely one of the best I've had in many years. The expertly toasted, herbed bread, with lashings of butter and just the right amount of crispness. Mouthwatering. They they add a delicious cheddar which melts to gooey perfection. Today I had their chilli toastie which included jalapeños, smoked paprika and chilli flakes. Not overpowering but a yummy blend of spice. Others in my group had the Steaks are High and classic grilled cheese. We all enjoyed our toasted sandwiches. Throw in a well made coffee, and you have a lunchtime recipe for success. We didn't have to wait too long for our order - maybe 5 minutes all up. Outstanding.

Alexandra P.

Yelp
This not so secret café, has been the talk of the town, or Yelp for that matter, so I couldn't wait to hit it up. Toastface Grillah has a simple philosophy, to make toasted sandwiches interesting combined with creative flavours. It's a hip place to hang out with its urban hip hop bops. It's got that back street, laneway, Melbourne hipster vibe to it. I shared the Apple and Gouda toastie ($8) which really hit the spot, especially with the cold weather. The toastie was both sweet and gooey and despite their small size, very filling. Next on my list is the classic 3 cheese: cheddar, emmental and gruyere and of course the ham and cheese.

Adam P.

Yelp
Love love this place. A tiny, grungy shop with small semi-outdoor area serving toasties, coffee and juices. It's a simple concept, but everything is done so well that it's a top spot for a quick bite to eat and a caffeine fix. I tried both the steak toastie and the one with jamon serrano and both were great. Prices are reasonable and it's a place I'll definitely visit again when in town.

Dian H.

Yelp
I basically come here every week for the the 3 chilli toastie and the wickedly good coffee. Seriously, don't bother anywhere else for a simple, right in the guts comfort food brekkie. So far have tried the shroomy, 3 cheese and the bf has tried the classic with ham. But I keep coming back for the chilli which is perfection. This is the best and chillest toastie hangout in town.

Richard G.

Yelp
It might be hidden down a little alley in the middle of Perth, but it's very worthwhile finding it for a quick bite at lunch. I paid a visit with the family, and we managed to pull up a small bench in the courtyard to eat a variety of toasties. It's surprising that you can build a business based on a simple idea like a toasted sandwich, but it really works well. The food was great, and the coffee was really good too. There aren't too many little nooks like this in Perth just yet. So even the adventure of a alley way feast is a fun one to try.

Byron L.

Yelp
We asked for them not to overdo the grilling because we saw some pictures with really toasted bread. And it's just perfect. The cheese is not completely melted like but that's alright. Coffee is okay. Juice is better than the coffee. We ordered pretty much all the juices.

Leanne P.

Yelp
Eating cheese toasties and drinking coffee in the back of the Murray Street Mall, away from the crowd. A great way to spend lunchtime on a Friday. The pear grillz was amazing, blue cheese....mmmm. The good is worth stopping by for.

Emma J.

Yelp
Love this sneaky little place! Lovely staff, coffee & toasties but the BEST thing about this place is; the slices they have on the counter! The salted popcorn snickersy amazingness of one of the slices is incredible! I bought two for the weekend! Need to try the other kinds but I bet they are as good! Cash only place so make sure you have some $$ or you will have to run around to woolies to the ATM.

Nathan F.

Yelp
Ah toast face, is anything more humble yet rewarding than the toasted cheese sandwich? I don't think so; and these guys have hit upon some fancy versions that offer a lot of variety whilst still keeping that comfort food from being turned into something else. I cannot even recommend one selection overt another they are all good in their own way depending on your mood; better yet if you have the time you can sit back and relax to some funky beats. The only downside is that seating is minimal and being in an alleyway you cannot easy overflow outside, but I simply choose to be more creative with my patronage times.

Grace M.

Yelp
This place is pure joy! A simple yet super creative idea; toasties and great coffee. My first visit here was on Christmas eve last year, after rushing around the city for several hours, my partner suggested we have a break and go grab some lunch. He'd been here plenty of times and was always telling me about it. I wasn't convinced it was as good as he said. "Grilled chesses are basic food, I can make them myself at home" As we started down the alley way to Toastface, I became less and less enthused. Walking in front of us was a man (homeless I'm guessing) it seemed he was spilling water as he was walking, when he heard us behind him he turned around.....and there it was...his *** in his hand....still going. He turned back around and quickly finished his business then walked off. At this point, I was pretty convinced I wanted to turn around and just grab some macca's. But Al insisted we keep going, and thank goodness he did! I couldn't make a better grilled cheese at home if I tried my hardest. The Danny Zuchho, oh man! Marinated zucchini, brie and jamon serrano! the chesse was perfectly melted and soooo stringy, bread browned to perfection, and zucchini (which I don't usually like) was beautifully marinated! Alistair- the toast master, has taken the simple sandwich and turned it into a grilled masterpiece! Thank you Sir!

Indy F.

Yelp
The toast of the town I say! Have indulged in breakfast at Toastface Grillah and have to confess I am hooked. I have chomped my way though a Danny Zucho, Feelin a lil Chilli and a Trillah. The Danny Zucho is my favourite - the delicious melange of flavours make my taste buds go crazy, I intend to revisit so I can work my way through the menu. I love the artwork and the pieces of kitsch randomly strewn around, I feel this adds to the character of the place. The service is always excellent and they sure know how to make a mean macchiato!

Rachel J.

Yelp
The name of this toasties shop is genius. So genius that GK himself showed up. Juices are really, really good. Pear Grillz and 3 Cheese are awesome, and Notorious B.A.G. and Danny Zuccho help make these the best sammiches in Aus. Maybe I'm a little concerned about In-N-Out next door, but no.

Sarah P.

Yelp
Damn that's a good toastie. Why can't I make toasties this good? The place offers some serious instant street cred for all those who visit or recommend it. "Oh, no big deal, I'm just taking you down this kewl graffiti'd alleyway to a secret coffee/toastie place named after Ghostface Killah. No biggie." The toasties are the perfect way to get all your calories in one delicious serving - tons of butter and cheese and deliciousness. I always go for the Old Faithful - with mustard pickle, ham and cheese. Freaking yum. Take it out into the casual courtyard with one of their brilliant coffees or get it to go. Do it yo'

Whitney N.

Yelp
Cheese toasties are something that I use to marvel and look forward to so much as a kid - I love how Toastface Grillah plays on my nostalgia, as well as my taste buds. I rarely give perfect ratings, but I'm happy to say that I've never been disappointed here. The coffee is consistently good and that's something to commend considering the fact that they place their sandwiches front and centre. They've cleverly expanded into offering Delish Ice pops and cheese boards on Friday night, which I to be appropriate (and yummy) extensions. Trust me, there's nothing better than kicking back on a mid-afternoon with a coffee and some cheesy goodness. They've been winning me over ever since!

Josh P.

Yelp
Feeling peckish? I would 100% recommend toastface, they have wicked toasties ontop of the coffee they make it's pretty damn good. Easy to find and located central in Perth CBD. I wish I worked closer so I could get one everyday!

Caroline T.

Yelp
For $11, I got the best chilli toasted sandwich I've ever eaten and a magnificent coffee. Thank goodness my hotel was across the road from this, because I had to have it nearly every morning! It has great ambience (rap music galore), and it feels lovely and comfortable.

Ka Ki L.

Yelp
Please visit my blog for the full blog post Food and presentation - 3.5/5 Our toasties were tasty although I can make the same thing at home if I were to use the same ingredients and we usually make our toasties at home with garlic butter anyway. Both hubby and I preferred the turkey toastie to the ham and cheese especially since we both felt the ham used wasn't special ham of any sort. All that aside, the toasties were tasty and we enjoyed it. Service - 3.5/5 We waltzed in and didn't get much of a welcome, maybe because the man behind the counter was busy making coffee but he did eventually say hi and said sorry for the wait. Good enough service for an eatery of this type. Atmosphere and decor - 4/5 Loved the laid back atmosphere of Toastface Grillah and the simple yet funky decor. Value for money - 3/5 I found it a bit expensive for something you can make at home and especially since they don't really pack the toastie with that much filling. I guess I'm paying for them to make it for me. I wouldn't mind coming back for an overpriced toastie but it won't be frequent. Taste Test Total Score 14/20

Lily O.

Yelp
I didn't understand the hype until I came in to see for myself. Based in a dirty laneway that feels like a great Dexter murder scene (or more like Melbourne than Melbourne, in some ways), there is neither decent coffee or food nearby until you go to the Barrack St Asian eateries. In this tiny little shop covered in street graffiti, is the fantastic gourmet toastie shop which has a really dedicated following. The unusual name is a tribute to Wu-Tang's Ghostface Killah, which is pretty cool. The menu is graffitied on the door of the cafe itself (not the front courtyard) and there are about several offerings including a few dessert toasties, all very well priced at under $10. Now I see why it's so popular. The bread was just plain old white sandwich bread which was a tad disappointing, but it was toasted so beautifully. The winner is the filling - the toasties only have a few ingredients but they are of high quality and flavour!! Mine had a slow cooked beef with melty cheese and was lovely however it doesn't seem to be offered anymore. I wish they'd change their menu a little more often or have more specials for the regulars. But the prices, flavours and service are all great and offers some of the best lunch value in the CBD!

Alice N.

Yelp
There aren't words. Toasted sandwiches are simple, anyone can make them, but these guys take it next level. Cheese and chilli. Simple and Perfect. Trilla Cheese. Yum. Ol' Faithful. Get in me. Their puns are as good as their sandwiches, and the guys are friendly and welcoming. Their roll out into events has been fantastic, especially as their shop isn't open in the evenin', which means, as I don't work in the city, I often miss out. On top of their wizardry when it comes to sandwich making, everything is so reasonably priced. $7 for a piece of sandwich heaven? OK! $3 coffee. Get in me.

Peter W.

Yelp
Short and sweet - these guys specialise in toasted sandwiches and they do it really fucking well. To be honest, I wanted to try the place because of the Wu Tang Clan parody name I had the Feelin' a Lil Chilli as I like spice. It was that exact right level of spice without being overwhelming. Would I recommend? Absolutely, well worth it!

Izzy W.

Yelp
I didn't really 'get' what all the rage was about. We stood in the alley way waiting for two toasties for about 20 minutes, possibly more. It was made on cheap bread and mine was particularly tangy - not sure why. They were nothing special for a toastie and I make better at home. There's no where to sit as it's constantly full of hipsters that are happy to sit around forever for a toasted sandwich. Definitely not worth the hype, sorry for not choosing to jump on this bandwagon #goodfoodofperth

Carina M.

Yelp
Every time I visit Toastface Grillah I wonder if I'm crazy to be foregoing the plethora of other eateries in Perth for a toasted sandwich... but I am always reminded without fail that the goods served at Toastface aren't just your average toasties. Case in point is 'The King' which includes grilled brie, peanut butter, banana and maple syrup. It certainly puts the regular 'ol PB&J to shame! I can't express how good this sandwich truly is. It's perfectly sticky, decadent and the maple syrup soaks into the bread to create the most delightful caramel! No matter how hard I'll try to recreate it, I just know that my efforts will never come close to Toastface!

Hannah K.

Yelp
Tasty toasties! This place is nothing fancy, but if you're in the mood for a cheap, interesting toasty that you likely can't get anywhere else (see: the King toasty) this is the place to go.

Tatiana B.

Yelp
I remember the first time I came here... it was just a few weeks after I started my job and I took two of my colleagues for lunch here. As we entered the really doggy alley way, they were sure that I was leading them to harvest their organs. However, the amazing toasties saved my budding friendships and I have to say that two years later this is still one of our favorites. The menu if full of unexpected combinations and some times has guest stars too.

Meiling C.

Yelp
Down a little alleyway you'll find the king of toasties. Limited space to sit but you can always take off. Staff are amazing and hilarious! Ordered the brie and jam and it was so delicious. Can't wait to try out the pear grillz!

Clancy H.

Yelp
Went here purely because of the name for a quick breakfast one morning and was not disappointed. Cool spot to sit down, have a coffee, a good sandwich and read the paper. Worth checking out if you happen to come across it.

Amy Z.

Yelp
Mediocre grilled cheese, I can see the appeal in this, but the overall flavour was quite disappointing.....I probably set my expectations too high. Definitely not for me!

Tresna L.

Yelp
I've had Toastface Grillah in my Yelp bookmarks ever since I heard about Ghostface Killah doing a surprise Hip Hop set on the back of a ute here (http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/musicnews/s4153637.htm) You know you've made it when a cafe uses your name as a pun. It's really genius because it also perfectly explains their simple menu in two words. Don't come here expecting poached eggs and avo on toast. Nope, you'll have the choice of a short menu of toasties to select from and they'll get freshly made while you wait in the ghetto courtyard. Simple box seats, hip hop playing on the speakers, toasties served in paper boxes and a layer of grunge that is borderline gross, but still rather charming. Picture a college dorm where the priority is drinking beer rather than vacuuming and you'll have a good understanding of the vibe here. It hardly matters though when you take a bite of that hot steaming toastie. In fact it kind of enhances the experience of having molten cheese drip on to your hand as you try and shovel the goodness in to your mouth. Don't overthink it. Just go and enjoy!

Jodie K.

Yelp
Toasties out of my Breville sandwich press never taste this good. Mine are sad, squashed little toasties and the cheese has oozed out onto the sandwich press, none of that at TG. It's full hipster but who cares, the toasties are delish, the prices are right ($7.5 for a toastie is pretty good in Perth!) and the wait isn't too long. Eftpos available. Minimal seating but people move through pretty fast.

Robert R.

Yelp
A relaxed, utilitarian seating area to enjoy toasted cheese sandwiches. Mushroomy was delicious. Full size coffees, strong and hot.

Keegan W.

Yelp
Before I begin, let me say, that for a "Toastie place" they make OUTSTANDING coffee. On the other hand, this place is just literally a toastie joint. There's no question you could make these yourself at home but their toasties certainly are original and are extremely delicious. I've had the Danny Zucho twice and was thoroughly impressed with the favour. The pricing is extremely fair as well (below $10) and there's always been a short waiting period despite being busy at times.
