Meet Master Whisky Distiller Julieann Fernandez - AFAR

"Located on the Isle of Mull and included in the group portfolio overseen by Julieann Fernandez, this site is associated with the group’s expansion into distillery-exclusive gin inspired by the isle’s wild coastline; botanicals cited include Scotch lovage, sugar kelp, lavender, and samphire, producing a profile described as sweet with a subtle salty edge." - Jenny Adams

Visiting this distillery had been on my list for a long time, and my wife and I were delighted to finally make it. The distillery itself is not very large, but it is truly beautiful. The tour was well structured, both informative and enjoyable, and Kristy did an excellent job guiding us. On the same day, I also joined a tasting, which was exceptional and gave me the chance to try some fantastic whiskies. In addition, I took part in the warehouse experience with Olivier — an absolute highlight. He was not only very knowledgeable but also incredibly engaging, and the whiskies we tasted were unique and outstanding. If I had to mention one downside, it would be the lack of a bar where visitors could sample core range or special editions without having to join a tour or tasting.

Had pre booked the Warehouse 1 tasting tour at 6pm and after a small tour of distillery, we ended up in warehouse 1 with 4 straight from the barrel cask strength whiskies. 2 from Tobermory and 2 from Ledaig. All were fantastic, unique flavours and well rounded drams. Tour Guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Would definitely recommend and would do again.

We visited the whisky distillery on May 16th as a group of four, and it was a fantastic experience! Our guide, Kirstie, was incredibly friendly and approachable. She provided us with detailed insights into the fascinating process of how whisky is made, all in a warm and engaging manner. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend it to others!

Cool tour. About an hour plus 2 drams of whiskey at the end. Small distillery made it a bit more intimate than the huge distillery tours like at Jameson.

A true highlight on Mull – the Tobermory Distillery tour! The 1 hour tour was absolutely fantastic – engaging, informative, and really well put together from start to finish. Our guide was not only super friendly but also very knowledgeable. You could tell he was passionate about what he does and knew his stuff inside out. Every question was answered with patience and detail. What stood out most was how clearly and vividly the entire production process was explained. From malt to cask, we got a hands-on look at how whisky is made. It wasn’t just a lecture – it felt like stepping right into the heart of whisky-making. You could really sense the history and dedication behind every drop. The atmosphere in the distillery is wonderfully authentic – no flashy gimmicks, just honest craftsmanship. If you’re into whisky (or simply curious), this is the perfect tour. A lovely experience – educational, and full of Tobermory charm!

The distillery is in a very nice location. It's a little distillery and they basically only do distillation here. The tour felt a bit rushed, with pressure on us to move quickly and only take one photo at places. We did not get to see the common Porteous mill (not being used) but only told about it. At the tasting, we were given the whiskies in the wrong order, meaning the guide was explaining the flavours of their non-peated whisky while we were tasting the peated one, and vice versa. We all realised at the end. Having visited other small distilleries, they should curate the tour more and od better with what they have.

Fantastic tour of a wonderful distillery. The tour guide was great - knowledgeable and entertaining. Great product on sale in the shop. A must do in Tobermory.
