Tofino Hostel / HI Whalers On The Point Guesthouse

Pros: Excellent location. The view from the dining room is beautiful. Really nicely well kept hostel which feels very homely and comfortable without feeling stale. Very well equipped kitchen. One of the cleanest hostels I've ever stayed in. Cons: One of the rooms which sits at the top of the stairs has such poorly soundproof doors and walls. I barely slept for two nights. I've stayed in hostels all over the world and this was two of the worst night's sleep I've ever had and I've literally stayed in hostels above nightclubs. You could hear the person in the room next to you roll over in bed. You could hear the floorboards moving outside your room and you could hear the toilet doors opening with the dryers all the way down the corridor. You could hear people downstairs playing pool. It was awful even though my earplugs. I did have to be quite firm but the staff did move us into another room for our final night and we had a great night's sleep in there which was appreciated. They seemed aware that some of the rooms were particularly bad, which felt unfair considering it's also one of the most expensive hostels I've ever stayed in. It could do with some of the finishing touches I've had in other HI hostels, charging ports next to the beds and baskets in the showers etc.

One of the cheapest places to stay in Tofino and also a total pleasure. We had a private room over looking the water. The shared bathrooms were simple but clean and not crowded. We were able to borrow shower supplies from the shelve of free shared stuff. The gathering areas were clean and comfortable. They hooked us up with kayaking too. One negative was that their parking was full so we had to pay for street parking. Would def recommend this place. Also, wifi was decent and free and I was able to do a video meeting for work.

We stayed for four nights in the Ocean-View Suite A with a private bath. It was very clean, and we had enough space. Sometimes during the day, it can be a bit noisy because the door to the suite is right by the Hostel's entry door. The public space with the large window looking at the bay was nice, and clean enough. We used the kitchen to cook a few times, it was fine. The outdoor area, however, needs cleaning: it did not look very inviting. Overall, I would stay here again. It was nice to be close to town to walk around at night.

Located right by the water, I had great views when I had to get some work done on my laptop. The staff were friendly and helpful. I wish their laundry had a wider window of availability during the day as they open late afternoon and close at 10 PM. One of the staff was very helpful and helped me pick up my laundry from the dryer when I wasn't able to myself. Also, I liked how convenient it was to store things in their lockers before and after my checkout time.

Tofino Hostel is one of the best hostels I have stayed at - very cozy, clean, well equipped and organized, great location & view. We booked a private room with very comfortable beds and warm bedding, just like in a hotel. We slept well even though it was a bit loud past 10 pm and we couldn´t fall alseep right away. The kitchen is very spacious and well planned, we prepared a couple of meals and could enjoy them in the dining area, with a great view of the ocean. We also recommend booking tours via the hostel, like the hot springs one that we went on and enjoyed very much!

If I had option not to give you a star. We booked with this hotel more than 3 months ago, the room we booked should have balcony, ocean view, but they gave us room near the kitchen and the view was parking lot.we went for vacation and paid almost $1000 but we can rest at all. Always lot of people in the kitchen and they are to so noisy. We told them we don’t want this room because it’s totally different and so noisy but they are not listening to us. We had very bad experience with this hotel.

Working with Juliane at Tofino Hostel / HI Whalers On The Point Guesthouse was a wonderful experience. I stayed there for one day while producing a virtual tour, interior photos, and drone shots of the exterior and the stunning Tofino surroundings. The common area was also a great spot to work and soak in the welcoming atmosphere and views of the Tofino harbour. Juliane’s kindness stood out—when I was tired and recovering from an injury on another shoot, she even drove me and my bike back to my campground. Her hospitality made a big difference during my stay in Tofino. She is also a great person to chat to if you're interested in kayaking the surrounding waters. I highly recommend Tofino Hostel / HI Whalers On The Point Guesthouse for anyone seeking a friendly, accommodating place in Tofino, and I’m grateful for the chance to work with Juliane.

Location is amazing! The view from the lounge in the hostel is beautiful. The kitchen is spacious, pool table & TV was so much fun. Parking was super easy to organise. Beds are super comfortable. Would come back for sure!

This was a beautiful hostel. Right on the water, the views from the rooms are not to be missed. Apparently it fill up during the summer but was fairly empty when my friends and I went in February. The staff were great and were very forthcoming when it came to telling us about the town. The place itself is huge. Giant kitchen. Great big lounge area. A great place for single travelers, families and everyone in between.

Just returned from my 5th stay at this hostel. It's wonderful! Big, clean, bright, safe, friendly. The sauna is a nice touch too, great for warming up after a long day on the water. Great location, gorgeous views, affordable price you can't beat it!

Great place! Very good location, by the ocean, big rooms, large kitchen and dinning area. Very clean. We had a private room with 4 beds and a bathroom. Love it!

Love this hostel. Clean. Excellent common area with fireplace and beautiful views. Well-appointed kitchen. And, after a cold day in the water surfing, they have a sauna to revive your core temperture.

Friendly, clean and fun. Great communal spaces (big living rooms, big kitchen). Staff keeps everything clean (which is a challenge with all those people using the same kitchen). Nice bathrooms and showers too. Internet is slow though.

Best hostel I ever stayed at. Amazing place. Great views, huge kitchen, great rooms. Tofino is magical on it's own... Always looking forward to going back.

I completed a 5.5 month road trip across the states and up into Vancouver Island in 2014. I stayed here for 10 days in February and fell in love with Tofino. I probably stayed at 30 hostels over the course of my travels and this one played an amazing part in a special way. It was relaxing, had clean beds/bathrooms/kitchen, and (even though Tofino is a small town) it was in a nice walkable area. It also had plenty of parking. The best part is in the photos. An incredible view of the bay/inlet where I sat and ate breakfast every morning with other travelers. I look forward to going back.

these guys are jerks. we showed up on a friday night and told them that two of the beds we reserved for weren't coming, and they said we needed to pay for their beds the whole weekend. the next day they had put two people in the lounge on mattresses instead of trying to sell the beds in our room, essentially double dipping. add to that the place is huge, impersonal and has waaay to many rules and a ridiculous 'quiet hour' policy. there are way better places to stay in tofino on the cheap.
