Togakushi-Jinja Chusha

We came during the snowy winter. For travelers coming via public transport, be prepared for a long and slippery hike. The forest and trail covered in snow are absolutely breathtaking, but the cold mountain can also, quite literally take your breath. We had a great time there and took quite some amazing photos along the way.

Great hike among old cedar coves. Pls reserve a bus seat (ticket office across the station)!

Supposedly one of Japan's holiest shrines, taking a walk down a path in the middle of a dense forest before being greeted by the stunning sight of massive cedar trees lining the sides was really relaxing. Along the way, you'll also be treated to stunning snowy landscapes (if the weather's good) and the incredible sight of residue snow flying off tree tops as a cooling breeze blows through the forest. However, I wasn't able to reach the shrine itself as the path was blocked due to concerns of a possible avalanche.

This is one of the best place to visit in winter. Beautifully surrounded by snow gives a real feel of worship and tall trees around you makes highly scenic view around you Old trees of around 700-800 yrs makes you feel that beautiful world is still around you without any distractions. Must visit place for snow lovers.

The shrine holds historic significance no doubt. But it is the journey getting there that is a must have experience.

Awe-inspiring. Thick white snow along the path, flanked by huge cedar trees. So gorgeous. The walk from the main road to Togakushi main shrine was 2 km but worth every centimetre. The bus to go, and back was a little confusing. The route seems to be monopolize by one company - Alpico, and it has some strange schedules. Clarify before purchasing your tickets at the ticketing office

We did not finish the full course as I slip on the icy snow. The course was quite difficult to find the way as there were not many map available. The way to get there also quite difficult. The bus did not come often. If you miss the one you have to wait for another 1 hour to get on the next one. They do not increase the number of bus. Overall, we did not had a great time going there and come back. Had to wait the long line of getting the bus both way. The snow was too much that we could not really see things. Map was not available and Google map did not really helpful as snow was everywhere and we had accident.
