"Tokio Joe's for Japanese Has Real Staying Power A legend in its own time, Tokio Joe’s has maintained a loyal following for more than two decades, which is a rarity in the restaurant world. The reasons are plenty: knowledgeable, efficient service; a comfortable, laid-back ambience; and of course, excellent delicate sushi, sashimi, and an expertly curated omakase menu, with fish from Japan, Norway, Brazil, and other parts of the world. The menu changes every six months, though signature dishes like the beloved tuna salad and spicy tuna roll remain year after year. Other perennialfavorites include the seared toro, fresh crabmeat, and avocado roll, and the House Special roll—made with deep-fried soft-shell crab, avocado, cucumber, crab roe, and mayonnaise. Everyone loves the fried egg and mushroom don (noodles), and Joe's special seafood ramen will never go out of style."
The food here is absolutely incredible. The o-toro nigiri was hands down best I’ve had. I really enjoyed the service/super friendly staff. I also had a coffee and that was great.
The complimentary edamame & salted tomatoes with guacamole were a great way to start the meal too! Highly recommend.

Incredible food! Outstanding service! I was advised that i had order enough food already - I loved the detail Música. Music is a bit different from a traditional Japanese restaurant, but the Old Rock & Roll matches it.

Tokio Joe has been serving up quality Japanese cuisine for more than 20 years, and last weekend we had a chance to try out their weekend brunch🤩 my favorites were the Sushi Rolls! The House Roll 2.0 was a spicy choice with salmon and tuna, while the Super Star looked amazing with colorful sashimi pieces wrapping around the roll😍

I enjoyed the brunch deal here. Great portions and good variety of sushi and sashimi etc. the champagne and sake drinks package was decent also and lasts for 3 hours so you can get legless if you wish.
For those looking for a solid Japanese brunch option, this can’t be passed on. The food was very good quality for a brunch and service was excellent. No tactics like stalling on drinks etc

Generally solid sushi and rolls. The highlight is the spicy tuna in lettuce. Price is good. For a Saturday night quiet and not as lively as it used to be. A good option for high quality food even if a little on the pricey side.

One of our all-time favourite Japanese restaurants in Hong Kong. it is located in Lan Kwai Fong for over 20 years as far as I know. We ordered from lunch menu. Excellent service!

Yelp
It's been a long long time since I've dined here so I don't remember it. I just remembered I had a good time. It was a fairly quiet night for a Friday with about 1/2 the restaurant full at 8pm. High quality food & high end prices. If you go with meals, expect to pay HK$500-800. If you go ala cart, who knows, as each item about $150 and not very large. But the service is attentive and the do a good job all at rounds.

Yelp
Lunch sets are reasonably priced, around 280-350 per person plus 10% service charge. Coke/soda's prices are distorted and not reasonable... Food is ok, perhaps better than average. Food is considered fresh. Sushi is delicious. In lunch hours, this is a nice option to bring a client. Environment is nice. Service is above average. No need to reserve seats for lunch. Probably 80% occupancy both times I had lunch there.

Yelp
Come here once in a while for very fresh and delicious Japanese food, and it's longevity is testament to the quality of the food - it's one of the first ever restaurants in Lan Kwai Fong and still going strong. In fact, when the chef here walks into Dragon-i, they give him a table with bottles and celebrity treatment. Such is the stature of the patrons and this establishment over the years.
All the sashimi dishes are amazingly fresh and well-conceptualized, the plating is aestheically-inclined and a bit Western in fact. You won't just get the basic silced sashimi here, it will usually come plated and sometimes with a tangy sauce or complements. I cannot single out a single sashimi dish but I am a big fan of the lobster congee with is wonderful near the end of a cold meal and before dessert, very moreish, very flavorful.
It's around HKD 1,000 per head for omakase, and may be more expensive depending on what you want. But a good thing is you can tell them your budget and they can also figure out if that's doable. I did a ~HKD 600 omakase, but ended up spending another HKD 600 on sake. But hey, it's in Lan Kwai Fong after all,
So is it cheap? Not really.
But is the food delicious? Fresh? Totally.
Am I drunk? Yep. But hey, I'm a functional drunk, you can trust me.

Yelp
Despite the millions of sushi restaurants available in Hong Kong, this city really lacks sushi roll options. They really just don't exist here (this is a business opportunity, hello?!). I know sushi rolls are not authentic, but that doesn't mean they aren't delicious.
When I really crave a sushi roll, Tokio Joe's is my go-to.
You must, must, MUST order the Spicy Toro Tartare. This is non-negotiable because this is the best tuna/sushi dish I have had in all of Hong Kong! It really is THAT good. I could eat this every single day, but at $290 HKD/order, my wallet would tell me otherwise. Some of the other dishes that always seem to please: spicy roll combo, Typhoon roll, and their handrolls.
Sushi here is always fresh and high quality, I always leave here anticipating my next trip back here for another meal! Great service and friendly staff too. However, the one issue I have is that every meal here is quite pricey. It's definitely a splurge to come here, otherwise I would come more often.

Yelp
There are a lot of sushi options in Hong Kong. For an American like myself, just about any sushi you get in Asia is going to be better than the crap you get in the states.
That having been said, the two (I believe connected) places in Lan Kwai Fong- Tokio Joe's and Kyoto Joe's are two of Hong Kong's best, in my opinion.
Tokio Joe's is a small, street level restaurant that's usually pretty crowded. But we came on a Sunday Night and sat right away.
We got a good variety- a few rolls, some sashimi, and some tempura. They bring edamame and a delicious marinated tomato to the table as an appetizer. The drink menu is limited, but the sushi is fresh and very tasty.
Like Kyoto Joe's, you really can't lose if you decide to go here.

Yelp
If you love rolls, this is the place for you. The food is fresh and the quality is quite high. We ordered the "typical" North American rolls, tempura and some yakitori. The edamame and tomato salad they brought us as soon as we were seated was a nice start to the meal. The assorted tempura set was a bit disappointing as it was not as light and airy with the batter and the portion was a bit small. The rolls were indeed the highlight of the evening - we had ordered the dragon back rolls and the dynamite sushi set and were quick at making them quickly disappear.
As others have mentioned, it is a bit pricey but if you are in need of a good fix then splurge on the rolls and forgo the rest of the menu.

Yelp
One of our go to restaurants.
The spicy toro tartare is excellent & is a must have..
The sushi was fresh whilst rolls in general are very good (House Special, California, Negi Toro). The tempura was only ok.
One complaint was the restaurant smelt musty when we turned up but maybe that was an aircon issue?
Service was efficient & accommodating. Be warned - this restaurant is not cheap.

Yelp
I adore any of the "joes" for a good sushi meal. They are often quite full during the lunch hour rush and it's best to book ahead.
They have a range of sets including sushi, sashimi, udon, tempura or grilled fish, so you can pretty much get whatever you're looking for.
I highly recommend their tuna tartare or any spicy tuna roll. It's like heaven in your mouth. The fish is always fresh, and they give you enough rice-to-fish to let you enjoy every single mouthwatering bite.
Yum.

Yelp
So sushi here is pretty good, but the sushi set and edamame came to about 50 us dollars. I am not quite sure if I ever paid that much for a set in nyc, tokyo or anywhere else in the world. I have paid much more than 50 us dollars by ordering piece by piece or sashimi but not the sushi pré set and edamame.... even at the tsukiji market tokyo, it was not that much..

Yelp
I'm going to start bold. Best sushi I've ever eaten. Ever. Pretty bold right? I'll also say that I've never been to Japan so I can't compare to the sushi-making gurus of that island. But from London to Hong Kong I cannot recall being more satisfied with the first bite of a wasabi/soya sauced absorbed piece of rice and raw fish.
I was invited to the restaurant by my dad, another sushi lover that frequents Joe's a couple times a week. Wisely he booked a spot at 12:30, going any later is a recipe for a heart break it's that popular. My dad obviously knew his way around the popular place, greeting the staff warmly and being asked for the "usual". What a great feeling, I must say, when you can walk into a restaurant and just smile at one of the staff and say "Get me the usual." And they know exactly what you mean. So, he got the usual and I didn't know what to get from their extensive menu. The beef combo looked promising, but then again so did Joe's Combo. I thought it was best to follow in my father's footsteps as he had probably already filtered out the bad choices, or less good I should say. The two spicy combo rolls arrived about ten minutes later with a cupped shape bowl of miso soup. The dish consisted of three different types of rolls. I couldn't figure out which was better, the tuna or the salmon - it didn't matter because they were both on my plate!
The deliciousness of the food distracted me from inspecting the venue itself. On the way out I noticed that it was larger, bigger than I first thought, and extremely well maintained. The staff professional and the decor authentic. It hits a few rungs above the chain sushi restaurants, but because of such the wallet takes a few more hits as well! It's well worth every penny and then some.
