Tokoman

After reading positive things about Tokoman in a travel guide I wanted to try it out - particularly the Broodje Pom, with chilli and pickles. The woman behind the counter was very kind and helpful, and the food was good - very reasonably priced too! If I had stayed in Amsterdam longer I would have made return visits!

- food is disgusting and not fresh at all, health authorities should have a closer look at this place! - they sell chewy fatty dog food under the name of ‘beef rendang’ - they close much earlier then the official closing time says - the woman is grumpy as hell bon apetite!

The lady was so kind, explaining to me everything I asked about the food patiently. She heated it up for me so I can eat it hot. The food is really good and you can feel that it's good quality. I don't know what they added to these noodles but they are so delicious 😋. Great prices and a good option for something healthy. I especially recommend the noodles and shrimp. Thanks Tokoman! *I got the wokbox with noodles, barbecue chicken and shrimp (extra) and plain sweet beans.

Everything you could expect from an easy takeout place. If you are complaining that things are in Dutch and thus giving a bad review you should really get over yourself and deal because it wasn't very hard to figure things out, but you are also in The Netherlands where people speak dutch (imagine that). There is a HUGE sign that tells you right away they do not take credit cards and so you just pay cash, easy peasy. Lady behind the counter was pleasant and helpful and we had a great quick lunch.

My friends and I went in seeing the big selection of ready made food. Prices looked acceptable, they don’t accept credit card, only visa and debit. Everything was fine but the cook was rude to my friend as she didn’t know what to order since everything was in Dutch and there were no descriptions. My friend said “I’d like a sandwich but I don’t know what they are”. And the cook said in a rude tone “i don’t know what you want” and did a hand gesture and went on. Then after my friend just decided to eat a random item on the menu, she tries to tell the cook what she wants but gets a weird stare as if she was offended with being interrupted. The food tasted okay, a bit lacking in sauce and there’s no clear prices on the stuff in front of you. The 2 star is mostly from our experience. Really bad manners from the woman cook.

They've been here 20 years (or even longer but I've been coming here for 18 years out of convenience). Quality is consistent, taste is original and prices are reasonable. The service is not great, especially the guy when you're not Dutch (he has issues), but the lady is okay. It's not the best Surinam place, but this one is very conveniently located and worth a try.

Lots of choices of asian surinameese streetfood. Lots of choices for rice boxes, sandwiches, pastry and bao. We have been there several times. I liked the porc bao a lot. We will come back when in amsterdam.

Pre-cooked meals can produce significant amounts of nitrites. Selling such less-than-fresh meals at regular restaurant prices is already absurd. Moreover, the meat quality is inconsistent, sometimes fresh and sometimes not, causing stomach pain and diarrhea. The quality drops while prices rise, which is a joke. Only people unfamiliar with true gastronomy, like the Dutch, would eat such things.
