This place is always quiet and relaxing. Amazing deals on sushi and super tasty noodle bowls. I always recommend it as a good spot for a first date because you can people watch the folks on whyte Ave while eating. Been a loyal customer for many years now!

Google
I come here with my family once in a while and recently just order takeout and was very impressed with the quality. Fair prices, decently sized sashimi for the price you pay, and great customer service.

My friend and I ordered take out. It was ready fast and we got more than enough food for two people for $60. We got a bunch of different sushi and I was very pleased with the service and the taste was amazing. Highly recommend, the prices were very reasonable.

It was another busy day for us and we decided to stop by this Tokyo Noodle Shop in Edmonton for a quick dinner. It was packed but we managed to get our seats after 10 minutes of waiting. We ordered Goma Tan Tan Ramen (spicy soup with creamy sesame paste, ground pork, vegetables and green onions), Tonkotsu Ramen (home made fresh noodles in creamy pork broth with two pieces of chashu), Seafood Ramen (thin ramen noodles with assorted seafood served in a traditional Japanese broth, topped with green onions and seaweed) and Chicken Teriyaki (barbecue skinless chicken served in sweet teriyaki sauce with vegetables and steamed rice). Everything tasted delicious and very appetizing! Looking forward to try their X.O Mazemen and Rekka Yuzu Chicken on our next visit.

Google
It was okay. The spicy chicken ramen broth isnt very flavorful. The chicken was alright but it was cold. The tuna sushi had a weird dissolving/mushy texture and I think I saw a fruit fly land on it briefly. A bigger fly landed on the side of my head which killed my appetite. Can't blame anyone for this but still it doesn't feel great. Would not even care about this if the broth was better.

This is one of our favorite Japanese restaurants! The food is amazing and the service is quick. The only downside is that it can be a little hard to find at first and it’s a pretty small restaurant. The food is super authentic. I recommend the green tea cheesecake, it sounds really weird, but trust me, it tastes awesome. My 10 year old loved it.

Google
Service was attentive and friendly. I wasn't feeling to well when I went in and it honestly felt like the spicy chicken ramen breathed life back into me haha

Can't believe how fresh the food is and how fast the service. Is! What a delicious meal made with lots of love. Such great chefs and great customer service

Yelp
The salmon philly roll comes with 8 pieces and is ($10.25). I enjoyed the combination of the cream cheese with the raw salmon. Would order again!

Yelp
Not great for sushi, but the noodles were good. Overall sadly would not recommend. We tried 3 kinds of sushi rolls (geisha, unakyu and avo/cuke uramaki) and I did not enjoy any of them. Neither the fish nor the rice tasted fresh, and the excessive rice in all the rolls had a crumbly dryness which to me was unpalatable. I was especially disappointed at the expensive una-kyu, because I love eel, but the subtle taste was lost in a mass of crappy old stale rice. I ate half of one roll, for a 4/$8 price. Worst rolls I've had in a long time, worse than pre-made grocery store stuff! To add to the insult, the miso soup was watery and tasted like chicken broth, very weak. Did enjoy the "brothless ramen" mazamen, X.O. sauce version. Noodles have a good texture. Have had the ramen here and it was OK. So stick to the noodles, cuz the other Japanesey offerings seem to be suss at best.

Yelp
I don't know if I can add anything that hasn't already been said in other reviews. I was meeting my nephew here for a guys night out. Parking was easy one block south, but that's kind of disturbing because this is Whyte Ave on a Saturday evening. It was pretty quiet out there. The restaurant did fill up for an hour or so. We started with Hamachi Sashimi. It is from a fish called yellowtail. It was so tasty. I don't understand why cooked fish tastes so fishy but sashimi doesn't taste fishy at all. We then each ordered ramen. I had Spicy Chicken Ramen. Delicious and quite spicy. My nephew ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and he looked quite satisfied with it. We washed it down with Asahi beer. The server was attentive but never intrusive. What's not to like? The only problem was that I thought it was located in Allendale but if they were there they are gone now. They are located in the old Hospital For The Incurables (really it was called that - read the plaque by the front door). Once I knew that that is the location I was there in five minutes from Allendale. I'll be back and can easily give five stars.

Yelp
I was having a Japanese food craving so I ordered some food from here. Honesty for the price I paid I got a great deal for food. I got the seafood udon and various sushi rolls. The seafood udon was tasty. I liked the broth a lot. The seafood that came with it was one mussel, some shrimp, squid and fish cake. Overall tasty but nothing special. I got a chop chop uramaki roll, the yellowtail with green onions maki and the seal on skip the dishes gave me a free California roll. They were All great tasting and I had enough food for lunch and dinner. The yellowtail was a bit fishy but I think that might just be the way that yellowtail can be sometimes. Would definitely order from here again.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night after a visit to RAM because they take reservations. There are 2 locations and this one is in an older trendy area of Edmonton called Old Strathcona. There is street parking and we found a spot right in front. It's free after 6pm so we paid for 30 minutes. When we arrived we were seated promptly. We were meeting some friends from Edmonton and when they arrived we ordered. My kids shared the Tonkotsu Ramen and my wife got her own. I ordered the sushi combo and added 6 salmon sashimi. My friends ordered ramen and/or sushi. The sashimi and sushi were excellent. There also was a board oh fresh sushi specials they bring in. The Ramen however, was only okay. My family make it a point to go to lots of Ramen restaurants wherever we go. My daughter said the broth tasted a bit like cream corn soup. There was big hype about the restaurant making it's own noodles but it kinda fell flat. Service was great. The group enjoyed themselves. This is a great place for sashimi and sushi, but if you're looking for great Ramen I'd go somewhere else.

Jaime M.

Yelp
Horrible. Took them two hours to get the delivery person so instead of remaking the food, they sent me cold and soggy spring rolls. The tempura? Cold and soggy in my rolls as well. The rice was probably a couple days old at the very least, and the salmon was just a little too fishy. And Door Dash won't refund me. Don't waste your money here!!!

Yelp
We frequent Tokyo Noodle Shop because we dine very late (usually after 9pm) and their hours work for us. This isn't however the best place in the city to get sushi and I feel like the quality over the years is slowly going down. We ordered a few veggie rolls which were mediocre and consisted mainly of rice. We also got two bowls of the vegetable and tofu ramen with house made noodles. The photo on the menu looked beautiful with a bounty of fresh vegetables. I was pretty disappointed when our soup arrived with a few curls of green onions. Where were my broccoli, carrots, bok choy, peppers and sprouts? The noodles were nice but this dish was sorely disappointing. The restaurant is really cold and the chairs are ridiculously heavy. I know that seems like an odd thing to write, but you can actually hardly move them in and out of the table. The company I was dining with was pleasant so I wrote off the underwhelming menu but when I got home reflected that this was actually quite a poor experience.

Vincent S.

Yelp
Very mediocre experience. the sushi items are decently priced but a bit on the expensive end. The portion was smaller and was expecting higher quality for the price point

David G.

Yelp
Cant believe I have not reviewed this place yet. It is one of my go to places for sushi. So this time I got a bunch of sushi to take out due to covid. We picked a some rolls and they were all great and take out system worked like a charm.

Jenny H.

Yelp
Came here with a friend for supper - no wait time which was nice. Waitress was attentive and courteous. Service was also quite quick! My friend and I decided to try the rolls since the noodle dishes seemed to get mixed reviews. So we ordered a black and red dragon roll, along with a geisha roll. Honestly...The dragon rolls were alright...Really nothing too special. However, the geisha roll was pretty good. It's also cheaper. Make sure you check side cards on the table, cause that's where we looked. Overall, I do like the fact that it's quite convenient. I might try the other dishes like the unagi rice etc. But unless I have a sudden sushi craving and want something within minutes walking distance, I might explore my options. FYI: when we grabbed the chairs they were so heavy! I thought I was dragging a boulder...

Lydia F.

Yelp
It looks like a tiny restaurant but as you walk in it's a pretty large space. This is the third time I have been to this location and the staff is a hit or miss in friendliness. Today the server was extremely attentive and friendly but I was so hungry I could have chewed her arm off regardless of her demeanour. Since sitting down I counted about five doordash delivery orders. The ramen I ordered came extremely quickly piping hot and just like the photograph. The salmon maki wasn't as fresh as I would have liked. I also wished they had low sodium soy sauce available. Definitely a great place for a quick decent meal.

Jordon R.

Yelp
The food: the reason I come here isn't the food, it's actually the prices and how the menu is set up. I like that I can order an assortment of different items even though I don't particularly love the dishes here. It is quite good for people looking to try sushi for the first time. The service: the service here is consistently good during every visit I've had.

Natasha B.

Yelp
The food was good; I didn't have any thing too special, so not hard to mess up, but what got me was how I waited to be seated as a solo diner. I waited for at least 5 minutes and was barely acknowledged. A couple got seated before me who had come in a few minutes after me while I waited awkwardly. I was going to be seated at a dirty table for 4 and when I asked if I could sit near the window where there was ample seating, I was told those were tables only for 4. I was very confused that they were ok to seat me at the not very desirable table for 4 and said it was for 2. I was very confused that a table for 2 sat empty throughout my visit. I said I didn't want to sit at the table offered to me as I would like to have sat by the widows and the option they gave me was the bar, where a couple of motorcycle helmets and jackets from workers were placed. It was a Sunday evening and not that busy. They table for 2 by the window sat empty. I get why solo diners don't always get the desirable seats, but I felt very poorly treated., from waiting for quite some time while a couple behind me who had no reservation either got seated first, to weak service. I felt badly for the young lady who wanted to give me the good seat but was told by her seniors not to. The old saying, the way people make you feel will always be remembered is the theme of this review. Doesn't matter how good the food is, I am paying, I do tip well(not tonight) I am a nice person, and we all deserve the same treatment. If you don't care about rude/discriminatory practices, then you should go here.

Yelp
TL:DR - This place is pretty good but it varies from day to day! Not as consistent as I would expect a restaurant to be. Just to preface this all, I've gone there 3 times in the past week or two so I feel my review covers various aspects of this restaurant from food, to service, along with overall atmosphere and feel. The first time I went I had a bowl of tonkotsu ramen, and that was probably the best bowl of ramen I've had in a long time. I also ordered a regular dynamite roll on the side. The broth wasn't too salty and it was flavourful without being over powering, a sign of a good ramen broth (in my opinion of course). There were a lot of add-ons that you could have with your ramen but I chose to just keep it simple. The dynamite roll is a roll that you can't really go wrong with, it has a piece of shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, mayo and tobiko (fish eggs). All in all my first trip here left me with a good experience. I decided to go back this time with my wife after my first experience as we had been craving sushi. The place wasn't too busy, but it wasn't empty, probably about 5 tables of people scattered throughout the restaurant, with one group being a group of 8 or so. After looking over the menu we decided on the maki platter, rainbow rolls, the special king salmon pressed sushi and fried spring rolls as an appetizer. The service this second time was good, we didn't have to wait very long and they often checked back to make sure everything was okay with our meal. The food came quickly and it was everything we would expect. The spring rolls were hot... like really hot and they didn't taste too oily, which is always a plus. The rice from our rainbow roll and maki rolls were still a bit warm but not hot, the rainbow roll was well made, tightly wrapped, with fresh tasting toppings. The king salmon special pressed sushi wasn't bad because the fish tasted great, but it was exactly that just pressed into a square with no extra flair, just a pressed block of rice (sorta plain but the fish was the star I guess). My only complaint on that night was that the maki rolls were sorta sloppy, the cuts weren't clean and some rice spilled out of the sides but they were still tight and this is sorta nit picky. Everything tasted fine, and really that's all I personally care about. Last week, we were craving sushi again, so we walked on over to our new favourite Japanese restaurant, as we expected much of the same of what we had experienced before. We were seated fairly quickly however, this trip we were very disappointed with a lot of things. The service was slow despite us being the only ones in the restaurant, I will note that they did have a few take out delivery orders they were preparing, and I did take that in to consideration. We ordered, the spring rolls, vegetable tempura and prawn tempura (both half orders), a red dragon roll, a rainbow roll and pressed blue fin tuna. The tempura was about as perfect of a tempura as I could have expected. This time the rolls were again made very quickly, but I noticed that all the slices of fish were really thin, almost too thin for my liking, as if they were being cheap about the fish. The rainbow roll was okay, but again the thin fish on top sorta made it seem less than appealing. There was a lot of rice and it was sloppily rolled together. The pressed blue fin tuna were small pieces of tuna pressed on top of larger blocks of rice, and some of them had two pieces of fish, as if they made mistakes cutting and they just sorta threw them on top without any thought. After we finished, we sat for about 10-15 minutes without anyone bothering to ask if we wanted anything else or even the bill. After about 10 minutes I tried to wave someone down but no one seemed to notice us. Let me remark that the restaurant was fairly empty, just us and another table at this point, so yes it was busier but it was sorta ridiculous. I did notice that one of the girls serving was new so I don't blame her, but there were more experienced servers who I have seen before who I do blame. So this visit was just, so so. On the whole, we would come back here but it's not our top sushi place anymore. If you know of any place I should try feel free to message me!

Ali G.

Yelp
I don't often stop here, but this place offers some really decent comfort food for my happiness. For me, sushi is comfort food and this place delivers decently. It's not particularly unique, but I do like the variety of options offered on their menu. It's situated in a good spot on Whyte Avenue and sometimes by location alone, it's the right place for me to stop and grab a bite to eat, whether a rice bowl like chirashi or a bowl of soup or some sushi. If I wanted to nitpick, I would mention the tea and the soy sauce not being my varieties of choice, but really in general the restaurant is good and satisfies my sushi needs without being pretentious or offering anything unique that would cause me to go out of my way to seek it out.

Sally T.

Yelp
This Japanese is located on busy Whyte Avenue and one the long standing Japanese restaurants that have stood the test of time in Edmonton. I find the sashimi very fresh here and the prices on the menu are not unreasonable. I came here with a friend on a Tuesday at about 4:30pm for an early dinner. We were greeted by a friendly server who with a pleasant smile. It wasn't overly busy at this point but there were 3 other tables occupied. We ordered the takoyaki, rainbow roll and the assorted 18 piece sashimi. All dishes were beautifully presented and the sashimi tasted fresh. I was satisfied with my whole experience and will be back.

Kimiko P.

Yelp
One of my absolute favourite sushi places in town! I've been coming here for years now, and it's been consistently awesome the entire time. Portion sizes are large, the fish tastes fresh, and the sushi is all reasonably priced. If you're not into raw fish, try the Dragon on Whyte roll! It's so so good. There is a large selection, so there's something for everyone on the menu. As others have said, service is excellent, but infrequent. They take your order, bring you food, and that's about it. I like no frills service, so I don't super mind this. Also the chairs are HEAVY. I have no idea what they are made of to weigh as much as they do... But hey, you burn a few extra calories pulling out the chair before you gorge yourself on delicious food ;)

C. H.

Yelp
We wanted to try ramen but Ninja Club was closed so we ended up here! We all ended up ordering ramen. I ordered a bowl of pork ramen. It tasted decent. It is not comparable to Vancouver's ramen, but passible! The pork slices were lean and tasted good. I did not like the fact that you have to pay $2 for a soft boiled egg. It should be standard rather than the half hard boiled egg served. Overall, not quite authentic ramen, but pretty good for what it was. Server also failed to mention tea was extra when she asked what drink we wanted. She brought over a tea pot and everyone was charged for tea whether or not the person drank tea. For a noodle shop, the menu is more focused on the sushi and sashimi. There was udon as well. It would be amazing if the restaurant made all the noodles in house.

Priya K.

Yelp
I love that they have a number of different Japanese items on the menu such as ramen, sushi and udon. I went to try the ramen and the sushi. I got the pork ramen, this was great and flavorful. It comes with a half of a boiled egg, pork, green onion and corn. I also ordered 3 pieces of yellowtail sashimi, 3 pieces of toro and an order of large dynamite rolls. The sashimi was actually quite good but I found the rolls to be too big to eat (I like them more bite size). Overall the food was enjoyable, not too many great Japanese restaurants in Edmonton, but the service was terrible. The place was relatively busy but it took 15 minutes after we arrived before anyone took our order and 30 minutes after we arrived before we got a glass of water. They have lots of chefs but only two servers who move extremely slowly. If the service wasn't so terrible they could easily be a 4 for their food.

Brianna H.

Yelp
This is definitely my favourite sushi place in Edmonton. The rainbow roll is amazing, between the super fresh fish on top and the crunchy tempura inside. Fantastic, it's a sign how fresh things are when even with delivery the hot rolls are hot, things are appropriately crispy. Just fantastic. The salmon sashimi is fantastic, same with the deep fried spicy tuna rolls. We order from the probably once a week and are never disappointed!

Iman M.

Yelp
I got the assorted sushi platter ($18.50) which came with 8 pieces of sushi (all different) and 6 salmon maki rolls. The sushi was good, with reasonable sized cuts of fish on top, and for the price, I think it was a good deal. My only issue with this place was the service- we were with a large group so it's understandably slow, but all our drink orders were mixed up and the food came out in large gaps (one person was pretty much done eating when another just got their food). Irrelevant to my overall experience but the chairs are so heavy! I knocked my knee on one while trying to push it in when leaving and bruised myself haha

Stephie L.

Yelp
Since trying out different japanese places to eat, this is probably the only place I always go back to and won't get sick of. I have a very picky man at home who likes his sushi made a specific way, and the staff and chef's there are willing to accomodate his needs and sometimes even go far and beyond to meet them to make sure we're happy. Also their ramen bowls are absolutely amazing and so is their udon bowls. I haven't had a chance to try out their rice bowls but you can be sure to see me around there again trying out all their dishes on the menu.

Caroline M.

Yelp
This is my go to for a mid level Japanese restaurant. They have plenty of options for plant based/vegan eating. I mostly order from Skip the Dishes, however, I had the delight of visiting them. It's in a beautiful brick building on the further west end of Whyte. Inside you can see the kitchen staff working away in an organized kitchen. I really liked the tasteful and laid back decor. It wasn't too loud and is a great place for catching up with someone. What drew me to this place is the nice selection of plant based options that are simple and healthy. They've even customized my Cha Han to exclude eggs. I've enjoyed all they have to offer that is plant only. My visit confirmed my affection for their wonderful and delicious menu items. The place was beautiful without being too pretensious. I will mostly order in. But they are my go to for everyday sushi.

Amabel D.

Yelp
The service was great, but that is about the only great thing about this place. Everything else is OK at best. I wasn't a fan of either the ramen that I had or the sushi. They just didn't have the options that I was looking for I guess. To be honest the menu is kind of boring. It says "Noodle Shop" but there are only some very plain looking noodle options and the rest is just other japanese restaurant items. I mean why advertise as a noodle shop if you don't really sell noodles? I would think that would be the main feature on your menu. Anyway I tried the vegetarian ramen and it was honestly just good. Not great. Just plain noodles. We also got some sushi which was great, but we kind of felt like we needed to get the sushi to enhance our meal a bit. The decor is pretty, but the chairs are so randomly heavy? I was very surprised by the weight of these chairs, its like I have to do a deadlift just to pick it up and pull it out. Our server was very kind and helpful, although she did forget to bring us water. So by the time we had out ramen and sushi we had to walk up to her and ask her for water. She was apologetic, and its not a big deal to us. She had a warm smile which is always nice to see.

Marc H.

Yelp
Excellent. Service was a little lack luster, but the food was awesome. The sushi was fresh and delicious, love the crab puffs. It was very clean and well run.

Fitzy H.

Yelp
1 of good sushi place in town! They're not always crowded-which is good when u're hungry! the service pretty quick and of course good sushi!!! Price is also affordable!

Ryan T.

Yelp
Went here expecting a noodle shop. Its basically just another Japanese restaurant. We ordered tobiko, chasu ramen and gyu don. The tobiko was fresh, most likely a new package, the sushi rice was also good with that slight vinegar tang. The chasu ramen was.... Mediocre at best. Chasu was nice and tender but extremely thin portioned. The noodles were good, chewy and properly cooked. The broth just tasted more of soy than anything else. The egg was definitely hardboiled. The gyu don wasnt memorable but wasn't bad. Beef was overcooked. Also, the iced tea tastes like it was made from the powder mix lol.

Muhammad M.

Yelp
The food in this restaurant is mediocre at best..we ordered a number of items and none of them were good...the location is nice...overall i will not recommend this place...much better options available for japanese food in that area...

Ashley M.

Yelp
I'm a pretty big fan of sushi. Especially sushi that is very reasonably priced! On average I will go out to sushi probably once every two weeks, however it is often to Miyako's in Sherwood Park. But Tokyo Noodle Shop (TNS) is definitely my first choice! If I can convince my friends to do the extra drive there, I would go there every chance I've got. The restaurant is really quaint and comfortable. Be warned! The chairs look normal but, in fact, are super heavy and sometimes difficult to move! The service is quick and friendly! And the menu has a really large selection. I always check out the different kinds of maki rolls at sushi restaurants and TNS has my favorite rolls! You must try their Chef's Spicy Uramaki and their Deep Fried Spicy Tuna! Om nom nom. If you're a vegetarian, they have a large selection of meat-free maki so you're not stuck eating boring cucumber maki all the time. They also have an amazing bean sprout salad that I really enjoy. The only food that I don't care for at this restaurant is their miso soup. They have chunks of seaweed in theirs, and I'm not a fan of that. If you're searching for creative, interesting sushi that's not too pricey, I definitely suggest this restaurant. In fact, I'm craving their food right now. Might have to swing over there! -Ashley Marie

Yelp
Best sushi I've had yet in Edmonton, hands down. I'm originally from Victoria BC where I was spoiled on many, many awesome sushi restaurants on the coast, and Tokyo Noodle House is still better than many of my favourite places back home, where many other sushi restaurants in AB just can't compare. I typically only order Sushi or Tempura dishes, and all of them are always fresh and delicious. Portion sizes are typical, decor is nice with large windows to look out over Whyte Ave while you're eating, and staff are very friendly. Service has always been excellent, with waits only getting long during exceptionally busy dinner rushes which you can't really fault them for. Pro-tip: I've found they are quite generous when ordering Nigiri pieces, the hunk of fish on top tends to be significantly larger than most other places. Be warned though, as many others have pointed out...their chairs are incredibly heavy for some reason. Seriously like 40 pounds heavier than what you'd expect when looking at them. I swear they're doing this as a prank and one day they'll swap them out with identical looking chairs that weigh nothing and we'll all accidentally throw them through a window.

Christianne C.

Yelp
I went to Tokyo Noodle Shop on saturday and as a person who doesn't usually care for sushi, I have to say... It was good!! I had tuna, avocado and salmon maki. The tuna was yummy- not fishy at all. And the price was awesome- for 6 pieces it was $4.95. For 2 orders of maki and green tea was $10. Service was ok, however their knowledge of ingredients in their food was not great. I was a little afraid that some items included gluten, so I stuck with maki. The decor is cute but yes, the restaurant is not big. I would definetly go back and recommend this place. The prices are great and the ingredients nice and fresh.

R H.

Yelp
This place has the best sushi I have ever had! Definitely a gem in this city. Tons to choose from off the menu and they make it fresh right in front of you.

Jason L.

Yelp
Noodles, baby, noodles! I don't really come here for the sushi or sashimi, but we often get a roll or assorted nigiri to go with the ramen. And, that's what this place is really about, great ramen in soup. Each serving of soup is huge and more than a meal. London might have Wagamama, but Edmonton has Tokyo Noodle House. In Japan, ramen is the lunch staple. You pass by noodle bar after noodle bar with contented customers slurping away. Tokyo Noodle House serves quality ramen at a good price on Whyte Avenue.

Roy H.

Yelp
Although I've never had a bad dish at TNS, by far my favorite is the tuna & salmon sashimi. It literally melts in your mouth. The staff are pleasant, the atmosphere welcoming, and the location is central. I have eaten here regularly for a few years and have never been disappointed.

Kiera S.

Yelp
We ordered the gyoza, veggie ramen & chicken ramen. The food was not favorable and over priced. The gyoza was way to small and the pork was underpriced.

Rei D.

Yelp
I love this place, amazing food! Watch out though, the service is extremely slow and the chairs are super super heavy. If you have the time for a longer dinner and don't like to be disturbed by waitresses, this is your place. The rolls are amazing, the ramen is to die for. I can't speak for their tempura as I haven't had it yet. The tuna rolls are my favourite, and if you get the chance go for the spicy geisha roll!

Aditya R.

Yelp
I find Tokyo Noodle to be sort of average. Their sushi is okay, almost like sushi that you'd pick up in a take out place or from Superstore or something. They have a small but decent list of Noodle options but as noted by others, it's nothing out of the box or authentic. It's decently tasty but also has that disappointing aura of "been here done that" that Whyte Ave seems to have so much of. Having said that, I would certainly come here every now and then since it's a couple of blocks from my place and is reasonably affordable. Also, a good place to come to when you're under weather. A hot, brothy noodle soup could do wonders to any sort of illness you might have, even if you're just filled with ill will! The service is decent and the staff are friendly. I particularly like the large glass windows that give patrons an opportunity to people watch and scribble out the Hamiltonian of the Universe in their lovely Semikolon books

Kristina B.

Yelp
Hands down the best tonkotsu I have had thus far in all of Edmonton is from none other than Tokyo Noodle Shop. Think lovely noodles that have just the right amount of firmness bathed in rich, savory broth that you know was boiled for hours and hours and hours and then topped with a generous serving of chashu and all those lovely vegetable garnish. Those who say that Nudoru serves the best ramen on Whyte Ave. are clearly, clearly mistaken...because Tokyo Noodle Shop does! And I speak from a position of knowledge given that I come from a country that has excellent ramen shops (the Philippines) and I've travelled countless times to Japan for these countless bowls of goodness. So trust me on this one!

Yelp
The tuna to Tochi is the greatest and all of Edmonton. Sushi is fairly priced and good quality pretty much every time we come. I skip going to the gym because the chairs weigh 100 pounds so I get my work out and then I have ice cream! Always good food and busy with good service

Yelp
Food was good, pricing was reasonable and service was good! Everything was good so far, I would come backs some time to try other Japanese food!

Yelp
Agree with Justin C.'s review, the ramen is pathetic. I have had real ramens before in other places that tasted heavenly for half the price! And they charge for green tea too. (Why do most Japanese places in Edmonton charge for green tea? It's just water and some leaves! Most cosmopolitan cities' Japanese restaurants serve them complimentary.) Like one other person I met said, the instant noodle you buy for $1-2 dollars at the grocery tastes better than the noodles at this place. I totally agree. Save yourself $10.50 for ramen at this place, go to T&T to buy a packed instant noodle, and spend the rest to watch a nice movie. You'll have a better time.

Yelp
I like this place and its sleek urban look. Good selection of rolls, well-priced bento boxes, and yummy noodles. Often have great daily specials, including seafood. Try the scallops or oysters misonaise if on special. Their selection of izakaye (tapas-like starters) could be better. Parking can be an issue. And some of the nigiri prices seem a little high compared to others nearby. Also be careful moving the chairs. They are made of steel and are the heaviest chairs I've ever seen in a restaurant.

Yelp
Great little place, reasonable prices, very friendly and prompt service- way better the chain restaurant with the similar name (***** Express)

Yelp
Nice atmosphere. Good North-American style Japanese food - that is sushi rolls and rice dishes prepared to perfection. Sashimi and Sushi seem fresh. Ramen soup (the main reason we went in the first place) was flavorful but NOT authentic. Although the soup is tasty, it really isn't Ramen-like in either the broth flavor or noodles. Don't get me wrong, if you have never had REAL Ramen noodle soup before, this soup is great and your ignorance will be bliss. Having said that, when a place calls itself "Tokyo Noodle House", I expect fresh made noodles (not Ichiban) and a soothing warm-your-cockles broth that is distinctly RAMEN. All in all, nice place, good taste, solid service with no out-of-the-ordinary menu items. Great for people expecting North-American style Japanese food.

Yelp
I've just begun to whet my taste buds on the delicacy that is sushi. I've been for sushi a handful of times and every time I go, I come here. I love the atmosphere, the staff and the location. Oh ya and the food is awesome! My friend got me hooked on Sashimi and their Mexican Roll. But you can't forget tempura shrimp or their Whyte Dragon Roll. The selection is astounding and I'm always trying something different whenever I visit. For a person who wants to try sushi for the first time, come here. They have some great rolls and other dishes that will definitely having you coming back to try more.

Yelp
I took my aunt out to this restaurant when she was visiting from Vancouver. We walked down Whyte and ran into this stranger, and he recommended Tokyo Noodle. He was a bit on the heavy side, we're talking like Santa here, so we decided to trust his opinion. It's a nice place; the restaurant is on a low floor, and there are small tables to accommodate lots of intimate groups. You can see some of the chefs working in one corner of the room. I don't remember the food being mesmerizing, but it was still pretty good, and fresh. Fresh is always important! I think I had the california rolls and tempura. The rolls weren't overly stuffed with rice and the tempura was crispy and not too greasy. Just how they should be. The price isn't too bad for this place either. You're paying a little more for quality sushi that actually tastes like sushi, but you're paying less than you would at some ultra-sleek restaurant like Mikado.

Yelp
I usually am a very patient person, and I absolutely LOVE the food here so this is purely based on an interaction I had. I work as a waitress and I deal with the Uber eats app all the time. I ordered from here from Uber eats and the order was way past the latest time without an assigned driver. I tried contacting support with no luck and eventually called the restaurant to reach out. The server on the other end kept insisting that the order was ready and they needed the driver. I explained that I knew what was going on and that they needed to click confirm or that the order was ready (I've made this mistake at work myself so I knew what was going on). She ended up hanging up on me so I called her back and tried once more to explain that they needed to press something on the app. She realized I was right and basically went silent and told me it was ubers fault... I soon got the driver assigned (after explaining how to do that) but it was so frustrating to be waiting two hours with zero helpful communication with the restaurant when I was very kind and trying to help on the phone. I feel bad giving this review but I'm just beyond frustrated and this is my only way to get it out!! Customer service matters, even if the food is really good.

Yelp
Really? I haven't written a review for Tokyo Noodle Shop yet? That's so odd to come, considering I freaking love it here. This is definitely one of my go-to spots for an easy dinner on Whyte Avenue. A lot of the dishes are very western-ized, too, so it seems to be a place that everyone can agree on. It's in a gorgeous old brick building, I think one of the best buildings on Whyte. You might even be so overwhelmed by the grandeur of this old beauty that you might just walk on past Tokyo or its next-door neighbour, Artisan. But stop! And come inside for a feast of tasty treats :) I like their teriyaki dishes, and when I'm feeling vegetarian, the plate comes with tofu instead. Yummy! Also, a very easy way to eat a vegetarian meal without limiting myself to cucumber maki or a salad. It's not a huge restaurant, so you're really not guaranteed a table. Service has always been fine here, and the decor is kind of cute and kitschy. I definitely recommend this place, especially for a Japanese-food newbie - lots of "safe" dishes to order!

Yelp
Basic North American style Japanese food restaurant. Good for trying sushi/maki for the first time. From my experience this is good for a quick feed your tummy kind of dinner. If I were to go out for dinner for the "experience" there are a few other Japanese restaurants I would go to instead. However, it is reasonably priced with reliable Japanese food options. Good choice for a quick snack or filling meal when spending time on Whyte Ave.
