Tokyo Tavern is hands-down the best Sushi Restaraunt in Dutchess County...and maybe even the entire Hudson Valley.
I lived in Manhattan for 20 years, and I can say with confidence that Tokyo Tavern bests 95%+ of the sushi restaurants in NYC. So being the best in the Hudson Valley is actually a layup in that context!
I have been to Japan, and Tokyo Tavern holds its own even amongst the best sushi restaurants in Tokyo and Kyoto.
Be sure to try the Seafood Soup, with generous portions of Shrimp, Crabmeat, Scallops, a fantastic home made broth, and vegetable goodies to boot.
The fish is phenomenal, and the reason why is because Tokyo Tavern does not use the distributors that all of the other sushi joints in the HV use - the owner personally goes down to the Seaport in Manhattan for all of the fish served at Tokyo Tavern. Tokyo Tavern was actually open for over 15 years in Manhattan (Midtown East), so it's no wonder that it is far better than anything else in the HV. Competition makes things good, and you will notice the difference!
Be sure to ask the chef about any specials as they often have some hidden gems on offer.
I don't eat rolls because I prefer sushi and sashimi, so I can't personally vouch for those, but I've seen many a platter of sushi rolls come out of the kitchen and they look fantastic! I really should try a roll sometime, but the sushi and sashimi is so good that I just stick with what I love.
The decor is simple traditional Japanese style. But let's be honest - you're coming here for the fish!
Highly Recommended!
