Disgusting dirty hotel|We booked a holiday package with Hays travel UK and this was one of the hotels allocated to us, the reviews weren’t two bad so we went along with their booking. We were to spend 10 nights here but spent none as we left soon as we saw the room. |The hotel was scruffy and dirty, definitely in need of an upgrade.|The room allocated to us was on the second floor, there was no lift so had to hump our cases up the stairs that needed a good vacuum.|The Chinese chap on reception was nice enough and helped us with one case up the stairs, then explained to us that the rooms only get cleaned every 4 days!!!|As you will see in the photos, the room was dirty, the wardrobe had a handle missing exposing a sharp screw, the bathroom door had what looked like food over it, the bathroom was dirty and tiny, the bed was rickety don’t think it would have lasted long.|We where shown another room but that was just as bad|I did speak to the hotel manager on the phone and told her we were leaving as the hotel was in poor condition, she never questioned me and said she would refund the money to the 3rd party. |We are now out of pocket as we had to book another hotel, but it was worth it to get away from that horrible hotel|Advice do not stay there

A little known gem. Spacious rooms and bathrooms. Cool artworks everywhere. Nice staff. Quiet rooms despite being on Fitzroy Street. Have stayed here a few times.

This is a great value for money hotel. It doesn’t stack up against a 5 * hotel, but it’s not priced as one. For the price point though this is a great spot to stay. I would start again for sure.

Poorly maintained hotel. We were greeted with a dark, fully closed up hotel- broken glass on 1 inside door to what appears to be a bar. The entire building is a run-down dump and the room does not match the photographs on the website. I cannot believe this hotel has a 4 star status since its closer to a 2 star level. Took a stack of photos just to make sure they don't claim we damaged the room. Found mould on the blinds, a dirty freezer with god-knows-what in it, and a complete lack of cleaning other than the bathroom bare necessitates and bed linen.

Where do I start The room was super small Stains all over the floor Bed also had stains on it The bathroom was small you couldn't turn around without walking into the toilet The shower had mold in it the bathroom sink had living bugs . There was no clean UNUSED soap no condition or shampoo only USED soap left .. the bins still had rubbish in them both from the people before us. The TV only got 2 channels the footy and horse racing . The bed and pillows made us itching all night. 1 window that we couldn't even look out as the blind wouldn't open The front desk didn't show us where our room was when we got there we had 2 find it ourselves they didn't care about our complaints at all . Last but not least we had to park away in a different hotel we couldn't park at the hotel . The bar and restaurant were never open on a Saturday or Saturday night . I will never stay or recommend this hotel to anyone I wish I didn't have to pay for it as it wasn't worth the money!!

Terrible experience. I developed bed bug bites soon after staying at the hotel. I informed the hotel but did not receive a response. The rooms are tired and badly in need of renovation.

I booked the Mirkas Studio on 17th May for my weekend stay from 8 - 10 June. I live quite far away and decided to stay in a more comfortable studio room for the long weekend. I called the hotel receptionist at 6.15 pm on 8th June and said I am 15 mins away and would like to know if the Tolarno has parking. The receptionist said "yes we do at $10.00 a day. I agreed to take parking for these two days. I said to the receptionist, when I get to the hotel, where do I park? He said verbtim "you can park directly outside the hotel." As it turned out there was a car space directly outside the hotel when I arrived. I didn't want to leave my car unattended so I called the hotel again and the same receptionist answered. I said I am worried leaving my car here as I don't want to get a fine. He told me I would be fine and that I just had to come in and pay for my car parking voucher. He told me to display it on my dashboard so I ran outside and as instructed put the parking voucher on my dashboard. I was then told to go to Level 1 for my room. Please note there is no lift in this hotel so I lug my bags up a set of stairs. I open my room number and it's tiny, the smallest room ever and nothing like what I booked. Also the walls are paper thin, it sounded like my room was right underneath a staircase and it sounded like baby elephants stomping above me. I immediately went back to this same receptionist and explained, there seems to be a mistake. I booked the Mirkas Studio room. The receptionist argued with me and told me that I didn't book the Mirkas Studio and that I booked a standard room. I showed him my Agoda booking which blatantly said I was booked in the Mirkas Studio Room. There was no apology from this receptionist. He said 'I don't understand what has happened but we don't have your room available anymore. There was no apology, he basically told me to go back to my small standard awful room that I never booked. I went back to this depressing room. I sent the info@tolarno.com.au email address an email at 6.45 pm. I was dissatisfied at the lack of customer service I had received from the non apologetic receptionist. The next morning at 10.30 am, I called the same unapologetic receptionist. I asked when my studio room would be available. He said in around an hour. I then was given the key at 11.30 am to check into my one day late studio room. I walk into the room feeling better than the awful room I was in before. I look out the window and see a car parking fine of $115 displayed on my windscreen. I now go downstairs and tell this awful receptionist about what has happened. He blatantly lies to my face and tells me he told me to park at the back of the hotel. This never happened. In the 3 conversations we had about parking at no point did he ever mention parking at the back of the hotel. I decided to leave after this, my weekend at that rate was going down the drain given how bad this hotel receptionist had made my stay. Firstly getting my reservation wrong, secondly displaying no apology or empathy for getting my booking wrong and finally for causing me to get a car parking fine for telling me 3 times to park in front of the hotel. Please avoid this hotel at all costs. I have told all my friends and family never to stay here. In 36 hours since leaving, I never received so much as an email from the manager. I was told he was away. Well if management wants to leave someone in charge that can't effectively communicate with guests, this is the end result. Also nobody is there to take your call after 7 pm so if you have a bad experience there is nobody around to assist you.

Yelp
Worst experience. Was given a tiny noisy standard room when I booked a studio for 2 nights. The receptionist was the rudest person I have ever met. He told me to pay for parking at hotel reception and park exactly in front of the hotel with the car parking voucher on my dash which is what I did. I had to move rooms 24 hours later to the studio room I booked as the receptionist gave my booking to someone else. So I move into my booked Studio 1 day late and look out the window and I have a parking fine on my windscreen. The hotel receptionist denied he told me to park out the front. I packed up and left. Hands down the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. It's seedy and it smells.

Yelp
Customer service. Remember that? Well the staff at the Tolarno go out of their way to make you feel like their only guest. I originally booked my room via wotif for a date that ultimately did not suit. So, I e-mailed the Tolarno & they were more than happy to change my booking to a date that did suit. On arrival I had a warm greeting & in the middle of the night when I arrived back to the hotel - quite tipsy to say the least, the reception helped me choose a DVD from their extensive collection - a free service. The Tolarno is filled with visual eye candy. Art pieces are hung on every spare wall. I spent a good hour or so browsing the pieces in the homely hallways. My room was modern, clean and the mini bar was very well stocked. Coffee & tea making facilities and also a microwave. My room had a gorgeous Japanese spa in it and a very large shower with hot water never ending. As I left my room I saw the cleaning lady who gave me a bright smile & was very chirpy. I really enjoyed my stay at the Tolarno & my experience there does make me want to return if I ever need to stay in St Kilda again.

Yelp
Stayed here back in January during the Australian open. A colleague had booked the hotel and I had checked the web site, reviews, etc. before agreeing but was completely confused when I arrived. Have you ever seen those advertisements on TV where a family books a beautiful looking resort for their vacation and they up to find a nightmare scenario? That was Tolarno for me. Staff: The staff always seemed high. Friendly enough but not very professional....and well....they always seemed high....not just a little....like WAY high. Facilities: Business Center? Well, if a computer and printer are a business center....sure...but....not really. Room: This was terrifying. Terrifying. The artwork was an assault on my eyes due to how aggressive it was in terms of color and content. I want to RELAX in my room after a day of working. It was tiny....if I say on the toilet, I had to sit at an angle as the bathroom sink was against my chest. I guess this would be convenient if I were drinking heavily and needed to use the toilet while vomitting. It might be the only way I would find this hotel acceptable. Parking: They claim to have parking, but it basically means you can park on the straight a few blocks away. Combine that with having to walk in an area where people generally party hard and the random crazies on the streets and it becomes a very undesirable concept. Confusion: Look at the web site.....then look at the real place. The pictures are not falsified but they must have hired one hell of a photographer. Absolutely not kid friendly: Risque artwork even in the lobby and lounge area....who knows what is in some of the rooms......
