Really great food, my kids got the mini-bowl and loved basics, the tomato rice, the beans, the corn. I got the adult bowls and was very impressed. All the food tasted great and very authentic. Very reasonably priced. Really friendly people. I gave 5-star for atmosphere but note that this is a basic take-out place with basic seats in a hole-in-the-wall location. Perfect for a casual quick bite.

Delicious food! We got a burrito bowl and a salad, so good. I highly recommend this family owned and operated restaurant. The food was fresh and so yummy. The girl that helped us was polite, friendly and so helpful. She explained how the murals are of her mother and grandmother and explained how her and her mom made the greenery focal wall together. I love it. Hope to be back soon.

Super cozy place! I work in the same building and really appreciate the authenticity. The food is great and they have a great meat variety. The meat is extremely tasty and everyone is super friendly which I love. Every now and then I stop by during my lunch for my authentic Mexican food cravings, definitely recommend!

Tomatillo is an excellent authentic Mexican restaurant that is very similar to Chipotle. All of the ingredients were very fresh, even at closing time. The staff was very friendly and willing to serve us despite closing in about 30 minutes. Especially for an area that doesn't have too many close by restaurant options in Palos Verdes, this is a great find!

Tried the quesadillas, enchiladas, tortas, street corn and tacos. It was all amazing. Highly recommend the street corn. Beyond the food, service was great. It came under new ownership recently. The family that owns it is incredibly friendly and we had a great time just talking to them. The restaurant is very cute and hip. There is a nice amount of outdoor seating as well. Prices are also very reasonable 10-15 for the entree with rice and beans and toppings, which gives quite a bit of food.

This family owned Mexican restaurant deserves all the love! Came here today for lunch, and everyone in the family got a dish that suited their dietary needs. One of the reasons this place is awesome is because they offer vegan options! We ordered the vegan carnitas and it was so good!!! Kids ordered a steak burrito, chicken burrito, and a bean and cheese burrito. The burritos were huge and delicious!!! We all finished it. What's even cooler is that they make it in front of you, and you pick everything that goes inside. You select everything from the rice, beans, meat, toppings, salsa, EVERYTHING! The best part is that service is awesome. Everyone working there is so friendly, and made sure everyone in our party was happy. You can eat inside or outside. The art inside is pretty cool. They had Kobe on the wall, so they get an extra 1000 points for that.

Love this place ! a true family owned business! Vegan options too!! I wasn't ordering but another customer was and the staff let me try these options! Yum! flavorful and a great texture. My go to is the Steak or chicken burrito! And hubbies is the chimichanga! ask for it and they will make it ! He also loves the enchiladas. But let me not forget to add.... the best churros I have ever had! they are dangerously addicting! and good to share and have the next day! We are always welcomed with a smile and a treated like family when we call or go in. I see this with every customer ! You can eat there ( inside or out) they have a few seats and the colors and art work are invigorating and festive. When in the area , you can even pick up your food and great for a picnic ! while enjoying the views!

Excellent place for Mexican food! This is a family run business that serves up great fast casual Mexican eats. My girlfriend and I came here yesterday and were greeted by Ricky and his team. Ricky is super friendly and made us feel very welcome. I ordered 4 tacos: 2 chicken, 1 steak, and 1 barbacoa and the barbacoa was the star of the show! The meat was cooked perfectly and had a bunch of flavor. The steak was cooked well too and the chicken was juicy. We came during sunset time and it was very nice to sit outside the restaurant and enjoy your food. I will say I wish they had fish/shrimp tacos on the menu - that would really elevate things here, but overall a great spot to come eat at or just order to go. Would highly recommend for anyone in the area looking for a delicious plate of tacos or a burrito.

Just a super place for a quick and local CaliMex style "create your own" meal. Wonderful service. Very tasty food and amazing homemade everything. Especially the guacamole! We all got bowl style burritos and there's many ways to customize. Abundant portions very fresh ingredients and tasty. I was seriously impressed! Gonna be my new local PV go to Mexican.

The place is super casual and has a small dining area. This is the first time I have ordered from here. I ordered take out and ate at home. I ordered a wet carne asada burrito and it was okay. The size was average. The green sauce I ordered was tasty. It had rice and beans inside with the meat but even with the sauce on top, it was still dry and lacking in flavor. It was under seasoned and bland. I love Mexican food but I found this burrito to be a disappointment. Compared to other Mexican restaurants, this one was lacking in flavor. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture.

Colorful and quiet even though it's inside a shopping mall, it is off to the side. Salad just okay due to shreds of iceberg lettuce that doesn't hold up but rice and beans and chicken very fresh and tasty lots of good salsa too. The tacos were excellent especially the carnitas. Didn't like the chipotle mayo thought it would be less mayo and more flavorful...people were caring and helpful which was very nice!

My family and I really enjoy Tomatillo Mexican Grill. Not only is The food is really good, and they offer a great selection of options. The atmosphere is very welcoming. The restaurant is very colorful and the staff is so friendly. They also have great desserts, the tres leches cake was really tasty!

Absolutely lovely Everyone was so friendly from the moment we walked through the door You order at the counter and customize your dish based on your preference or toppings (like you would at a Chipotle except a million times more delicious). Everything is fresh and tasty with so many different options that I want to come back every single meal! They got busy while we were there but they were able to handle all of the customers without any issues We ate in the restaurant which was so cute and homey We will be back again. Highly recommend!

This little gem is a hidden treasure of delicious food ,flavorful, reasonable priced . Definitely worth taking a little drive to Rancho Palos Verdes. You'll be planning your next trip for tacos as soon as you try them. Treat your taste buds right and give this place a go.

Always friendly service and great Mexican food on the hill. Tucker away at the back of the mall, but definitely should not be missed. The breakfast burritos are solid and for lunch/dinner, you can beat a bowl with warm tortillas to make a DIY taco.

Tomatillo is my go to for comfort food! Absolutely! They get my order down perfectly each time, which I greatly appreciate. The moment I walk the service from the staff is always kind and very attentive. It's a great place to go when you just want to get away and have a great, delicious, authentic Mexican dish!. I have to also mention the murals that they've selected are very nice, which brings a personalized touch to the overall ambiance. Well done! Thank you!

I can't say enough good things about this place. BEST BURITO Iv ever had. I live closer to east LA but have family over here. So every time I come I have to get a burrito. The jalapeño ranch is the best!! ‍ always so fresh and so good to reheat in a pan to crisp up the tortilla for left overs. Also I hear they will make anything if you ask. So I guess there's some secret menus items ie. Enchiladas, crunch wraps, and tostada!

Love these guys! Always have exactly what we want at a fair price. The folks behind the counter are friendly, and do exactly what they're supposed to.

The concept here is similar to chipotle. I ordered the spy chorizo and potatoes. You can add: cheese, onions, guacamole, poco de gallo, lettuce, etc. the burrito was a little too salty but everything else was pretty good. I also ordered agua de jamica which was a little too sugary. The tacos or burritos come with a side of chips and salsa.

Tomatillo is located in the Trader Joe's strip mall next to the seafood market. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. You order your food at the counter. The customer service was satisfactory and the chips were crunchy and fresh. I had the three taco combo with one corn and two flour shells; they were bland and just not good. But the worst part was the guacamole it was the worst I've ever had. It tasted like watered down store bought from a cheap grocery store. I do not recommend and won't go there again.

Only come hear for this place MAINLY for their Elotes! Their food is by far one of the most places that is a flavorful authentic Mexican food places in this area. Even though their prices increase and at times their protein portions are not the same, they are really really good! Come by and try their burritos or bowls, I would say better than Chipotle to be honest. ESPECIALLY did I say their Elotes already?!

They use soy oil in the fryer, so no crispy tacos or taquitos for me. Luckily soft corn tortillas are soy-free. Decent tacos, pick exactly the ingredients you want. Good horchata.

Food here is always great and the people are extremely friendly. This is one of our regular, goto spots in PV. While tacos, burritos and bowls keep us coming back, today I smelled cake! Apparently, Rosa makes the tres leches cakes from scratch. I never noticed they had them on the menu, but I tried one and they are ridiculously good. I'm not sure I can go there anymore without buying one every time. In fact, we might be making special trips just for the cake - it's that good. Go try it all!

We found Tomatillo via Yelp. Thanks for pointing us in that direction. Collectively we order 2 enchilada plates - one vegan and one with Carnitas, and a 3 taco plate with an order of street corn. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They recommended the Carnitas, their most popular protein, and what a great suggestion. They checked on us several times to make sure we were enjoying our meals or needed anything. Each plate was beautifully presented and generously portioned. Everything was very fresh and of great quality. A selection of beers, sodas and water are available. We truly enjoyed our meal and experience at Tomatillo.

Great food and nice staff. They can make a pretty healthy salad bowl that also tastes great. The kids love the quesadilla.

4 of us ordered different plates. The flavor of the tender meat (steak, pork, and chicken) bursts in your mouth! What a GEM! Volume is really good, too. So much better than Red Onion on the hill.

It's in a very strange location , one you wouldn't stumble across so you have to seek it out Plenty of parking in the area I really enjoyed the tacos. It's sort of like subway or chipotle where they let you identify the ingredients you want. Unlike subway , this is fresh. Given the high number of Mexican gardeners eating there , I'd say it's a vote for authenticity. And I'm all for that. I asked one of them what they usually fit and followed suit. 3.5 stars My hubby liked his burrito and felt it was worth 4 stars. I didn't like my food as much and gave it 3 stars. However, the service is friendly and it's nice supporting a mom and pop restaurant. The guacamole here needs work--it's too watery and flavorless. The food is lackluster, and I wouldn't eat here again.

It's definitely funky, but the food is really good. I've seen this restaurant, every time I'm at this shopping area, but finally decided to have breakfast here. Their current breakfast special is $8.95 for a breakfast burrito and coffee, so that's what I ordered. Basically, the ingredients are all behind the counter and you tell him or her what you want in your burrito, so I had him put everything in it - eggs; bacon; potatoes; rice; black beans; corn; tomatoes; onions; sour cream; and salsa. As you can expect, it was one ginormous burrito, which he wrapped beautifully. I thought for sure I was going to have to eat it with a fork and knife, but it all stayed contained to the end. I'm still full. Seating: Indoor and outdoor tables, for those of you with dogs. Parking: plenty of free parking.

This is a fun hidden jewel. Concealed in the rear of the Golden Cove Shopping Center this restaurant offers a unique blend of Mexican influenced dishes. What is the truly great things about this restaurant is the fact that when you order items such as burritos they actually construct them to your preference right there in front of you. From this, you get exactly the ingredients you want in exactly the amount you want. This is truly a great way to operate a restaurant. This restaurant offers various À la cart items as well as a number of combo dishes. So, you will always find something that you want. In terms of their drinks, they have water, bottled water, various soda drinks, as well as coffee and beer. Though a lot of people come here to do takeout, they have a few booths and a couple of tables indoors. Plus, they have several tables outside. So, if you want to dine at this restaurant, there are plenty of places for you to sit. Overall, this is a very interesting restaurant. You just have to look for it a little bit because it is, as previously stated, hidden in the back of the shopping center. But, once you find it, you will not be sorry.

They have 3 vegan options! We had burritos with vegan al pastor & vegan chorizo with potatoes. Both were amazing! We'll definitely be back when we're in the area again. The owner and staff were super friendly, the place is clean, and the outside tables made for a great experience. And it's a family run business! Highly recommend!

Top notch quality Mexican food. Its the attention to customer service for me. They remember your face and order but I like to switch it up on then for lunch. Can't never go wrong with the classic Torta, nice and shredded carnitas with their spiciest salsas on a fresh loaf of bread. Sometimes I go lean with the chicken but can't never go wrong with the classic asada as well. Their agua fresca is fresh and light. I always get spicy salsa as well with my chip and occasionally a beer or two. Cheers!

Some of the best quesadillas I've ever had. Authentic Mexican food with really great pricing! Excellent service and friendly employees who made me feel right at home as well. Will be coming back here when I visit the peninsula again! I ordered Carnitas Quesadilla with Rice and Beans, was about $14 which isn't bad at all Comes with chips and salsa!

We've tried a few times, finally taking the time to review. We moved in a few months ago, and are so happy to have found what will be one of our regular haunts going forward. New favorite place! (Family run, too...Carla's the best! No wait...Frida's the best! Everything is fresh and delicious...chicken is white meat and still moist, carnitas are lean, salsas are fresh (and the dark red one has a nice tip-of-the-tongue bite). Pickled veggies are good with everything...could eat a pound of those carrots. I didn't ask, but even their tortillas seem special...corn was extra thin and when fresh-toasted made a perfect taco. Oh, and they have vegan options! Hibiscus and jackfruit, both made fresh-to-order (Wait, I was wrong...mom and dad in the back are the best)! Options for vegan cheese, too (and same price for anything you order, vegan or not, no up-charge). There are still some things we haven't tried, like the homemade soups, or the tapatío or chipotle cremas, or...breakfast! Just means we have a lot more to look forward to as we plan to come back for years to come. Update: tried the breakfast tacos. Soy chorizo was great, the bacon was actually too much bacon (crazy, I know, but couldn't taste anything else!), and (my favorite) steak (which we added tapatío crema...killer). 3 loaded tacos (eggs, potatoes, protein and toppings/salsas) and a cup of coffee for around $11 (including tax). I'll be skipping lunch, but it was gooooood.

Food was great real authentic Mexican tacos The meat was absolutely tender. Almost as good as My Mother's.

We LOVE this place! We have come here numerous times and it's always excellent. Everything we have tried: carnitas, hibiscus, and oyster mushrooms, as well as all of the salsas and rice and bean options are delicious. The owners are also awesome people! They always have a genuine interest in how the food is and are generous with their portions. They also wear masks and enforce their mask policy (they offer masks if you don't have one). The restaurant itself is very clean and beautifully decorated. All in all, you can tell that the owners take pride in their establishment and it shows!

The food is great here. The service is also really great because the workers are kind and they are very fast. I usually get the chicken and cheese quesadillas. They are great. Sometimes, i substitute the chicken with barbacoa or carne asada. They are both still pretty good. Parking is really easy because it is located in the Golden Cove which has a ginormous parking lot. Overall, a nice place to eat. Its also great to support small family businesses.

On a Saturday afternoon, we stopped by this hidden gem craving burritos. This place is incredible! I loved that it's a family owned business and when i mean family owned...I mean the parents and kids are there doing the work! My boyfriend was craving a California burrito and they made some fresh house potatoes to accommodate his off menu order. I ordered a vegan wet burrito. I couldn't decide between the vegan al pastor or the vegan tinga so they did a half and half burrito to cater to my indecisiveness. Overall great food, customer service, and atmosphere.

My husband and I were craving Mexican so we decided to try out this place! Didn't know it was Chipotle style! We got burrito bowls, horchata, and street corn! The only thing I wasn't fond of was the Barbados! It was all fatty and I had to throw away most of the pieces! Everything else was amazing!

I found this place on yelp and I'm sure glad I found it. A film producer needed food for the cast and crew, so she assigned me to find food places around the Palos Verdes area. She wanted something cheap and was more so looking something similar to a chipotle, so I found this place. I must say this place is way better than chipotle, it seems family owned. I believe this was a real taqueria restaurant because everything was fresh and they had delicious Horchata and Jamaica drinks. Not to mention, I believe the owner or whoever was the cashier was very friendly and asked us if we need anything while we were dining inside. Also, the film producer really enjoy the food and complimented me for finding this place. if you are looking for good quality burritos, tacos, authentic Mexican food in general, this is a place for you.
