20 Cinematic Spots in Italy Worthy of a Fellini Film

"There’s a harsh built landscape tucked behind a plain-looking Italian cemetery. Grim concrete, clean lines, and sharp shapes define the structures. The small cluster of buildings looks grim and foreboding from its perch atop the earth. The Brion Tomb, built by visionary Italian architect Carlo Scarpa, draws fans of Modernist architecture from around the world. Scarpa began working on the tomb in 1969 at the request of Onorina Tomasi Brion, the wealthy widow of the founder of an electronics company called Brionvega. Scarpa was buried at the site after his untimely death in the 1970s. He, along with the members of the Brion family, now lie beneath this chunk of land, guarded by the stark Modernist structures he created. The tomb is open for the public to explore. It’s actually an entire cluster of buildings, rather than just one small house of the dead. There’s a chapel surrounded by a moat, which you can enter via a series of stepping stones. Keep an eye out for the Chinese art adorning its entrance, which adds a touch of softness to the otherwise sharp design. There’s also a reflecting pool, where lush vegetation pokes through the water’s glassy surface. Near the quiet, tranquil garden, you’ll find the two actual tombs: one for Giuseppe and Onorina Brion, and one for their other family members. It’s here where you’ll also find a white marble marker bearing Scarpa’s name." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

The m Brion sanctuary is the burial ground of the Brion family. It was designed by Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa between 1968–1978 as an L-shaped 2,000 sqm extension to the adjacent municipal cemetery. It is regarded as a masterpiece of post-modernist architecture and a powerful commemorative monument.

the Tomba is made from massive amounts of concrete. Stop by if you like this kind of architecture. You may have to be an expert to enjoy its beauty. We came and felt reminded about Japanese concrete architecture.

Had a hell of a time getting here via public transit but it's doable. Serene space and a masterpiece of Scarpa's architecture. Beyond the iconic circular portals, there are many interconnected pavilions scattered around full of interesting materials and details to delight the architecture lover in anyone. Almost no one else there in the middle of the day. Free to enter and they have a QR code with online guide if you like, the tomb is otherwise not signposted.

This is a very interesting architectural site. In my opinion, Carlo Scarpa was a master of details, if not if the whole. Walking through the mausoleum is a phenomenological experience, and the structures and the views are beautifully contemplative.

The place (as I've been told) is the best work of Scarpa. When experiencing it I felt it's beauty and brilliance as well. There are so am y intricate details to all the elements. From underwater elements to things roof elements that you wouldn't even see untill you were up there or tall enough to see or to the well camouflaged access to service rooms for pumps and filters. The place is tranquil and i assume that was the purpose. I felt great being there. If you're an architect or a designer of any kind or appreciate good design this is a must visit place.

A magnificent masterpiece of architecture located in the countryside, where space, forms, tranquility and beauty are combined with the respect to the deceased. Influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright, with elements and details of Japanese gardens and the Wiener Seccession. A must-see for architecture enthusiasts and admirers of beauty, shape, and form.

A masterpiece of modernist architecture by Carlo Scarpa. A must see if you are nearby, maybe on your way to Villa Barbaro (Maser) or Villa Emo (Fanzolo), both by Andrea Palladio. Some maintenance would do good to this place, but the overall conservation state is good. Below a few pictures on a stormy spring day.
