Tomoya Residence Hotel Kyōto Nijō Takakura

It was nice to have such large rooms and so much space. Our room had a washing machine and drying rack so we could conveniently sort our laundry. The service at the front desk was excellent. Rooms were very clean.

It was our best hotel experience in Japan, modern, comfortable, big rooms, excellent personnel, very friendly and kind. There are bicycles for rental at the hotel, even they lend you umbrellas in case of rain in Kyoto. It is a 7 minute walk from the metro station which connects you to Kyoto central station. Also, there are buses nearby the hotel that take you to tourist places in Kyoto.

Modern and comfortable rooms, all amenities. Western style breakfast is served in room, excellent Japanese breakfast available at extra charge. Personnel is extremely friendly and attentative, even higher level than the already high standard of service in Japan. 6 Min.walk to underground station.

The pros:|1. Very spacious and well-appointed and clean apartment; the laundry is a big plus|2. Friendly and helpful staff|3. Located in a quiter residential area, but with nearby smaller restaurants (there's a great wagyu ramen restaurant within a 10min walk and a teppanyaki restaurant almost across the hotel)|4. Breakfast food is good, served with variety (even if they're always "Western")||The cons:|1. Around 15min walk from the nearest train/bus station, a bit far too from the busy commercial areas; we found ourselves taking the taxi here much more often than in Tokyo|2. In terms of room configuration, I wished the toilet was located beside the bedroom so it's easier to go in the middle of the night.

Overall, one of the best places we have stayed at. The room was well appointed, spacious, and clean. Everything worked exactly as expected. Location is great too - close to subway lines, shops, restaurants but still a quiet neighborhood. However, what stood out was the customer service - exceptional is an understatement. Front desk helped us with so many things - assisting with take out orders, last minute reservations at restaurants etc. And then when one of my family was not feeling well on New Year’s Eve, they called around to find what places are open and have Doctors that speak English. Overall, felt like we were well taken care of at this place. Would certainly stay here again, the next time we visit Kyoto.

I spent most of 2024 working on a 2 week trip to Japan. Planning is overwhelming with so many choices - but I am so glad I trusted my gut on Tomoya Residence Hotel. You can believe the reviews: the staff could not be more gracious and accommodating, the environment is welcoming and intimate, and the room and facilities were fantastic for our family. We were two adults and a 12-year old and loved staying in the 2BR apartment - the common room was terrific, the bathroom was amazing, and the second Japanese bedroom was a real treat for our daughter while we loved the comfortable king bed. The location is also a huge bonus - easy to walk to metro and bus in many directions, and the side streets around the hotel were wonderful to explore after longer days in more crowded areas. Cannot recommend Tomoya enough to travelers looking for a comfortable and peaceful place to rest and recover after exploring Kyoto and other cities nearby - or for a hotel team that will help you with anything you need while you are there. What a wonderful experience. The staff are excellent and this is by far the best hotel I have stayed at in the entirety of Japan. Truly amazing!! They were very attentive and welcoming. Will definitely come back here in the future! 5 stars in literally every aspect, especially the staff.
