Celebrating a Jubilant New Year at the Tonhalle. Tonhalle Düsseldorf welcomed the new year with a clear and refreshing concept. Conducted by Axel Kober, the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra performed exclusively works from 1926 — the year the Tonhalle originally opened as a planetarium. The historical reference gave the concert both focus and depth. The program felt cohesive yet varied, capturing the spirit of the 1920s without slipping into nostalgia. Kober led the orchestra with precision and drive, while the musicians delivered a transparent, energetic performance. Rather than relying on familiar New Year’s clichés, the evening emphasized character and musical substance. The audience responded with enthusiastic applause. A well-conceived New Year’s concert that reimagined tradition and celebrated the Tonhalle’s anniversary in a modern, convincing way.

The place is so beautiful and the music is amazing. It's a feast for ears as well as for eyes! Highly recommended to visit one of the concerts at least once.

Very well maintained. Staff was polite and showed our way to our seats. Lights and sound in the auditorium was good. Seats were comfortable as well.

⭐Unique lighting arrangement adds a magic touch to the music pieces. ⭐Here’s a concrete example. At the Jan 27, 2025 Hayato Sumino concert, three of his own compositions are inspired by starry skies at different locations. It’s more than befitting that he played them under a dom of artificial starry lights. There are no words for that kind of transcendence. The unique interplay of the venue, the lighting and the music is out of this world. ⭐The architectural elements create layers and depth and endless joy of exploration. I went round and round in the circular structure and was blissfully lost. A great spatial analogy to music-induced euphoria. On the practical side, a few points: ⭐️Coat check is well designed. No coins needed. Staffed coat check counters and storage cabins wrap around the whole atrium. You can check your coat and bags at a point closest to the stairs or elevators that take you up to the seats. ⭐️The room temperature is a pleasant 20 Celsius or 68 Fahrenheit by my rough estimate. Wearing a sleeveless dress would’ve been on the chill side. I felt perfectly comfortable in my thin cotton cardigan over a sleeveless dress. No sweating, no shivering.

As an artist the Tonhalle is amazing, theres plenty of room to unpack and prepare and a good sound isolation. As a guest, its a pleasant experience. The staff is amazing even though the drinks and the food is overprices.

I didn't visit a concert just found it strolling around Dusseldorf. Quite a nice architecture building next to the Rhein river

As a former planetarium turned into a concert hall. Very well done, sounds are amazing, the architecture is incredible. Worth a visit for sure! The copper dome is something that stands out in the city and the external view of the building alone is worth the visit. It is also situated next to several art museums that are worth visiting so if you visit Duesseldorf, its only a few min walk from the old city and a lot to do and see, so worth the walk!

Yelp
What a night it was. This is a delayed review, but I'm an avid fan of symphonies and I went out here for the St. Martin in the fields concert and it was an incredible night. What more can I say? Incredible venue, incredible orchestra, incredible sound. Wow. Need to make it out here more often!

Yelp
On a beautiful sunny day, nothing seems better than sitting outside the Tonhalle Düsseldorf! I came here after walking around Düsseldorf and experiencing all great food and shopping this city has to offer. However, towards the end of the day, it was time to stop and "smell the roses".. or in this case, just enjoy the rhine. Outside the Tonhalle, there is (of course) a Uerige pop up tent, and tons of chairs/bean bags all around.. although I am told that bean bags are actually called, "fat boys!" How cute! Ah yes, back to the review. Grab a cold Alt-Bier and relax at your seat of choice.. take a deep breath, take a sip of your cold beverage of choice, and look at your surroundings... "Ahhh... Sehr Schön"

Yelp
The sound quality is very nice. Atmosphere is not all snooty a fear I had when I first went in. I love the offerings they have for the minis.
