Tonic Hotel, Lovedale, NSW, Australia - Explore & Book

"Tonic is inspired by the great Aussie shed. But don't get the wrong idea, these sheds have style - bucketfuls of it - and a setting to match. From its 8 contemporary-chic rooms, big picture windows and verandas look out onto the dams, endless valleys and rich wildlife of the northern Hunter valley. From the moment you arrive, your soul feels restored.Tonic's original founders, Tom and Nic, gave up life in Sydney to create their ideal hotel, with their own (lack of) rules; and the current owners Ian and Janelle have stayed true to this approach. So: no formulaic hotel breakfasts - instead, your maxi-bar is bursting with all the ingredients for your perfect start to the day. No strict check-in times - instead, you choose your entrance code and let yourself in and out when you want. Expect an eclectic mix of modern and vintage furnishings, gloriously comfortable beds, underfloor-heated bathrooms, a slinky swimming pool, a funky lounge, kangaroos and black swans on your doorstep. It's all wonderfully refreshing after the trad-fad of other Hunter hotels. Highs We loved the contemporary, innovative and proudly Australian designUtter peace and tranquility - you need never speak to another soul in your entire time hereThere's a lovely Italian restaurant nearby, and some great wineries tooGuests rave about waking up to chirping birdlife, or watching lightning storms from their balconies Charming hosts, who are happy to advise and arrange, but also to leave you alone if that's your wish Lows Not in the heart of the Hunter, but it's much more peaceful than Pokolbin, which is only 15 minutes awayDon't expect staff or catered meals; this is more for self-sufficient types (though Ian can offer advice)The rooms aren't large but they are perfectly formedNo children under 15 - this hotel is designed for couplesA power line goes through the valley but you soon don't notice it" - Nadine Mellor

Tonic Hotel is in the heart of Lovedale and great for exploring the Hunter Valley. Lots of restaurants, wine, chocolate and cheese tasting very close. The accommodation was amazing, with clean rooms and luxurious amenities Our group of 15 booked all rooms available which allowed everyone to have their own space. We came together in the communal area for a great fire, casual meals and sunsets while sampling what had been foraged during the day. Ian was amazing. Always there if needed and lots of local recommendations.

Absolutely stunning, big room with lots of luxury and an incredible view. I woke up to a flurry of hot air balloons in the sky at the crack of dawn. The room included plunger coffee and a bathtub with candles and bubble bath provided. We only wish we could have stayed longer, thank you so much

Quiet and scenic location, dam and farm animals, secluded road for a great 6km run past vineyards. Clean simplistic room with sunset views. 15mins from smelly cheese factory and shops, and of course surrounded by hundreds of great vineyards to select a wide range of vines and experiences

Wow, Tonic is just beautiful. From the little touches such as the make up towel, candles, bubble bath to the pillows and the bed everything was perfect. Quiet, beautiful views, relaxing there is not much more you could ask for. Definitely will be coming back to stay!

I tried contacting to cancel my booking 19 weeks in advance when the circumstances for my travel had changed but hotel staff were confused and unhelpful, and have been consistently avoiding further follow up calls and emails from myself and booking.com Very poor customer service so far I would hope that they can prioritise the customer experience in future as this has been very disappointing

My husband and I have started staying here every time we come down to Hunter Valley and we just love it. The view is stunning. The sound is so peaceful. The room is vibey, new and clean. Coffee, Tea, cleaning products, kitchen appliances in the room. Big fridge which is amazing because we also go grocery shopping before. The balcony is spacey. They have kitchen access and a pool. You can see families of kangaroos. ITS ALSO DOG FRIENDLY. We take our 2 small dogs and they just have the best time ever.

This place lives up to its name of being a tonic for the soul. We were very fortunate to have stayed in the 2 bedroom unit and could not have had a more comfortable, quiet and relaxing stay. Every possible thing had been thought of to make our stay as relaxing as possible. The views from the verandah were stunning, we loved being able to have our dog stay with us and all of the places we wanted to visit were 10-15 minutes drive again. Everything was spotlessly clean. The owners were super friendly and accomodating. We would not hesitate to stay here again, when we visit the beautiful Hunter Valley again.

What a wonderful place to spend the long weekend, our dog loved it and we did too. The room is cozy, comfortable and clean. The owner is a great host and the common space has everything you need. Definitely a place to return to 😀
