On the Grid : Toni's

"Look forward to authentic, well priced Mozambican Portuguese fare, from peri-peri chicken, prawns and grilled sardines to Mozambican curries and seafood rice. The atmosphere is homely, laid-back and unpretentious – so it’s no wonder that many locals consider it a second home." - Yellow Door Collective

I am absolutely appalled by the experience I just had. While our waiter was lovely, the management at this establishment was a great disappointment. We were barely seated before the manager marched over and forced us to move tables, claiming ours was set for the 'lunch sitting'—a terrible start, but it got worse. I ordered the Trinchado with a side of salad. The waiter confirmed this was fine. However, the manager returned and told me I couldn’t have that option 'because there was sauce.' Basic logic suggests you simply serve the Trinchado on a separate plate from the salad! To top it all off, when the food finally arrived, the 'salad' was nothing more than a pathetic garnish. I was very disappointed in the treatment I received.

Visited in April 2025. The squid starter was great, very tasty but the curry wasn’t so good, flavour being very bland. Reasonable prices and good atmosphere.

I'd seen some negative and positive reviews, but we gave Toni's a try. Shared a full chicken 🐔 at a special price. Great taste from the chicken and / or extra hot 🔥 Peri-Peri sauce. Lovely indoor and outdoor seating. Owner Toni interacted with us and other customers, seems like a friendly chap. Need another visit to test the Prego rolls 🍷

From start to finish, everything was cooked to perfection. I can’t tell you how much I loved this meal. We had the sardines, calamari tentacles, rump prego, Greek salad and peri peri chicken. Loved sitting on the balcony, with a nice breeze and fresh crisp cold beer. Thank you Denie for your hospitality and the laugh!

We went there on Sunday and it was quiet but the atmosphere was still very pleasant. Out waiter was a wonderful gentleman, very knowledgeable about the menu and upon his recommendation we had an amazing mozambiqean curry. He was a gem. And the food was very tasty, we inhaled the curry.

5/5 in casual dining category. Fantastic place for chilled meal. Seafood rice was fantastic and reminded us of the best cataplanas we had in Portugal. We took prawns from special - totally recommended - not only the prawns were good by themselves, but the accompanying sauce was a dream.

Toni’s has been open for many years, it’s well known. The food is good but not fantastic; I’d recommend the roasted chicken and the calamari. The prawns were a bit dry, giblets not exciting at all. The prices are very reasonable and service by a charming lady was wonderful. The peri peri sauce was very good.

Toni's is one of our favourite restaurants in the Mother City... especially for the Portuguese food!! We've been going to Toni's for many many many years. And just can't get enough. I love my Calamari Tubes as a starter and then either Beef Trinchado or Espetada.... 10/10
