Great hotel with friendly staff. Amazing food. Honeymoon suite ( Georgian suite) room 6 would certainly recommend comfortable bed large and spacious. Double shower. Very clean. We got married here last year. So no better place than to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary.

Ran an event at the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble. Lovely staff. Super Clean hotel and very comfortable. Would I return ... absolutely. I had read a few of the reviews and have to say that the beds and pillows were fabulous. This hotel is steeped in history. The architecture is stunning. We ate in the restaurant and the food was amazing. Looking forward to returning next year xxxx

If you arrive from the station it is quite far to walk. If you are going to the port it so handy. The room is ok. The bathroom should have a good mold removal, it is quite disgusting to see all the black mold there.

I have stayed here before and could not fault the facilities and staff…..superb!!! I booked again for this weekend but my daughter has gone into hospital unexpectedly so had to cancel last minute. I booked via Booking.com and was told that my payment would be retained as non-refundable. I phoned the hotel and explained and I then received an email from Booking.Com to say that my payment has been refunded in full. This is a Hotel with heart and compassion and I will definitely be staying here again on my next trip to Scotland…Brilliant, thank you to the Tontine Hotel, Greenock, see you soon.

Some positives, some negatives...sadly wouldn't stay again because of the latter. My Premier Double room was spacious, with a very comfy armchair. The bed itself was good but the pillows were absolutely awful (the worst I've experienced in decades of hotel stays), really flat with no bounce whatsoever. Even with 6 of them to arrange in different ways I just couldn't make myself a comfy place to rest my head, and now have a very stiff neck. My sleep was also impacted by the lack of curtains on the 2 big windows. The blinds are ill-fitting and let light in at the sides. I resorted to hanging clothes up on hooks on window frames to block some of the sunlight! The blinds are attractive but the room needs curtains too! Staff service also failed to impress... In the morning I made a coffee but then decided to leave drinking it until after breakfast (I like it cold as well as hot, especially in this weather!). I also made a herbal tea with my own teabag, and deliberately left that to steep till later on, with purpose of it aiding my digestion). On my return from breakfast a short while later I discovered that my room had been serviced (no issue there, I had forgotten to put a Don't Disturb on door). I was then rather gobsmacked to see that the housekeeping staff had thrown my drinks away (I had left full mugs) and washed the mugs! Perhaps I could have excused that if it had been later and they had thought I'd headed out for the day, but this occurred during breakfast time! In my opinion though they shouldn't touch things like that left by guests. Many people like to drink tea and coffee cold, I don't understand why they thought it was a good idea to chuck out my drinks! Also, I could well have put meds or supplements in these drinks....the staff should surely know to leave these things be! I realised that a member of housekeeping staff was outside my room at the time so nipped out to ask politely for a couple of extra sachets of coffee. I felt too awkward to mention the beverage disposal but am sure she was aware... She did indeed then give me 2 more sachets, but without any smile or pleasantries. Her dourness left me feeling a little unwelcome, and this feeling was then magnified on returning to my room and switching on the television... only to discover that she or another member of the housekeeping staff had switched it off at the wall socket whilst I was at breakfast. Not because there was only a single socket and they might have had to use that for a hoover etc... No, there were plenty sockets, but they had very deliberately reached under the table housing the TV and switched it off at the mains. Why, when they knew i was very probably about to return to the room, would that seem a good idea? That action kind of summed up my time at the Tontine... whilst I had hoped for a heartwarming stay in a privately owned hotel what I actually experienced was a very impersonal and not entirely pleasant couple of nights. I'd love to return to Greenock but would definitely stay elsewhere. I should mention that breakfast was fine, with a huge Scottish cooked option, enough to satisfy the biggest appetite! I would still, sadly, opt for alternative accommodation on my next visit.

I’ve recently stayed at the ‘ Tontine hotel’ for business purposes, for a little over three months in all. |Laura and her team made it a very pleasurable experience, accommodating all of our special requests to ensure that we were made to feel welcome and at home from home, with the support of her friendly and polite staff. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped as well as being spotlessly clean. The restaurant/ bar had a wide and varied choice of cuisine accompanied by a range of good beers and fine wines. We also spent many evenings in the ‘1808’ bar watching our favourite sports, taking part in the weekly quiz or just having some chill time, with light music and lovely food. All in al a memorable stay. Thankyou all.

Great place. I was there on business for the day so cannot comment on the bedrooms. The downstairs and public areas are clean and comfortable. Fantastic outdoor space, shame there was no sun but nevertheless a generous seating area. Great cocktail bar as well. The main large room was great for our business that day and a big shout out to the staff who were perfectly polite, extremely helpful. Lunch was a bit slow but tasted grand. Thanx Tontine.

Google
Clean, comfortable and friendly. A family owned hotel where the staff care for the customers. On site parking. That's all I need to say but this review requires 200 characters until it's accepted. So this is just padding it out. Great hotel, no complaints.

Yelp
The good: Nice quaint location in a historical building. I loved the ambience and there is a story board on the way down to the downstairs bar. Staff is very friendly. The room was very spacious. it looks like its the place to have wedding receptions in town because I experienced one... so much so that I was invited in. The bad: Its time for a refresh... there are signs of 'tiredness' all over the hotel. Bathroom had a cracked and uplifted tile by the door, the light over the mirror didn't work & was exposed. Threadbare carpet in places. The mattress was horrible and needs to be replaced... I didn't sleep well until I yanked the mattress to the floor. There is no air con, so I had to open the windows which worked fine, however, the challenge is that room 7 is directly above the entrance and the street, so you have traffic noise all night long AND its right above the smokers, so you get that wonderful aroma wafting in AND of course those folks often have their conversations at all hours of the night... you might even hear some very passionate and loud arguments at 1:30.

Yelp
As Andrew M. Had mentioned. I can see this placing being somewhat of an icon back in the day, but no more. Renovations are required, but considering the no so favorable trip across the pond, I found the bed comfortable and staff friendly. The staircase provides a glimpse of what was, but now the walls are cracked, the ceilings are stained and the floors slope like some of the difficult golf course greens I have putted on over the years. Still it is comfortable and moderately priced. No major bells and whistles here. I'll update my thoughts in a couple of days.

Yelp
A beautiful hotel in the west end of Greenock and one where I used to eat on special occasions with my family years ago. It was always one of the best places to stay in the area. (I've never stayed there myself, but some family members have.) In recent years I've only had a bar meal, not eaten in the restaurant (there was only one vegetarian choice on the menu in there and it's a very expensive place to eat). The bar meal was very ordinary, in contrast, and reasonably priced. There should be more veggie choices though. The people were friendly and it was good to visit this lovely old hotel again.
