"The donair was declared the official food of Halifax in 2015. You’ll find this pita, filled with spicy rotisserie beef, chopped tomatoes, onions, and shredded lettuce, in pizza shops and specialty restaurants all over the city. It’s a variation on the traditional döner kebabs served in Turkey and Greece, with one very crucial difference. 'What singles us out in the Maritimes is our sauce,' says Leo Salloum, who, alongside his father, Abraham, owns Halifax’s venerable Tony’s Pizza. The little, no-frills restaurant has been serving donair (and pizza) for more than 40 years. 'All donair sauce is made with a base of Carnation-brand evaporated condensed milk,' Salloum says. 'We like our sauce sweet and add garlic, vinegar, more sugar, and a secret ingredient.'" - Jenny Adams

I didn't expect such a huge portions! First time there were no pictures, hunger won! We ordered Donairs and bacon poutine. There couldn't possibly be more meat in those giants! Second time - panzerottis and world famous pizza. Really good flavours, portions huge again! Need this in Calgary! 😄

I was looking for a good donair place in Halifax and google led me to Tony's. They said it was the best in the city. Now I can't say whether it is or it isn't, as it's the only one I had here, but I can say it was tasty. The staff was friendly and a little slow to take my order but I was slow to order. I had a regular donair and some donair spring rolls. They were both good and also a lot of food. I would say Tony's is worth a stop while in halifax. The bathroom was also clean and there was few seats inside the restaurant.

I'm not an expert when it comes to Donair, but I heard that Halifax is popular for its Donairs. I made some research on Reddit and Tony's is supposed to be one of the best in town. I ordered the Famous Tony's donair Large size (with no extra). Its huge, packed with meat. No need to order extra. Make sure to ask for a fork, you will need one. Sweet and salty sauce, slightly spicy. Very hard to bite due to the shear size, hence a fork is needed. A very good first experience in Halifax. Great price for the amount.

Hands down best donair I’ve had in my life. The meat is thinly shaved which really makes a difference. Spice so good. Was only visiting Halifax for 3 days and I went twice :). Sad I’ll have to wait until I visit Halifax to have another.

Donair wasn't my favourite, but great garlic fingers! Not soggy and the crust had a lovely crisp to it! Would go back!

I had the pleasure of indulging in Tony's renowned donairs on two consecutive evenings. The portions were exceptionally generous, and the meats were expertly seasoned. The donairs were conveniently wrapped in plastic, making them easy to handle and enjoy. Must visit for a east coast donair!

Unsure how it got to be so highly rated. The food item in their name was not great by any means. Flavour wise I rate it less than Grecko Pizza's. I thought I'd be set because I ordered a poutine in case the donair wasn't great...nope. I got served french fry, cheese and gravy soup. To top it all off the gravy wasn't that good for the poutine. I went to get a can of pepsi, was told the price($3.26/can) and decided I didn't need a drink and would choke down the food. The day before I tried K.O.D...so much better. Total spent on a chicken shawarma bowl, medium donair, regular poutine: $44 and some change...don't waste your money folks. Learn from my mistake.

Extremely disappointed! Ordered a large donair with the works! Very little donair sauce, onions and tomatoes. Looked like there was only a teaspoon equivalent of Donair sauce on a large donair. Needless to say it was dry. I’ve had much much better donairs from other Pizza/ Donair shops throughout the HRM. For $14 not including tax and tip it was a huge let down!
