Top Banana Bar

I stayed at Mad Monkey and was told it was fine to go to this bar without a t-shirt, but when I got there, the staff told me it wasn’t allowed. To make things worse, I saw others in the bar without t-shirts, so clearly, the rules aren’t applied consistently. It was frustrating and made me feel singled out. I expected better communication and fairness from a place that promotes a relaxed and inclusive vibe. If you have rules, stick to them for everyone or make them clear to avoid this kind of experience.

Loved this Guesthouse, they arranged a tuk tuk to pick me up from the airport. The driver carried my case up the stairs, the reception is at the bar and the staff were friendly, efficient. My room with private bathroom was a good size and was clean and comfortable. Had a delicious meal and I was luckily there on Mojito Monday so imbibed in a cocktail or 2!!Ihad prebooked my bus a few weeks before, the staff happily rang the bus company to confirm my pickup. All in all I would highly recommend the Top Banana it is a friendly welcoming place for a solo female traveller.

Awesome location, highly convenient, many bars and cafes in the area. Smack in a vibrant neighbourhood/ part of Phnom Penh. The only drawback is there are steep steps to climb to get to the reception & room — there are no lifts, and you have to carry the luggage up yourself. Private rooms are also very basic in amenities, but they are clean. Overall, value for money for the cost per night and location.

Pros: 10/10 location, smack in a touristy district with many notable bars/ cafes down the road. The room is clean and basic and the price is very affordable for a location like this. The adjacent rooftop bar is very popular amongst a young tourist crowd. Cons: You have to climb up 2 steep flights of stairs with your luggage to get to the reception & the rooms (on the 3rd floor). There are no lifts. Also, it remains very noisy in the wee hours of the night due to the central location. If you’re a light sleeper, sleep might be compromised.

The single rooms are actually quiet nicely furnished with good water pressure and a functioning water heater which made life so much nicer after a few weeks in the boonies. There was a small futon on the floor with a low table for chilling out and a balcony walkway to look down on the street. I've stayed in the dorms here as well and they were nice and clean as well. ||||Double edged sword. You're underneath a bar and across the street from 4 more. If you're a light sleeper, buy ear plugs or just get drunk like I did. The music and the party upstairs goes late and the party across the street never really quieted down while I was there. Staff were helpful and you get a free beer when you check in. I love the location and everything went well on this trip. Thanks Tina.

Had a great time with friends at this place. A great bar and Tina is a fantastic bartender. She's so nice! You can also meet a lot of other travelers. They also have a kitchen for food. We had such a great time! loved this bar!

This used to be a great place to hang out with travelers and tourists. But like so many other places in PP, it now completely changed for the worse and looks like a meeting point for gangsters and drug related crowd. Doesn’t feel safe and no more fun here.

My favorite place to stay while in Phnom Pehn. I've stayed in both the super clean girls dorm and a two bed private. They allow my little dog here and the location is right across from a pagoda and a block away from a large grassy area for dog walks. Super friendly owners and bar staff. Bar turns into club night a couple nights a week but music did not disturb me in the dorms. The English breakfast here is huuuge and yummy.
