The best coffee we've had in US so far. This place is clean and calm. There was a super kind guy behind the counter. Coffee was delicious with great latte art. We couldn't resist trying their waffles. Must say that they were finger-licking good. So if you love top-notch coffee and waffles this is place for you!

First time here, loved the friendly service and their Valentine waffle! I got it without whipped cream; it was so yummy. Just the right kind of sweet with my coffee. I also liked the design of the place. It is modern and has indoor/outdoor seating.

I FINALLY got a chance to visit the Top Hat Coffee Lounge University City location. I've been buying their beans for a few years now and looked forward to this visit for months! WOW! Everything was absolutely delicious! We started with a chocolate croissant and had the angry waffle and beginegg cheese! My date had an iced latte and I enjoyed a cinnamon raisin cookie smoothie. She LOVED the latte and this smoothie tasted EXACTLY like a cookie! We cannot say enough of the great service, drinks and food. They truly have something AWESOME here!

as long as quality coffee exists, cold wet gray days don’t make for the severe downer that they could be. stopped here before walking to Center City. ordered a large Americano—carefully crafted by the barista who took my order. the coffee was smooth and deep in flavor…served super hot which is a necessity on those chilly sun-less days. the service was pleasant. tbh, if i didn’t have a lunch destination, i would’ve ordered one of the signature liege waffle which look good. the cafe / coffee shop has plenty of seating with a warm yet modern feel whether you’re working, studying, or just need a moment of respite from the din of life. look forward to stop here during warmer days!

Come for the coffee, stay for the waffles! Latte was smooth and beautifully poured. The Philly Philly liege waffle with cinnamon cream cheese and was stellar. Never would have thought of this combo! Slightly crispy, slightly sweet but not overly so. Will 100% be returning to try a different waffle combo and looking forward to try a mocha!

Wonderful coffee shop in phliadelphia. Exquisite warmed up coffee cake muffin with tasty cortado. Reviewed this before, but it seems to have been deleted. So reuploaded with an update of pictures.

Have to tip my hat to this place. It just opened, but is already making a splash. They have a wide range of coffees, smoothies, and baked goods. They specialize in waffles (so good- got the berry bomb). Their signature blend- the velvet coffee- is really good. It's a college students dream! Came here to work and the WiFi was fast they have a good range of seats for working or just chilling (they have a good number of outlets as well). Will definitely be making this place a regular spot to lounge around.

This place has some of the most delicious waffles I’ve ever had, I can’t wait to come back and try all the other waffle creations on the menu. The coffee is pretty good too. They have a decent amount of seating, so it’s a great place to get some work done as well, although it can get busy at times.

Super friendly service. Had a delicious oatmeal raisin cookie smoothie and a bacon, egg, and cheese waffle. Worked from a table and an outlet in the corner and had a productive time. The metal/video game music was a plus. Wished their doors were handicap accessible but you can't win them all.

The servers were quite nice and this is one of the nicer cafes near Upenn (university city). There is a lot of lighting and comfortable seating so it might be nice for solo work, BUT it is quite loud so please don't be like me and take meetings from here. I ordered a matcha latte (nothing to write home about- but at the very least it had some flavour) and plain croissant. The food was mid tbh.

Wanted a place to get a nice coffee in University city and we stumbled upon this place! There are chairs and tables inside and was pretty packed too for a weekday in the middle of the day but we were able to get a seat at a shared table. I ordered the cappuccino and overall this was not great. It did not have a strong coffee flavor and tasted more like milk than coffee. Foam was not that smooth. Standard prices for a cafe. Overall, coffee looked better than it tasted

Top Hat Coffee Lounge serves BOMB espresso macchiatos, cream cheese danishes, and matcha tea lattes. But what they serve best is the chill, positive, good vibes only attitude. Vince and the gang serve genuine smiles straight up. I can't wait to go back and see my new friends. Also, I accidentally left my vape in the bathroom and they found it and gave it back to me. Just good peeps there. Please never go to Starbucks again, only go here.

We are so happy we stumbled upon Top Hat during our morning walk. We grabbed a seat right outside to enjoy the weather and went for iced and hot coffee. However, once we saw that they were also known for waffles, we knew that we had to try those. Boy am I glad we did! Service was quick and I liked how they also had ample seating inside. We got the berry waffle and their popular poached, egg and chorizo waffle. Double YUM! Run- don't walk! You need to try this place!

This is close to 30th street station and a great little coffee shop with plenty of options. Although their menu is not huge, they have a lots of waffles, smoothies, and coffee to offer. The waffles are on the smaller size but have great additions to them. The poached eggs on top are perfect. The creama on the avocado waffle was delicious! Most of the fare offer a sweet and savory bite! The staff was nice and were quick in ordering and delivering of food. I loved that real silverware was provided!

Came here on a Sunday to get some work done and was very impressed with this cute coffee shop! Ended up getting a piña colada smoothie which ended up being one of the best decisions I made. I will say tables space was a little limited, although there was a long table that could be easily shared by many, but I was able to find a table early in the morning and most guests who came were able to do so as well. I think this shop has everything you need for a quick catch up session with friends or if you needed to get some work done in university city!

Great little spot right next to the university! We had two drinks from the drink specials, the velvet shakerato and sweater weather. Both were great! We saw that the angry waffle was highly recommended, so we got that. As a GF person, I was disappointed that there were not gluten-free options, but my wife enjoyed the waffle, so that's good. There's not a ton of seating, though there is a long shared table that is helpful. We would definitely go back and try more things.

Honestly I'll start off by saying I really liked the coffee and the liege waffle I ordered. There aren't many places to get waffles like this so I really appreciated it. It was really crowded inside and there's basically nowhere to sit if you come at a busy time. All that being said, my partner and I had a horrible strange experience with the service here. When our drink came out my partner grabbed a straw for me and then the barista who made our drink mumbled fuck them turtles right? And we were like ??? What did you just say? and he was like fuck them turtles right? And we were just so confused because the cafe had the straws out for customers to take!! Like I understand the sentiment but what a crazy thing to say to a customer. That interaction honestly really ruined my whole experience here.

This place has become one of my favorite coffee places in the area. I first learned of it by attending their sister store via the TooGoodToGo app. The coffee is quality, it is local, and they offer a variety of quality options with some authentic specials that don't just feel like they are "there" to me. What they do, they do it well. Fair pricing for the quality. For Sunday mornings, they need a minimum of two staff but could probably do with 3. But the space is kind of small for 3. Probably expensive to expand but I feel this business model is likely to grow eventually. This place is "happenin" with a small but nice cozy space. Don't forget that the sign says "Life-Changing" waffles. If you don't order a waffle dish from this location, you're missing out!! 7/25/23 update P.S. Where are the Monopoly boards?

I've been to Top Hat several times and they never disappoint! Their berry bomb and monte cristo waffles are great and they have nice rotating seasonal specials as well like their great pumpkin waffle. Prices are a bit high given the small-ish portions but the ambiance of the indoor cafe makes up for it.

I work right down the street from Top Hat and when I'm craving a crafted beverage: its SUCH a good choice. It recently had a Vanilla Nitro Cold Brew on special that was just the perfect blend of sweetness, smooth Nitro, and crispness. I would drink iced coffee any day of the week, and I would drink this one in particular every day. I've had the ballsy goat waffle on other trips and its the perfect blend of sweet and savory: balsamic reduction, goat cheese, strawberries: it sounds unusual but its honestly just the right balance. I really want to try more of their items. I will note: they are not cheap. But I think the quality and attention to detail is worth it.

Nice pick me up treat. Close to the train station too which is a plus but I appreciate it being tucked away on a side street. I ordered a hot latte with almond milk and the house made vanilla syrup and was pleasantly surprised how the sweetness added a nice touch! Not overly sweet and can taste the vanilla which I appreciate. Service was friendly and fast. Will be back for a pick me up caffeine drink and also a nice, relaxing spot to go to if I need to wait for my train.

Parking is impossible to find. The espresso is fantastic. I had to double park and send my friend in to get me a Cortado. So worth it.

I can't believe I paid $11 for a little waffle, and I can't believe I am willing to do it again. The angry waffle was delicious. I asked for my sauce on the side cause I wasn't sure if I would like it. I thought the dish by itself was rich in flavor, the sauce was just a bonus! My friend got the monte cristo, which looked super yummy. I might try that next time, or I might just get the angry waffle again. Staff were friendly. I definitely wouldn't take a video call here because of the foot traffic, but it's a nice place to catch up with friends.

Angry waffle was yummy! I like the take on the chorizo sausage. The sauce was great, a light drizzle with some notes of chipotle. Very nice staff, they didn't have mangoes but offered to still make the sunrise smoothie with pineapple instead. It was delightful! The ginger and weren't overwhelming. Cute little cafe close to the university and hospital. I would recommend checking it out!

I like studying/working here. Not a ton of seating but it's not usually jam packed either. The coffee is always good, the workers are super friendly, and the waffles are excellent. Have not tried the smoothies yet.

I eat, sleep, and breathe here. I don't know how I haven't written this review sooner. As a penn student nearby I'm here every weekend and this place checks a lot of boxes for me : outlets, lots of seating, wifi, bathroom, water refill, some natural sunlight, food & drinks, etc. The only food they offer are baked goods and waffles so enough to hold you over while studying. The smoothies are good but not great. It ends up separating sometimes and its not super smooth but I still enjoy them.

Annie the hostess was amazing - she juggled our order amazingly. The green goddess . Chill vibes by the water ! Great to study and chill- The mocha waffle was an amazing blend of tiramisu like batter and the savory waffle was perfectly sweet while balancing the savory !

The only coffee place I'll make the 1 mile trek for... seriously though, great ambience, food, and drinks! I love studying here- it can definitely get busy but that's why I have noise canceling headphones. I love the morning sunrise smoothie and the espresso is very smooth. Plus waffles?!? Are you kidding?? My only complaint is that the waffles are too small. Every time I go the staff is also warm and welcoming. A+

Stumbled upon this coffee shop and ordered the Barry bomb waffle. Delicious and not too sweet. Great place to do work for a couple hours. Played great music too.

A cool little coffee shop by Union Station with some very nice coffee shop options and hip ambience but I have to say the crew wasn't happening. I understand having a bad day but if you don't want to be there find something you'd rather do. Nobody wants to be somewhere where everyone is frowning.

Beautiful cafe with ample seating and great views of Walnut Street and campus. Outdoor seating available as well. Ordered a cappuccino, which was delicious - a complex flavor profile, rich taste. Ordered the angry waffle too, but vegetarian. The waffle is naturally sweet, so if you're not a big fan of sweet meets savory, the sweet waffle might throw you off with savory toppings. Normally served with chorizo, whose richness might offset the sweet a bit better. I personally would probably opt for a sweet waffle next time, which all look delicious. Nevertheless, waffle itself was fresh and delicious, crunchy on the outside and fluffy interior. The staff were lovely. Definitely planning to go back, if only for the coffee.

I had the pleasure of experiencing Top Hat Espresso at an event I attended recently. Their set up was amazing; it was down to every detail that made you forget you weren't at your local coffee shop getting your caffeine fix! They even had a printed menu to let you know what kind of drinks you could order and all the different flavored syrups they had on hand (including sugar free options). They were definitely a hit; the line literally never went down! Our barista was making 2 orders at a time and making it look effortless. I ended up ordering a cafe mocha and it was great. It was also made at a drinkable temperature and not burn your tongue hot like some places tend to do. Highly recommend them for any events you might be planning!

Word to the wise, refrain from posting reviews at this place while you are still in the store because you may overhear staff say "then why are they still here" when they read honest feedback.

We're happily surprised when we passed by this new coffee shop on Walnut St. We walked right in, set down, and enjoyed espresso drinks. Amazing! We also tasted their special waffle and it's absolutely delicious. The people behind the counter couldn't be more pleasant. I think this will become my go to coffee shop.

Poor customer service. The attitude from the staff is really off putting. The food was good when they opened, but now I feel as if it's not worth the price. I will not be returning.

The company I work for in Somerset ALWAYS brings Top Hat in to make our blitzing days here on the sales floor more bearable. Everything I've tried of theirs has been delicious, and they always have a new special every time they come in! I've tried their caramel latte, frosted mint mocha, and their cinnamon bun latte (all made with almond milk) and I've loved them all. They even create beautiful latte art! I look forward to trying more of their concoctions!

I had a small outdoor wedding in October 2020. I couldn't have imagined a better night without Top Hat Espresso! They ensured health and safety was the first thing on their minds, they were and extremely responsive vendor to work with, and they created a cozy, coffee filled environment for all of my guests. If you've thought about including coffee in your wedding, you MUST work with this company!

Top Hat Espresso catered at our wedding this past weekend and it was beyond a great experience. Tim was very helpful and easy to work with. He responded quickly to all of our questions and was flexible any time we needed to make changes. Our guests could not stop talking and complimenting the espresso cart and his team. Literally the most amazing people and coffee I've had ever! It was a surprise for my coffee theme bridal shower and the amount of excitement surrounding the bar was incredible! Tim and Anna were super nice and very patient with everyone. I'm a coffee fanatic and I can seriously tell you the taste of this coffee was incredible! This review is long overdue! I wrote this review after my wedding in September 2013, and finally just set up a yelp account. I always say, better late than never! My husband and I decided from the beginning that we were going to go sans alcohol for our wedding reception, and this was largely due to our personal beliefs. Already forecasting the many complaints we will be receiving from our alcoholic loving friends and family, I made it my personal mission to find something special that I could incorporate into our wedding reception. I knew that my husband and the majority of the people I knew loved coffee, so I began searching for coffee caterers. Through this search I came across Top Hat Expresso. I booked them for our wedding, and it was the best decision I ever made! Not only did Tim and Anna use top quality ingredients and freshly roasted coffee, but everything tasted delicious! I had multiple people say and agree that "the coffee bar was one of the best parts of the reception!" Many people also said "It was the best tasting coffee they ever had!" Top Hat Expresso was also accommodating in making ice coffee drinks because our wedding day turned out to be a warm and sunny. I had such an awesome, memorable wedding, and Tim and Anna definitely contributed to that by their great customer service. And you can definitely have fun at a wedding without alcohol. We had expresso shots to end our day! If you are every looking to spice up a party, definitely hire them! I can go on and on about their professionalism and the delicious tasting coffee, lattes, chai tea, and expresso drinks Tim and Anna lovingly made. I will hire them again in a heartbeat!

I experienced Top Hat Espresso at a wedding that my family's company was catering this past Spring 2019. WOW! 1. The two employees working were so kind, patient, and thoughtful. They managed the line of excited coffee fanatics like pros and were able to serve everyone their special drinks. 2. Their set up was awesome. I felt like I was at a mini coffee shop. They had all of the equipment needed to make the specialty drinks. They also had a nice menu listing what drinks were available. 3. Most importantly, my cappuccinos were amazing (Yes, I had two). They made it just how I asked. It tasted perfect and hit the spot for this coffee lover. I loved the service and drinks so much that I reached out to Top Hat Espresso for my wedding.

My husband Reginald "Reggie" Berry and I were married at JG Domestic in Philadelphia, PA on June 20th of this year, and hiring Tim and the gang at Top Hat Espresso was one of our best moves! Although we still served wine, beer, and alcohol at our wedding we personally aren't really drinkers. I do LOVE however espresso based drinks, chai's etc... so I knew I had to search for a vendor like Top Hat. I wasn't disappointed! Tim made everything so EASY! From start to finish, the process of booking this company was simple and they really came through! I wish I had more photos of them serving our guests, but I'm glad to have the ones that I do have... every guest with a cup looked extremely happy! People couldn't stop talking about how cool it was to be able to just order pretty much ANY drink! We even signed up to offer the "cold drink/iced coffee" package. Thanks Top Hat!
