Topper's Rhum Distillery

Words cannot describe how awesome Topper's is. We visited for the first time 4 years ago on a tour organized by our cruise. Christina was super informative, kind, and made the whole tour simply fun. My parents returned a couple of months ago to discover Christina as their guide, again, and Topper's was still as great as the first visit. We have recommended many friends to Topper's, for the tour and just simply to visit, who have had the same experience throughout. The experience is parallel to the phenomenal rum. It is super hard to find stateside, and many flavors are island-only specials. I recommend if you like a flavor you buy it on island. I cannot more enthusiastically recommend Topper's.

A fun, boozy little tour.I booked the 1.5 hour rum tour as an extra excursion from my cruise. It was an easy taxi ride from Philipsburg. The tour, led by a fun and knowledgeable tour guide, provides a wild variety of rums to taste and most of them can be purchased in the shop after (choose the white labels as they can only be purchased there). There is a portion of the tour where they ask for volunteers to handout tastings or rum, rum cake, and rum gelato while another volunteer cooks chicken with rum. Everyone gets to try it! Volunteer if you can. The tour also includes the bottling room where you can appreciate the small hands on aspect of their production. Well worth the $33 ticket.

On a last minute decision to get a tour of Toppers Rhum, Loyd from twin island excursions was so generous to bring us to the distillery and wait for our tour to finish. We had such a great time. One of the best distillery tours we’ve been on. Everyone including Cristina is so friendly and accommodating. Can’t thank them enough.

This is a high-energy, 90-minute hands-on tour through a 6,000-square-foot boutique facility. Unlike massive industrial sites, Topper’s feels personal; you’ll see the lab for new flavors, the fermentation process, and the hand-bottling line. This is an amazing tour that must be seen to be believed. It's truly Home made. The sheer volume of samples is the biggest highlight. Guests are typically greeted with a homemade Rum Punch followed by over 20 different tastings. Flavors range from signature classics like Coconut and Mocha Mama to wild "experimental" batches like Bacon & Maple Syrup, Cotton Candy, and Jalapeño Lime. The tour includes a cooking demonstration where volunteers can help prepare rum-infused dishes, like island orange chicken. You also sample rum-infused gelato and their famous homemade rum cake. Delicious! Our tour also included a full lunch in their amazing attatched restaurant. The chicken & ribs were perfectly prepared and very tasty. An included rum punch was another great addition. The resteraunt is spotless clean with fantastic detailed service. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Our tour guide Julia was absolutely amazing! Her professional, friendly and pleasant attitude made this great tour that much better. She's a true ambassador for the Toppers brand. Thank you, Julia! You really bring the island's rum history to life.

Did the 1.5 hour tour at Toppers Rum and it was well worth it. The price is very affordable, especially for the amount of rum flavors you get to try. Our tour guide Cristina was amazing, engaging, friendly, knowledgeable, and just downright fun. The group we were with was hilarious and by the end it felt like we all knew each other. I also loved that everything is made in house and they’ve kept things interesting as a company. Highly recommend adding this to your list while visiting.

We aren't ones for sweet drinks/rum, so we wooked an aged rum experience for two and had Theresa as our lovely guide. Over the course of nearly two hours we were taught about the background behind the distillery, tasted quite a few aged rums, picked our favorites, and bottled each of our favorites by hand. A few points need to be docked for not getting our 10% tour discount on the delicious rum cake we purchased (which we realized too late), and for having no mention on the tour description that we need to pay an additional $100/bottle (!) to take home each aged rum bottle that we filled during the tour (it seemed to be included in the base experience fee if you read the description). Overall though, we had a lovely time.

Advertised as a tour but mostly it’s rum tasting of dozens of flavoured rums. Nothing about rum making or historical developments. You need to buy in advance and book a spot. US$33 per person. Group size is too large for the small spaces.

We had such a great time at Toppers Rhum Distillery! Our tour was led by Christina, she made the whole experience fun, easygoing, and super informative. She walked us through the rum-making process and shared some really cool stories along the way. The best part was the tasting, so many flavors to try, from smooth classics to unique blends we’d never tasted before. Christina explained the notes and gave us great suggestions, which made it even more enjoyable. The distillery itself is clean, welcoming, and has a lot of character. We picked up a couple of bottles from the gift shop to bring home, couldn’t resist! Overall, this was one of the highlights of our trip to St. Maarten. If you love rum (or even if you just want to try something new), definitely check out Toppers and ask for Christina if you can. She’s amazing!
