As travel experts in Bukhara, we recommend Toqi Telpakfurushon to guests who enjoy historic markets and want to shop in one of the city’s most atmospheric domed bazaars. Built around 1570–1571 under Abdullakhan II, this ‘Dome of the Cap Makers’ stands at a junction where five streets meet, its hexagonal base and 14.5‑meter central sphere‑shaped dome with 12‑sided light drum creating a beautiful play of light and shadow inside. In the past it was famous for fur hats, sheepskin coats, turbans and fine fabrics sold by cap‑makers and cloth merchants; today the cool vaulted space is filled with stalls selling doppi skullcaps, traditional clothing, carpets, ceramics, jewelry, antiques and handicrafts, while some artisans still work directly in their small workshops. We usually suggest guests walk through Toqi Telpakfurushon between Lyabi‑Hauz and Poyi Kalon, looking up at the ribs of the dome, chatting with sellers and, if they want a practical souvenir, choosing a locally made doppi or hat from the bazaar that gave this trading dome its name.
