Stay here at your own risk — an absolute rip-off at £165 a night.||From the moment we arrived, it was obvious this place wasn’t prepared for guests. Builders were blocking the path to the shepherd’s hut, with materials scattered across the ground. The outside was unkempt — weeds everywhere, a neglected BBQ, a rusty fire pit with just one piece of wood, and a dated hot tub that hadn’t been properly cleaned. The water was lukewarm, sitting below a visible dirt line.||Inside, the hut itself was at least clean and reasonably comfortable, but that was the only positive. We had booked for two nights but decided after one to leave and request a refund. When I asked the landlady the next morning, she rolled her eyes but agreed, telling me to go through Booking.com.||However, when I applied for the refund, I was told the owner had refused it. I called her directly, and she was not only extremely rude but claimed I had “ambushed” her and changed her mind. We would never have left if we’d known she would go back on her word.||The result: we were scammed out of our money, forced to pay for a proper hotel instead. This is not a genuine glamping experience — it’s a poorly maintained, substandard site run with zero regard for guests.||Avoid at all costs. Consider this a warning before you waste your hard-earned money.

We booked this property for a relaxing glamping experience, but it turned out to be anything but.||When we arrived, the landlady rushed in, visibly irritated, and said they “weren’t ready for guests yet,” muttering her frustration with Booking.com for supposedly making another mistake. She never introduced herself and made us feel like we were intruding rather than paying guests.||The outdoor area looked neglected and poorly maintained. The hot tub water was slimy and clearly hadn’t been changed recently — you could see the mark where the previous water level had been. It wasn’t properly filled, and the water was lukewarm at best. We didn’t stay in long, as it simply didn’t feel clean or inviting.||Because the experience fell so far short of what was advertised, we spoke to the owner the next morning to ask if we could leave a day early and receive a refund for the second night. She agreed verbally and told us to confirm it in writing through Booking.com so she wouldn’t be charged commission for the cancelled night.||However, when Booking.com later contacted her to confirm the cancellation, she completely changed her story — claiming she had a “non-refundable” policy and refusing the refund she had promised. When we tried to discuss it with her directly, she was rude, dismissive, and hung up mid-conversation.||Booking.com support then told us that, without the owner’s cooperation, they couldn’t issue the refund either. Despite multiple calls and emails over several weeks, nothing has been resolved. The whole experience was frustrating, stressful, and deeply disappointing.||The cabin cost £165 per night, which was far from justified given the state of the facilities and the lack of professionalism shown. I would strongly advise future guests to think twice before booking here.

Tor Royal, the largest remaining holding of the Duchy of Cornwall. ||Justine, the "Super host" will spend as much time as you would like to share information about the Duchy holding or the area, with things to do. ||The farmhouse breakfast was delicious, the rooms comfy and an extra star for the heated towel rails on a chilly spring day. ||Great place to use as a base to explore Devon and Northern Cornwall.

We stayed here for three nights while walking around Dartmoor - Justine was a great host and was happy to help us out with local walks, pubs and the like. The house and gardens are a great setting, we especially loved getting to know the dogs, chickens, ducks and sheep! The breakfast was delicious each day and the rooms were spotless each night when we came back. We'd definitely stay here again.

Wonderful place to stay! The staff were really friendly and helpful. The house and the room we were in (we stayed in the Lilly suite!) Had absolutely beautiful decor. It was perfectly clean, the bathroom in particular was clean as a whistle which I was very pleased with... No one wants a gross shower cubicle 😄 tea services and mini fridge in the room were really good too. the location is very pretty, just do bare in mind that Dartmoor gets cold and misty if you haven't been before! Lol. It is the perfect place for a quiet, relaxing weekend away. I highly recommended.

We have just returned from spending a couple of days at Tor Royal, wow an amazing house in a beautiful location, surrounded by nature at its best, a lovely working farm with a fascinating history. . We stayed in The Garden Room, which was perfect for our dog with a private enclosed garden. Very friendly hostess and brilliant breakfast. If you want a peaceful welcoming B&B in a brilliant location, this is for you! Loved it.

Returning to celebrate our wedding anniversary, this time with two horses and a dog in tow! Pubs were closed (thank you covid) so Justine cooked a delicious supper for us on our first evening. Stabling and grazing were available and the horses soon settled. Our dog decided that life as a farm dog was very acceptable and our room was delightful with a door out to a small enclosed garden. We slept so well despite it being three of the hottest days of the year, breakfast was delicious and the possibilities of riding or walking out onto the moor are fantastic. We were unlucky to pick a week when one pub was closed and the other closed down in Princetown which is a good walk up the road from Tor Royal ( spectacular views) but we ate in The Fox Tor cafe at lunchtime and had a trip to Tavistock on the other day. We rode, walked and even found places to swim and had a few days of Dartmoor adventure, based at friendly and comfortable Tor Royal.
