Torabhaig Distillery is the second single malt distillery on the Isle of Skye, following Talisker. Its roots lie on a historic farmstead dating back to the mid-18th century, built on the site of an Iron Age fort. Planning for the distillery began in the early 2000s, with Mossburn Distillers acquiring the site and completing the restoration and construction. Spirit production commenced in 2017, making it the first new Skye distillery in nearly 190 years.
The distillery emphasizes artisanal craftsmanship with traditional copper pot stills, wooden washbacks, and local water sources from nearby burns. Torabhaig is known for its well-tempered peat character, combining smoke, maritime influence, and the unique terroir of Skye. Its “Legacy Series” bottlings, beginning in 2021, showcase this distinctive style and have been highly regarded by whisky enthusiasts.
