Torishi - Japanese Yakitori Izakaya

Great food, skewers were extremely creative delicious and quick. Staff was very attentive and food came out quick. The restaurant was quiet with a happy vibe. Great music everyone is very friendly. Great place for dinner with friends or a late night snack. The restaurant is upstairs. Udon was very silky the skewers were amazing definitely recommend the chicken thing with cheese. If you are looking for a fat juicy bite of meat the pork belly is great. Many reviews said food came out cold but in my scenario the food came out piping hot.

We really tried to be understanding, but our experience here was extremely disappointing — from the way we were seated to how disorganized the service was. We joined the waitlist as a group of three. When our table was ready, there were two open tables — one small two-person table by the window and a larger four-person table near the entrance. Despite this, we were squeezed into the two-person table with an extra chair awkwardly added. When we politely asked if we could switch to the larger table, the host told us it was reserved. However, about 10–20 minutes later, a group of two who had also joined the waitlist were seated there instead. Later, another table for four opened up. Because our tiny table was so cramped that we accidentally spilled beer, we asked again if we could move. This time, the host said it was being saved for a group of six — yet that table sat empty for more than 30 minutes before another group of two was seated there. At that point, it was hard not to feel misled. If the restaurant did not want to accommodate a switch, we would have appreciated straightforward communication rather than repeated excuses. We were the only group of three squeezed into a two-person table while multiple parties of two were comfortably seated at larger ones. It made the entire dining experience messy, uncomfortable, and frankly unreasonable. The waitress and waiter were kind, but the service itself felt very unorganized. Every time we finished a plate, we had to hand it to them ourselves — no one came to clear the table. With such limited space, it quickly became messy and uncomfortable. Food service was also inconsistent. Some skewers came out lukewarm. After finishing what had been served, we sat waiting for around 15 minutes before a server checked in to ask if we were missing anything. We explained we were missing one chicken shrimp and two chicken skewers. She went to check and came back saying the chicken shrimp was sold out — even though another staff member had earlier told us it would “come later.” It also doesn’t make sense for a single set of three to be cooked and served separately like that. Overall, between being improperly seated, given conflicting information, and dealing with disorganized service and uneven food, this visit was extremely frustrating. What should have been an enjoyable dinner turned into an uncomfortable and disappointing experience from start to finish.

Pork neck with citrus chilli and Masago mayo chicken were our favourite skewers. We tried the Creamy curry karaage udon and Creamy masago beef udon. They were both amazing and tasty! We came back twice just to eat it and now craving it again as I’m writing this review. Highly recommend this place, they also have a really great atmosphere !!!

I’m a big fan of Japanese yakitori, so I was really excited when I first found this place — the photos looked amazing. But honestly, today’s experience was a bit disappointing. The wait time was pretty long, especially for a Tuesday evening. The skewers overall tasted good, but they were all served cold. My favorite was the Shrimp Chicken skewer, though the chicken wing was extremely salty (too much salt and black pepper, I think). My friend ordered the same one later and had the same reaction. The creamy masago beef udon took around 40 minutes to arrive, and it turned out very watery 🥹. I really wanted to love this place, but I don’t think I’ll come back unless they make some changes.

It's interesting to read the other reviews. The restaurant is new and still trying to get a good flow. Service and atmosphere was great, food for me was just ok as it came out not as hot as I like. Flavor was good tho.. Still have their 30% off and free drink promo. Service was the best part.

Tried out this new skewer spot and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. You can tell they care about what they're serving. The service was also great—friendly staff and quick turnaround. They don’t have a liquor license yet (still new), so keep that in mind if you're expecting drinks. Prices are on the higher side for skewers, but the opening BOGO deal makes it a solid value for now. Hopefully they keep up the quality and get the drinks going soon! Worth a visit while the promo lasts.

Absolutely love Torishi! The yakitori was juicy and flavorful, the donburi was rich and satisfying, and the udon noodles had the perfect texture. Finished with a creamy ice cream dessert — everything was amazing from start to finish. Cozy atmosphere and super friendly staff. Highly recommend!

Overall food is good, but it’s just very bad dinning experience. Waited for every skewer for 5-10 mins and you only need 20sec to finish one skewer. 30% off is tempting but this place needs way more improvement in terms of the overall SOP. Won’t come again until it’s improved.

Yelp
Walked down Baldwin street and tried this new yakitori place on the second floor since we like skewers. We came right at opening and it filled up quickly by the time we left at around 6pm. Easy to order by scanning a QR code, but prices are based on one skewer. Quick review: wagyu beef tongue was my favorite since it was soft, flavorful and seasoned well. Beef short rib was a bit tough approx 5 small pieces per stick. Chicken was alright. Skewers range between $4-7 per piece. Unagi don was good portion size. Classic unagi with soft boiled egg and scallions on rice. Could be better w a pickle or radish to balance the heaviness. Chicken karage curry udon was very flavorful with bouncy udon and a tasty creamy sauce. This was probably my favorite!! Overall I'd recommend their chicken curry udon w the creamy sauce!

Yelp
Torishi Yakitori Izakaya is a great space to hangout and grab beers and snacks! We were here for their grand opening offer of a FREE draft beer and 30% off our order, valid until Nov 10. Torishi is located upstairs and it is a nice space with lots of 2s, 4s, and longer tables to accommodate groups. Come early to get a spot as it gets filled up quickly and the wait is 45 min or longer after that. The wait times for food is 25+ mins due to everything being made fresh, I think they will improve on this as they get used to the order flow as waiting on our second round of orders took a while. The servers were friendly and attentive. The vibe was great, there were several groups there for a gathering and the house beers are cheap and smooth. The yakitori is pretty pricey, while their bowls are a reasonable price. What we ordered: - Curry Karaage Udon - Chicken meat stick x2 - Masago + wasabi + yuzu + scallion pork belly skewer - Chicken skewer x4 Each skewer is only about 3 - 4 pieces of meat so plan accordingly. (They have little cups to hold the used skewers at every table.) All the meat is perfectly seasoned and the flavors are strong and clean due to the charcoal they use. Will be back to try their other udon bowls.

Yelp
Torishi did not disappoint, decently priced food & drinks, nice spot for a night out! Service was speedy but some skewers can be a little slow to come out. Thankfully you can join the wait list online but it does move pretty slow during peak dinner times.

Yelp
I was wandering downtown during my work dinner break. I happened to wander to Baldwin Street, which is rare. I wanted to go to a Chinese BBQ skewer place across the street, but it was packed. I turned around and saw a grand opening sign for a Japanese yakitori restaurant. Sweet! I ordered a Creamy fish roe and beef udon. I think menu said salmon roe, but salmon roe isn't this small, right? In any case, it was very good. I ordered the wagyu beef tongue skewer. By mistake they put down the beef tongue appetizer. The bartender guy was apologetic and quickly rectified the situation. He gave me the appetizer for free and made the skewers again. The wagyu tongue tasted very good. The appetizer tongue was also good but the sauce made it a bit salty for my taste. The servers were also very friendly. One waitress was still learning her English. The bartender was very attentive. He came over right away when I just glanced up to look around. He was also apologetic for making mistakes on opening. They're probably still figuring things out. Overall very good and you have good potential. Keep up the good work. I wish you all the best. Food: 8/10. Service: 8/10. Value: 6/10. Overall: 8/10 (not an average)
