In Nova Scotia, Mi’kmaq Lobster Fishermen Fought to Save Their Way of Life

"The country's prime minister famously greeted Syrian refugees when they arrived at the nation's main international airport in 2015, saying, "Tonight they step off the plane as refugees, but they walk out of this terminal as permanent residents of Canada," a remark quoted in the New York Times that the story cites to illustrate the country's self-image versus its treatment of Indigenous people." - Ivy Knight

My experience here, for both the arrival and departure was good and smooth. Arrival on AI 187 from Delhi was good for immigration , luggage collection, complimentary WiFi and washrooms facilities. We had to wait a little longer than normal to get off the aircraft , though. For departure, the check in, security check all was smooth. For facilities , the gate here is little different from other airports, the duty free shops are just beside the gates, the seating area a charging point almost on every 2 seats. The walking from check in to gates are longer than normal though. Currency exchange here are in abundance but the rate is something I couldn't find a rationale to. For the transfers to this place, Uber and Lyft offer to select the drop off point as per the airlines , Hopp doesn't have the facility though. To ride a ride app vehicle get a level down to basement after exiting the arrival gates. Overall a good airport!!!

I go here often to pickup or drop off people. Don’t get me wrong. The airport is nice. But it’s nothing special. There are no landmarks or places that make it recognizable. It’s impressive how many people they can have travel through them each day. It sucks that you can’t wait outside the doors to pick up your guest, but you have to keep circling the roads. Also. Parking is a pain. I parked to pick up someone, and it said maximin of 3 hours. I was about 2.5 hours as the flight was delayed. That was a $49 ticket 🤯. Also, the prices at each vendor is high of course cause of convenience. There is a fair bit of sitting throughout the airport, but not enough in the buzziest areas. Starbucks is right across the international arrivals, and it’s always busy, with people buying, or with people taking the chairs to wait for the arrivals. Washrooms are way too far from the busy areas (like the international arrivals). You had to walk all the way to the edge of the airport. And for my 71 year old mom, that was not an easy walk. There should be washrooms right at arrivals, considering people are coming from long flights. Anyways, disgraced here. The airport it well connected. You can walk indoors from the parking garage to the airport wing. You can also take the subway there, and I’m sure busses too. I recommend park and fly at car rental locations cause it saves you a lot of money. Pay close attention to the signs guiding you, as there are a lot of twists and turns to get to any location you want to. Oh, never ever leave your car unattended at the exit doors from the airport, even to helps someone to carry stuff. If your car is unattended they will most likely ticket you. Oh and the carts you can use to push your luggage they cannot go on escalators, so you have to use the elevators which are also not very conveniently located, which I get. Other than that, it’s an airport.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Toronto Pearson International Airport – Truly Amazing! ✈️🇨🇦 I recently had the pleasure of traveling through Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), and I must say — it was an absolutely amazing experience! 🙌 From start to finish, everything was smooth, clean, and well-organized. 🧼 Clean & Comfortable: The first thing I noticed was how spotless the airport is! The floors, seating areas, and washrooms were all incredibly clean. 🧽✨ Despite being a very busy airport, it never felt crowded or chaotic. The overall vibe was calm, quiet, and relaxing, which made waiting for my flight so much easier. 😌 👩‍💼 Friendly & Helpful Staff: The people at Pearson are so kind and helpful! 💕 Whenever I needed directions or assistance, there was always someone nearby ready to help with a smile. Their friendly attitude really makes you feel welcome and cared for. 🤝 🚗 Plenty of Parking: Parking was also a breeze! There are lots of parking spots, and everything is clearly marked and easy to find. Whether you’re parking for a few hours or several days, the process is very convenient and stress-free. 🅿️✅ 🛫 Etihad Airways Experience: I traveled with Etihad Airways, and their check-in counters at Pearson were so well-organized. Everything from dropping off my luggage to going through security was quick and smooth. 👏 The staff were polite, efficient, and professional — making the start of my journey even better! ✨ ☕🛍️ Amenities & Atmosphere: Toronto Pearson also has a great variety of restaurants, cafes, and shops. 🍴☕🛒 Whether you want a quick snack or some last-minute shopping, there’s something for everyone. Free Wi-Fi was fast 💨, the signage was clear, and the seating areas were comfortable and plentiful. 🪑📶 🌟 Overall: Toronto Pearson International Airport is without a doubt one of the best airports I’ve ever been to! 💯 Everything — from cleanliness and comfort to service and organization — was top-notch. I left with such a positive impression and would happily travel through Pearson again. ✈️✨ Highly recommend Toronto Pearson Airport! Friendly people, great service, and a truly world-class experience. 🇨🇦❤️

Google
A well-organized airport and easily one of the most convenient travel hubs in Canada. The first thing you notice is how spacious it is, lots of room to move around, clear signage, and a layout that makes navigating between check-in, security, and the gates fairly straightforward compared to many other major airports. Even during busy hours, the space helps prevent that crowded, stressful feeling most travelers dread. One thing I really appreciated is the variety of shops available, especially the wide selection of Canadian souvenirs. If you forgot to pick up gifts during your trip or just want to grab something last-minute, this airport makes it incredibly easy. From maple products and local snacks to clothing and unique items representing different parts of Canada, the options are genuinely impressive. It’s perfect for travelers who want to bring back something meaningful without having to run around the city searching for shops. There are also plenty of food choices, lounges, and rest areas spread throughout the terminals, making long layovers a lot more tolerable. Overall, Toronto Pearson is a clean, modern, and traveler-friendly airport with great amenities and lots of last-minute shopping options, especially for souvenirs. A solid departure or arrival experience.

Google
A much better airport than we expected. We were honestly expecting a bad experience based on what we read, but it was great. US customs was particularly easy to clear. The only downside was that we were stuck here overnight because of a government shutdown, but the airline graciously put us up in a nice hotel.

I had excellent experience in 2023, I lost my laptop in security check area (during Toronto to Istanbul flight) after 28 hours I communicate with them. Lost and found service surprise me, causes they got my laptop on that day. After few days I collected laptop from them by some security check I faced that was Sometimes very busy airport

Google
Very large and modern airport. It is located outside the city and offers many duty-free shops and restaurants. The terminals are connected by a train, everything is super well marked and organized. Very clean and comfortable. We traveled without any problems, everything was great.

Google
Toronto Pearson International is Canada's busiest airport, and growing. After reporting 43.7 million passengers in 2023, it experienced a 4.4% increase to 46.8 million passengers in 2024. The first time I used this airport was in October of 2025, when I arrived via Terminal 3 (from Washington, DC) and departed (to Phoenix, AZ) from Terminal 1 slightly less than 24 hours later. Obviously, this is a busy airport (on the day I left, they reported via X that they were "expecting more than 128,000 passengers with 956 flights departing and arriving [that day]... "), so they are as efficient as international airport I've seen. There is also the normal array of (expensive) restaurants and a variety of stores that are willing to take you money as you wait for flights. That is standard practice in international airports, and Toronto Pearson is comparative. However, with 14.3 million of those travelers (about 30.5%) reported to be connecting passengers, it never ceases to amaze me how uncomfortable airport seating is. I didn't see many, or any, places to rest, lay back, or lie down. Instead, there were thousands of the uncomfortable airport seats that you seem to be able to find almost anywhere in the world, along with the requisite passengers stretching and bending as they battle to achieve some level of comfort.

Yelp
Every few months, I fly into Toronto Pearson International Airport. This is to visit family though occasionally I have a work conference there, too. I typically fly in and out of Terminal 3 when I fly American Airlines though on the rare occasion, I instead fly Air Canada and travel in and out of Terminal 1. I often find myself renting a vehicle, speeding through customs and security, and enjoying airport lounges. I interact with a lot of the airline staff in Toronto, which is probably why I find their current slogan and campaign "I am Toronto Pearson" to be very kind and considerate as it focuses on the people working at the airport. Unlike friends who absolutely hate flying, I enjoy the travel experience, especially when using some helpful tools like Nexus, airport lounge membership, and airline status, all of which I was able to enjoy during my Toronto airport visits. When checking in, I was able to skip the check-in area if I didn't need to check bags (as I checked in online) on one of my trips, and then this most recent time, I checked in at the priority area for assistance and checking bags. I then went to the Terminal 3 check-in and used Nexus to go through to the expedited part of the Security line (which also works if someone has Global Entry). I also found that it was easy to navigate the car rental area from exiting the customs and baggage claim areas to walking to the appropriate rental car areas. I did have to learn the hard way that some rental car companies may confuse your arrival between Terminals 1 and 2, and then you may need to take the shuttle between the terminals. I have also taken the UP Express train from the airport to the Downtown Toronto area. As for the dining and shopping options, there are 87 dining options and 63 shopping options the airport. As for lounges, I usually frequent the Admirals Club and Plaza Premium Lounge at the Terminal 3 TransUSA border gates (A gates) though there are many other lounges at the airport including the KLM Crown Lounge, Maple Leaf Lounge, and Rogers Passenger Pods. There certainly is something for everyone. If you have an American Express Platinum card, you can receive complimentary Valet Care Service at Terminal 1, and if you use your Platinum card to pay for parking at the Express Park in Terminal 1 and Daily Park in Terminals 1 and 3, you get a 15% discount on parking rates as a statement credit. You can also receive Priority Security Lane access for you and each of your accompanying guests. Platinum Card members can also enjoy a 15% discount on Car Care services from Toronto Pearson's quality car cleaning and detailing service, available in Terminal 1. All in all, it's a good airport, and throughout my regular trips to Toronto, I have gotten into my routine for my check-in experience, customers/security, shopping, lounges, and flights. I look forward to exploring more at the Toronto Pearson International Airport in the future, especially when next flying in Terminal 1.

Yelp
This airport was chaos. After landing and navigating the extensive maze of winding hallways to get to the terminal, it was a short wait to get through immigration, but then it's like all international flights were emptied into a large area with the narrowest exit. You had to show the tiniest piece of paper with a thumbnail sized image of yourself to leave. With the amount of people flowing out, it really seemed like there had to be a better way. It was just bonkers. Bonkers in the way that total strangers would make eye contact and we all had this mutual understanding that this was dumb. A more orderly way to get international travelers safely processed and not feel like we're cattle has to exist. Fortunately I didn't have to fly out of here. I flew back home out of Montreal, but if I had flown out of this airport, I may have a different perception, but since the arrival here seemed so botched, it was surprising. I've been to many international airports and this one ranks really low in my overall experience because of how chaotic it is. I would've given it one star, but I love Canada, so by virtue of this airport being in a country I adore, it gets an extra courtesy star because I believe it can do better.

Yelp
Management should be hanging their heads in shame. Canada's largest airport is a disgrace. It is a filthy, dirty unkempt space. I have been in bus stations overseas which are cleaner! We saw countless airport staff (wearing airport uniforms) sleeping on chairs, on their phones ... everywhere else but doing their jobs - and it shows. How embarrassing an image when overseas visitors come through Canada's largest airport.

Yelp
Ok, so not on my list of airports im ok being stranded in. It's dated with very few spots to charge anything. Gate areas are older and uncomfortable. Bathrooms dirty and unattended. I'm not one for shopping, but there's not any in case you are someone who spends your airport hours shop browsing. The only places to eat are fast food style and getting gluten free was a real challenge. All I can say is.. glad our plane was on time!
google avatar

Vinkin Ken T.

Yelp
I have arrived in terminal 1 from the US a few times. Each time I go through arrival, it's the same path. It feels dated. It's also quite far to reach customs and immigration. As far as returning back to the US with global entry, I feel like there's a lack of signage. I think it's pretty dumb I had to go around the "block" per se, to enter. But once I found it, it was a breeze to go through. There was no long queue this time. I saw signage to sign up for CBP MPC which I signed up for but it was still quicker to go through the global entry line. My carry on was searched because I forgot to check in some medicated lotions that exceeded 100ml but I think there's a new rule that it's allowed so thankfully I didn't have to discard it. Yay.

Yelp
Very clean and new airport. Very organized and as a connection, it was super quick. We did not have to go through security or multiple checkpoints again. Lots of cool shops and eateries here, including Tim Hortons and Wahlburgers. They have english and french everywhere. Very nice experience!
google avatar

Diane K.

Yelp
Very smooth transition from Canada to USA via U S Customs. Actually faultless. The employees were all friendly. Baggage drop off was self help, electronic. Scan your boarding pass, put the bag on the conveyor belt, and off it goes. Global Entry worked exceptionally well. And fast. Now, upon arrival at our USA airport, we have already cleared US Customs. Why did I take a photo of the a/c & USB jacks? THEY ALL WORKED! Wonderful, and not that way at the Austin, Tx airport.

Yelp
Very easy arrival into YYZ, breezed through customs and found ground transportation to my hotel easily. The return was equally stress free. Lines were short, had a helpful attendant to check me in and check my bag, breezed through TSA and it was a short walk to my gate. There was only one restaurant nearby (Hearth) but I found a decent $25 (!) burger and a Starbucks literally next door to my gate while I waited for departure. If only they could have controlled my flight delay...
google avatar

Janna L.

Yelp
Does anyone love spending time in an airport? I always arrive way too many hours in advance. How I roll. I wish I had endless cash for overpriced wine, massages and mediocre snacks but... It's a major hub with the best flights out of this tundra at lower costs and less connections than Ottawa and Montreal. Major downside... Driving through Toronto to get here. Choose your poison! Staff were fine.

Yelp
Pearson I have traveled through Pearson several times in the past couple of years. It is a modern, well-organized airport. Gates, checkpoints, and designated areas are clearly marked. It has multiple concourses. The Global Entry, TSA Pre-Check, and other special lines' entrance is all the way to the left. If you enter from the right side of the terminal, it is hard to know since there are so many signs for those until you are right in front of the entrance. I have always boarded through concourse F, which is relatively small and doesn't have many food or shopping options. It has one full dining restaurant, one duty-free store, a few small alcohol stores, and a Wahlburgers. I had to dig through the terminal map to figure out that concourse F connects to concourse E, which has a large number of stores and dining spots. Arrival and departures have been smooth. Arrival passengers moved through the second level, whereas departing passengers board on Level 1. Customs clearance has always been super quick for me. Overall, it's a decent transport hub.
google avatar

Neema B.

Yelp
Arrival was good. International travelers approach a kiosk to scan ID and such, answer questions and. E on your way. I found the restrooms very clean along with the airport overall. Departure: I was surprised to see Homeland Security Global Entry kiosks at the airport when we returned for our departure to the U.S. I was thankful though, because we were able to bypass a line that we would have otherwise waited ~25 mins in. My face was scanned and I proceeded to approach the customs officer for a quick verification before being sent on my way. I didn't even need to take out my passport.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Not really a fan. Very convoluted layout and pretty rundown. Dining selection was pretty poor. It is what it is but that's what you get.
google avatar

Yelp
I actual liked the airport. The bathrooms were clean and the signage was very good. They have a United States Immigration & Customs processing system in place. There were plenty of shops and food places. The walkways were spacious & clean.

Yelp
Ticket agent at WestJet needs to cool her jets! Getting caught up on technicality and going by the book. When a carousel for check in luggages are apparently malfunctioning, don't direct us to the nonoperative one, direct us to the source that's working. Two other gentlemen next to us, looked at me and shook their heads, so I nodded in agreement with them. We're able to get our checked in luggages weighed and tagged before sending them off to our next destination. After the hiatus, another obstacle emerged at TSA. My son placed a total of five items in the bin with his black puff jacket folded face up. We saw the items enter the x-ray. When the bin arrived at the end, we noticed the jacket missing. I tried to speak with the employee nearest at the end about the situation and was completely ignored. I walked down a little further, spoke with another employee who redirected me back to same agent. Not helpful. I requested to speak with the Supervisor. The first time I spoke with the Supervisor, he didn't take my request seriously. Finally with an assertive tone, I requested for my son's black puff jacket twice and described where I last saw it. My son intervened, "Mom, you don't need to yell." Supervisor reluctantly returned his jacket after customers were looking at us. We said, "Thank you." We went on our merry way. Thoughts were running in my mind, "So what TSA? Were you planning on keeping my son's puff jacket too? If we were not alert or didn't have an excellent memory?" When we arrived at the gate, we noticed defective or malfunctioning charging stations in a few areas. One gentleman offered to help, however, two were malfunctioning where he sat. Thank you to the kind, young lady who offered to remove her charger from the outlet and let me use the only functioning one in that area. Noteworthy gifts: Duty Free shops offer an abundance of Canadian ice wine, maple syrup if you didn't pick up at LCBO, winery or gift shop. No choice but to walk through. Tempted. Yes. Do you have the willpower to buy or not to purchase? All about marketing, merchandising, and consumerism.

Yelp
Toronto Pearson is a great destination airport as in if you are flying to Toronto, it's an excellent airport for transport into the city and the security line is really fast. BUT if you are connecting in Toronto, that is a different story altogether and it's a pretty miserable experience. Especially if you are doing a Canadian transport so if you are originating from Canada and going to the US more than likely, you're going to have to exit from your gate to go through security again and American immigration so it's going be a nightmare. Concessions could be better, but I think that's the case for most airports.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the consistent poorly operated airports I been to (only Amsterdam's Schiphol Summer of 2022, is worse), one of the workers directing traffic in the CBP zone, was asking all the travelers who wanted to use NEXUS/Global Entry for their physical cards. If you werent carrying the GE card, you were denied entry. In my 5+ years of using Global Entry, I have never been asked to carry this. The worker then asked if I wanted to speak with his boss and I said yes please. His boss came and then told him we should not be checking for NEXUS/Global Entry cards and then she let me through. The worker needs better training, from the CBP website "CBP accepts Global Entry cards for lawful U.S. entry at land and sea ports of entry." meaning you dont need to carry it if you are traveling by air https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry/frequently-asked-questions

Yelp
The way out waiting section is better than the way in leaving section. They have better signage and direction on the come to America side. Bathrooms are tiny. Hardly any stalls. There's hardly anywhere to charge your phone/laptop. And the one that I did find (on the return home side) didn't even work.
google avatar

Royce L.

Yelp
My first time using this airport and it was really one for a connection. It was also a short connection but the airport had all the basics. Restaurants, shops and food shops as well. It's a major customs hub I believe so going thru customs here was a breeze.

Yelp
I hardly depart from Terminal 3 but it seems to be when I was there all departures to the US. The aircraft was much smaller than typical planes, I was on Delta. I was disappointed as they didn't have great options for food if you're looking for a healthier choice. I wanted a smoothie at Booster Juice to start my morning but it seems like that's only at Terminal 1 or another gate I don't have access to. Even though the website says it may be at terminal 3, but it's certainly not at the gate where I was at. Check out the options listed in the display pic here and prep yourself prior to leaving. 2 tacos at El Catrin runs you at nearly $16. The Toronto Pearson website is also horrible at dividing the food options by terminal so it's not easy to navigate to see what are all the food options in this terminal until you get there.
google avatar

Kree J.

Yelp
For it to be my first visit, Toronto Pearson Airport proved to be a busy hub that delivered a smooth travel experience. I flew with Air Canada, and the overall process was efficient. Check-in and security were well-managed despite the high volume of travelers, and the staff were polite and helpful. The airport itself is clean and modern, with plenty of signage to guide you through the terminals. There's a decent selection of dining and shopping options, though prices are, as expected, on the higher side. One thing to note is that the airport can get very crowded, so giving yourself extra time is always a good idea. Air Canada's boarding process was orderly, and the airline staff were professional.
google avatar

Andrew M.

Yelp
Returning US Citizens are afforded a satellite TSA and Customs facility to pre-clear customs. Follow the signs to check-in aisle 11 (marked with the US flag). We were on an Air Canada flight. Our Air Canada boarding passes were marked TSA Pre-Check because we provided our Known Traveler IDs when we booked the trip. I also have GOES Global Entry. The screening agent asked to see my GOES ID card. This doesn't usually happen. I was still allowed to use the Global Entry kiosks. Lesson learned: Carry your GOES ID when I travel. When our flight arrived in Los Angeles, we did not have to go through Customs again (because we did it before leaving Pearson International). This was a great service!

Yelp
Great, clean well organaized airport ( LAX, take a note). But $21.50 For 6 ounce white wine. Just come here and you won't need to go AAA :)

Yelp
Flew into and from Toronto Pearson to attend the eras tour and my experience was okay. My time at the airport was very short and very early so I did not have any food, drink or need to use many amenities. Baggage took forever when I landed which was annoying as I was in a rush to meet my friend. Customs was easy peasy since I used the customs apps that Air Canada and United recommended. Also had a very polite and non intimidating customs officer.

Yelp
AIRPORT COULD BE BETTER We had a short layover at the Toronto Pearson International Airport on our way to Quebec City. This is an old airport and it was a super long walk from the arrival gate to Canada customs. We did not see any moving walkways, monorails or people movers. We were also surprised that there were no rest rooms in the immediate area of the arrival gate - did I mention it was a long walk to customs :o( Clearing customs was easy - you enter your info at a kiosk, scan your passport and receive a printed receipt. The customs agent took our receipts and pointed us in the direction of the departure gates. At the departure gate, we did not see many places to grab a bite while we waited for our flight to Quebec City. No delicious Tim Horton donuts or a double-double to welcome us to Canada :o)

Yelp
First time traveling to Toronto and YYZ airport was a breeze. Honestly impressed with the digital self-service customs clearance. Upon landing, I was done in 5 minutes and quickly exited the airport (I travel carry-on only). Easily found the shared ride service waiting area and ordered an Uber. Signage throughout the airport is clear and concise, which makes it easy to navigate. On the flight back home (USA), the airport was surprisingly busy around 3am for travelers USA bound, who undergo US Customs Clearance after the standard security clearance. The secondary checkpoint (US CC area) doesn't open until 3:30am and the waiting area quickly filled up. That being said, I was fortunate to experience little wait time for entering and exiting YYZ. Overall solid experience.

Alex C.

Yelp
YYZ definitely has been one of the most poorly organized customs areas that I have ever had the displeasure of flying into. Upon arriving, there are giant signs directing people into lines for Citizens, Residents, and Nexus individuals. Like most arriving passengers, I was looking for other passports to no avail. Turns out, it was a single, tiny, unmarked line in which an airport employee would occasionally shout "OTHER PASSPORTS" and vehemently point to. She was unfortunately occupied with a question from an elderly passenger at the time, so a big mob of us just stood there in confusion wondering where to line up until she was finally available to shout and point again. Toronto airport has been upgraded with the automated kiosks at customs. Simply scan your passport, answer a few questions, and stare into the camera until it clears you and spits out a little slip of paper. From there, it was extremely unclear which direction the exit was. While EVERY airport I've ever flown into has a very clear exit path, there was no signage or roped off lines directing us out. Following along the perimeter of the roped area, I finally found an opening that essentially cut into another line that was also headed towards the exit. Instead of simply forming a separate line, they made us cut in front of other people in a pre-existing line just to get out. Literally all of this bottleneck and confusion could have been avoided by simply doing what every other modern airport in the world does. Have clear signage, individual lines that don't just merge into one another, and people directing traffic in key intersections. Flying out of YYZ was equally as aggravating. While Air Canada had plenty of self-service kiosks, they had very few manned kiosks for my coworker who had issues with her flight and needed a live desk agent. Despite being one of Canada's largest airlines and having multiple lanes dedicated to their airline, it was incredible how poorly staffed the desks were for being the middle of the afternoon. There were also surprisingly few power outlets at the gate in Terminal 1. In this day and age, it's still baffling when an airport can't even supply more outlets for departing passengers.
google avatar

Yelp
This airport has no water bottle filling stations. You can only refill your water bottle at a fountain. That's the main reason for a low rating. Also, airflow was inadequate. It was uncomfortably warm. Otherwise, security check was quick, got to gate with plenty of time to spare
google avatar

Yelp
Compared to airports in the rest of the world, Pearson is slightly behind the times I'd say. You only have to look next door at our neighbours, who have some of the most efficient customs. Just simply too much red tape procedure. I don't care if they call it precautionary, attentive, safe (some bs word). All I know is, the usual rule of thumb is to get to an airport 3 hours before one's flight in case anything goes wrong. Well, at Pearson you might actually need all 3 of those hours because sometimes it moves so slow that you'll wish you had gotten to the airport 5 hours in advance. Absolutely ridiculous some of the line lengths. Employees are very hit and miss too. You talk to one staff they have no idea where anything is or how stuff works. You talk to another one smoking a cigarette outside and they sound like they know what they're talking about but their instructions are vague and unclear. Better staff training needed. The layout of the airport itself I also feel is not the most intuitive in some parts.

Yelp
This has to be one of the worst run airports in the world. When you take a 5 hour direct no -stop flight to Toronto and then you have to wait over 1 hour for your luggage there is nothing more to say

Yelp
Easy digital exit through customs. No waiting and no scrutiny. Unexpectedly easy for exiting a major international airport.

Yelp
One of Dante's circles of hell, I'm quite sure of it. All of the rudeness you can imagine packed on a flight from PHL to Toronto was firmly rooted here at YYZ (dumb by the way) and was evidenced in my dealings with both staff and fellow traveler. After running around their disjoined airport with busted people movers and elevators, I finally found my gate. Just to be told the flight is delayed two hours. Which in turn delays my whole life because I have a third connection to make which will not be made. No one at the desk is willing to help me and I'm Currently on hold for a half hour. The shopping and food and drink options here suck ass. Never pay Canadian conversion rate on smart water if you can help it. To top off this shit sundae, out of a mass of humanity I spot a couple empty chairs where I plan to post up and spend the next few hours of my life in misery. Well after sitting down a certain member of a certain entitled class demands I vacate them because he's been saving them for his whole clan. FOH bud. Ya wanna hear about my problems? Canada is lame, this we already knew. But their airport is essentially a diorama of the town's miserable and incompetent people hoarded entirely too close together doing fuck all.

Yelp
We had a several hour layover here on our way home from Greece. It's a pretty sizable airport and even though our connecting flight was in the same terminal, we had a pretty long jaunt over to our next gate. Even though it was a connecting flight, I'm sure since we were headed back to the states, we had to go through TSA again. I'm not sure I've ever seen such a thorough TSA process in my life lol! They were stopping many bags and searching through wallets and tiny pouches in people's bags. Even opening up some of the toiletry items that were clearly still within TSA limits. Using wands to search backpack straps, etc. It was interesting we hadn't had to remove our shoes through any TSA processes until this one. I asked one of the agents if it was because we were going BACK to the states and she confirmed it was. It wasn't a problem, I was just curious. The customs agent we had was pretty cool! He told us he needed to take our photos and see our passports and my oldest daughter full on struck a pose for her photo and we were all laughing about how quickly she got camera ready. He wasn't going to stamp our passports, but I asked if he could and he said a pose like that was deserving of a stamp so we went a couple booths down to grab one for us. There's a lot of duty free shops and restaurants available. I was personally thankful for the water bottle refilling stations. The one near our gate wasn't working, but there was another available nearby that was. Clean facilities as well.

Yelp
I've done quite a bit of international travel and the inefficiency of this airport puts it in the bottom 5 for airports in a first world country. We were asked to show our boarding passes so many times, at one point, 3x literally within 15 feet. If I showed my boarding bass at the entrants to the airline departure section, and they checked it when they swabbed my bag, why does it need to be checked again when I go through a 2nd round of customs. This all after an 8 hour flight, just added to the stress of the day. I'd avoid flying through this outdated airport if at all possible.

Yelp
Had an unexpected layover here in Toronto on my way back to LAX. Pretty easy to navigate, customs was a breeze, and quite a few restaurants and shops all around the airport. I landed on a Friday afternoon in mid October and it wasn't too crowded, so not sure how busy this airport usually is. Some negatives are there were not a lot of outlets to charge your phone or devices. You really have to look around to find some and at some gates, there were just four outlets for the whole area. The restrooms were also pretty dirty and none of them had toilet seat covers. Not sure if maybe it's a Canadian thing, but not one toilet I saw had any available. Besides that, i think it's just like any other major airport.

Yelp
We came through here recently on our journey up north and were pleasantly surprised. Our relatives had warned us that it, previously, was the worst airport in Canada. However, they've done a great job at improving since then. We had no issues with customs & immigration, and everyone in that group was friendly and courteous. Plenty of restaurants and shopping choices. We stopped to get some shirts for friends in one of the airport shops and they did have decent sales / no price gouging.

Yelp
Organized and not chaotic. Employees are actually so helpful - they're Canadian! Whenever I come through this airport, my blood pressure actually improves.

Yelp
I have only flown through this airport once as an adult. Unfortunately, if I plan to fly to Toronto, this is the only option unless I were to fly into a farther airport. I had a late night arrival into this airport and it was just a disaster. As soon as we walked off the plane, the security line was just madness--wait, there WEREN'T any lines, just chaos and frustrated passengers. Three stars seems generous for my arrival flight, but my return flight was a little more pleasant. I had three Uncle Tetsu cheesecakes and some tarts with me when going through the TSA line. Once the agent asked the question about having dairy, I candidly said I have three cheesecakes and 2 tarts, which did surprise him. LOL! I just let him know that I love to eat!! of course he laughed and let me through. I wasn't able to take pictures on my arrival flight because of the madness while trying to get in touch with my friend, who was also flying into the same airport. No pictures while flying out either because I was busy juggling my carry on and personal bags while and the cheesecakes/tarts!! I will eventually fly into this airport again and when I do, will be prepared for that "line" to go through security!! Hopefully it will have improved by then.

Yelp
A really busy airport that is chaotic. There are not enough staff directing people. The automated check-ins are not a good idea for all the foreigners and the elderly. Everyone needs help and there are not enough staff to do that. Which then leads to a back-up. Perhaps have counters and auto-check in? The atmosphere here is good. It's so nice to see international arrivals here with loved ones waiting in the arrivals section. This is probably one of the busiest international airports there is- the processing needs to be better. The staff are nice but they can only do so much.

Yelp
This airport is badly in need of updating. It is the craziest layout, a long strange walk to gates, old infrastructure and awful retail and food options. The exterior seems old, no landscaping, gray/colorless and blah. The service of most staff is really pleasant however which has been consistent with the Canadian travel experience.

Yelp
Honestly, I love Canada, but let me just tell you to never get a layover in Canada. In the past two decades that I have flown through any airport in Canada, it has been a hassle to get through immigration and this time we were pulled out to get inspected again. Luckily we had a six hour layover, but also our flight was in a new part of the airport that they were building and it was a 30 minute walk from where we were. The terminal that we were in for Air Canada that goes to the United States destinations was terrible and the food was really bad. I wish they had a kid play area in the terminal.

Yelp
People have their priorities when rating airports perhaps. I usually give good marks for the ones that most efficiently get me from A to B. Toronto works for that. Decent walk time coming in from International, and high marks for quick passport lines. They even figured out how to make it not too cold in winter--imagine. A little congested with the gate layout when all those crazies "line up" in a big pile, spilling into the walkway, leaving 1 foot for people to walk by (wait I'm in Canada, what's that in meters I mean metres?). Anyway it's too little space. But this is nitpicking so no stars lost. Otherwise happy times and a nice dollar-exchange rate makes this one of the cheaper places to grab a bite or duty-frees along your journey. And you can be to places like Dublin in 6.5 hrs, which is less time than Atlanta to Anchorage.

Yelp
This place has outgrown itself! Sooo many people, Sooo little space. Men's room has a very strong urine odor and the cleaning guy was just leaving with his little cart as I was walking in.. not quite sure what he did in there? Long lines of people at multiple gates blocking walkways, etc.. Who knows maybe they'll expand in the near future and buy some Fabuloso for the restrooms.

Yelp
This airport is large and very clean. From the moment you arrive, you are greeted by a well-organized layout, and helpful staff members who will guide you through the check-in and security process. The airport offers a diverse range of dining options, shopping opportunities, and amenities to keep passengers entertained and comfortable during their wait.

Yelp
I expected to see a much better version of this. The bathrooms are limited and quite dirty.

Yelp
My 1st int'l flight through Toronto, and airport employees were very friendly, efficient, and helpful. The security process wasn't too bad. All in all, process time was fairly fast, plus our flight was on time, so no complaints. I didn't give more stars because I didn't really experience the airport other than a layover, which was just fine.

Yelp
This place is huge. Our gate was F95 and if you asked me how we got there I could never tell you... Maps online don't even include this concourse so we didn't know if there was food down there...

Yelp
Super busy airport. For some reason, I always thought it was a much bigger airport when I was traveling to it when I was younger. I am most familiar with terminal 3 which is the international terminal. Customs is pretty easy to get through. The place has great signage so everything is easy to find.

Yelp
Worst. Airport. In. Canada. This one should be named after Justin Trudeau. More flights than gates. Luggage rarely makes the transfer from one plane to another.

Yelp
Easy to get around. Place was clean and workers were all friendly and kind. Lovely place to fly out off - stress free experience!
