Toronto's First Post Office

I didn't even know this existed until I was staying nearby and needed to mail something. It was the closest Canada Post outlet. What a sweet little find. The historic interior is spacious and offers modern-day post office facilities, a small selection of merchandise (most stationery related), and two separate rooms that detail the history of mail in Toronto. There are a few tables and chairs and some provided writing supplies, allowing you to write a letter on the spot. The atmosphere is quiet and hushed, like a library. It would be a sweet little stop in a sightseer's day.

Amazing historical place as this is Toronto's oldest existing post office. The staff are very friendly and we got to enjoy writing letters in ink with a quill pen as well as getting them wax sealed. Definitely recommend visiting it to learn more about the history of Toronto as well as early mail services in Canada.

Visited today. Lovely exhibits of postal history in Toronto. Lovely merchandise for sale. Even the permanent stamps I was looking for were available. Great place.

a super cute little museum that functions as s fully operational post office (the most charming post office in town for sure). you can learn a lot about Toronto (York) history in the context of early mail services. one of the museum rooms is restored to its original purpose - with writing desks that served customers who would pick up their letter and reply to them right away during the same visit. There are feather pens and old fashion ink provided, so you can try your penmanship skills. Many copies of early drawings of the city of York, with biographical notes of artists and people of influence of the era. Don't miss the amazing gift show with lovely stationary (and not only) items. a great place to get very unique presents or souvenirs. The museum is free and open 7 days a week (with exception of holidays).

I discovered the first Toronto post office was at the heart of Toronto. The exterior itself was a beautiful architecture and well maintained. At first, it looked like a regular building, but when you go inside you submerged into the 1830's. The place was small, but the best museum to visit. You get to use featured ink pen to write your name and sand it off to dry it, as how people used to do. The staffs were very patience and nice, I got traditional seal wax on my postcards, which were unique. A must go place to explore

Toronto's First Post Office currently provides post office services. People walk through the post office area. They will enter a cute museum. The museum provides table, paper, ink, and pens to the public for free.

This museum is a very quaint place which has a lot of historic information on display. This museum is free to the public. The front is still an active post office and gift shop. In the second room, you have desks where you can sit. There are quills and in wells where you can try your hand at writing. On the walls are historic information about the post office and Toronto. At the back is a map showing what Toronto looked like in the past. This was very interesting to see how much the city landscape has changed. Overall, this was a good visit.

i have passed by an seen this post office may times as an gbc student and ever really venture inside. The building itself isnt anything fancy but it is still standing from 1830's and it was deemed an hertiage sitr back in the 80's. this double as both an museum and full postal service. it has had some modern touches in sense of how mail is process now vs then but it look like building seem to be in tact. it has some interesting artifact like letters and coins from 1800 and even an ink and quill station to see if you can write but i didny try. there was one more room i wanted to expore but an tour came in so i left. another time i will fully expore this place

Hidden next to the George Brown College culinary center I passed by this building several times never realizing it represents part of Toronto's history. With the renovations underway its hard to spot it unless one specifically looks for it. Ah well never mind the old style entrance leads to a working post office where one can view the old style tools items that were used way back. There is a self guided tour as well with a nominal suggested donation. The tour is short and would last 5-10 min max. There are some good takeaways though like post cards and sealed letter. One can even write with an authentic quill if one is inclined. I don't know how to rate this place as there is little to see here unless you are really into postal history. 2.5 stars.

get rid of the voicemail and start answering the phone again during business hours. it's not too much to ask. answering the phone appears to be a rarity here now.

Super friendly service. I recently rented a post office box and the person with whom I spoke was very helpful and told me about services, to which I was entitled, that I didn't even know about. Yay! Great atmosphere. I love the smell of this old historic building.

Really love this little place, usually a visit to the post office is an experience I dread as it's usually a test of patience with unhappy surely service folks. This location however is great, they have everything, always somebody available to help and I can get done what I need to get done quickly.
