When we arrived, the hotel's manager met us and said that there is an issue with our booking. We booked a family room with 1 double and 2 single beds, but apparently we paid only for 2 adults and we were told that we have to pay another about GTQ 900 for our 2 children ( for 2 nights). The manager told us, that they charge per person, not per room, and only children under 1 are free. We did not expect this. We booked this hotel 3 months in advance and we could not understand why they have not told us about this before. The manager told us that when you book on Booking.com , you have to put the kid's age. But we booked directly on hotel's website, and it did not ask us the age of the kids when we booked. My husband showed how he booked. After 10 minutes discussion, the manager agreed not to charge the additional price for the room, but we we were told that we have to pay for kids' breakfast. We agreed to this compromise and I am glad that we resolved this, but please make the booking system more clear. After this the rest was perfect. Very nice location, very safe and calm, we did a boat trip, swam in a lake and had great time. The manager was very helpful and gave us lots of useful advices. The food was absolutely fantastic- breakfasts and dinners. The best food we ate during our 2 weeks trip in Guatemala. Thank you, we enjoyed our stay!

The facility was basic but had everything that you need. The staff did everything they could to ensure your needs and wants were met. There is also a lovely walk to town through a boardwalk over a small stream and then a beautiful farm. The food was quite good.

Myself and my husband Gary had the best time here!! The location is just so relaxed and beautiful, we spent our days swimming off the deck and relaxing in our hammock. We stayed in the cottage and it was pure magic! The little hammock and deck area allowed for a proper chill out space. Angela and Leo- such lovely people, they couldn’t of made our stay any better. Angela is such a lady and was always on hand with any questions we had. We would go back here in a heartbeat 💗

Lovely hotel. Little bit isolated but food and rooms really good.

Double charged me, admitted their mistake, convinced me not to dispute the charge, told me everything was in hand and that I would be refunded. One year of emails back and forth, checking my online banking and they then just stop replying to me and never refund me.

Fantastic place to stay to start a trip in the Rio Dulce/Livingston! Top notch staff- they couldn’t be more helpful, just a really lovely environment to be. We ended up staying longer because it was such a beautiful, thoughtful place to be. At the time, Angela was there and she really is such an addition to their team. Great, clean rooms, really special massive porch all along the water. Coffee ready early in the morning which is amazing for early risers like us! Easy access from the entrance of Rio Dulce- they will pick you up at no extra charge from where you leave your car and it’s a 2 minute boat ride over. Lovely pets as well.

Everything at Tortugal was exceptional from the time of booking to prearrival to arrival. From the time you are picked up at the boat dock in Rio Dolce and brought to Tortugal, you are treated like family and welcomed with open arms. It was such a needed experience after our horrible experience at the Tikal Jungle Lodge. Tortugal is a little slice of paradise with breathtaking views, healing energy, laughter surrounding the place, walking paths throughout, and phenomenal food. If you want to do day trips (highly recommend the Livingston trip), everything can be organized for you, as well as your shuttle to your next destination (we went onto Antigua afterward). Angela and Leo are super stars. I'm grateful for the love and wisdom Angela shared- thank you Angela, Leo, and Tortugal for an amazing few days.

I had a great time at Tortugal! I was picked up from the dock at the same time as the groceries! My room was cosy and charming. The bed was comfy, the water was hot and I had a ‘side sea view’ of the river. ||The best things about the hotel were: the inimitable Angela - an infinite source of knowledge and dry humour; the amazing food; the salty sea dogs (who congregated at the bar at dusk to regale people with yachting stories over the Cuba libres) and two actual dogs (who seemed to have as much fun as the guests!) A great choice for a stay in Rio Dulce!
